Fernando Torres

This could be Oscar we are talking about

Haha. They had pretty similar season in a way, actually. Started strong, got inconsistent over winter and finished on a low. The differences are Torres' wages and the fact that Oscar is still very young and a work in progress.

Let's see..

£50,000,000 fee

£175,000 wages

He has been here for three years and twenty-four weeks. Or 182 weeks altogether (give or take a few days).

182 * £175,000 = £31, 850, 000

£31,850,000 + £50,000,000 = £81,850,000

If all the shirts are bought at full price at the Chelsea megastore, short sleeve with no badges, they'd cost as of right now: £60.85

£81,850,000 / £60.85 = 1,345,110.93

Do you think 1.3 million Torres shirts have been sold?

It's much worse than that if we think about it further.

Deduct manufacturing costs, Adidas' share of the profits, taxes and whatever additional costs there may be and the club are lucky to get even £20 per shirt so the total amount would need to be significantly higher than 1.3 million. Also, people who buy the shirts are mostly fans of the club who would buy one with someone else's name on the back if Torres wasn't around so in reality the amount of money Torres has earned the club through merchandise sales matters fuck all if the costs are £80m+.

In another news, I just read on AS that Simeone has green-lit a bid for Torres. As they say, it's the hope that kills you. :(

Yay, let's keep paying £18.5m annually for Torres because he's got a shitload of facebook likes.

This is just sad if he's the fourth most marketable player in the world.

As much as I hate this poor excuse for footballer it seems he is quite marketable and probably has made he transfer fee and wages more tolerable. I guess this is the only positive..

You do know that most of the revenue from shirt sales goes straight to Adidas right? We only get a quite small percentage of the actual profit. So his marketability is nothing huge.

I think people are exaggerating what an atrocity it would be if he stayed. Take his wages out of the equation and he's not a bad squad player. Yes, he can be terrible at times, but he can also excellent when he's up for it and against certain teams. If Lukaku is leaving, I'd honestly wouldn't mind Torres staying because he can offer something different to Costa (and Didier?).

FFP rules include wages, so having Torres as a squad player makes us a weaker team.

Atletico Madrid are locked in a transfer battle with ASMonaco to sign Chelsea striker Fernando Torres

Monaco are now serious contenders for Torres as they look to replace James Rodriguez. Falcao could soon join him at Real.

Atletico will not give up on Torres after missing out on Negredo, but will face serious competition from mega-rich Monaco. (Mirror)

SOMEBODY, JUST KIDNAP HIM
