DYC. 7,542
I have to add this, I know it's a little petty...Torres scores a brace against Lichtenstein, he bullies the weak teams. Negredo scores a brace against Lichtenstein and he's in the form of his life and unquestionably the best CF for Spain. Not true. Negredo has scored 12 goals in the last ten league matches he has played (add 5 goals in 7 matches in the NT to that), that's why 'he's in the form of his life'. Perhaps I shouldn't have used "form" but reading the Marca comments, many of them were about how great Negredo for scoring 2 against Lichtenstein whereas Torres did the same thing in their 1st qualifying game and there was nary a peep about how great that was. And that while recovering from his World Cup injury. But after that game, it was mostly, ah he only scores against the minnows.Anyhow, it was a petty gripe more to do with fickle Spanish fans. dodojojo 510
http://www.sportyou.es/blog/futbol/2011/09/07/la-encrucijada-de-torres-2-362970.htmlLet's look at the numbers behind all the punditry, the moaning, griping and hyperbole. You would think Torres is the worst striker ever for Spain and has failed over and over again for Del Bosque and thus he needs to dropped. Or maybe is it something more mundane, like he's been okay, could do better, could use more minutes to show it and a few more starts would be nice. Right now, Negredo is doing well and starting. That's great for him, deserved. But does Torres need the whole of Spain (and elsewhere) to shit on him from great heights? Meh.Check out the minutes to goal ratios. Torres has started ...wait for it, wait for it...TWO games for Spain since the World Cup. Two--one he scores a brace and the other he leaves early with a concussion. The longest he's been on the pitch is 57 minutes. Two starts, the rest are sub appearances. Again, meh.Nothing there tells me Torres has been horrid for Spain. If Del Bosque feels he can do better than Torres, that's fair. He's the boss and he can start whoever he wants. I just wish the gross exaggeration of Torres effectiveness would abate. He's having a horrible time at the club level of course but his national team numbers aren't anything that deserve public humiliation. I'd be happy with a striker who scores every 98 minutes on the pitch.Meh, a mountain out of a molehill. Unfortunately Torres has to put up with the press and certain fans blowing it all out of proportion. ZanSnake 1,211
The football Journos are like dung beetles choosing the largest piece of shit over the other, and then having the right to gossip about the less 'significant' pieces of shit on a piece of shit paper, or on a webshite. TacticalBlues 2,817
http://www.skysports...7159945,00.htmlWill that help him or will the extra pressure just cause him to play worse? Who knows but one thing is certain its not going to improve his confidence...
termninja 5,290
^Well...both. He'll want to prove himself, but the pressure on him is still immense.I hope he gets a full 90min in a team with Mata. If can't score then, I guess he really is a flop. Big fan of the old El Nino - but if he dont perform now and looses his place at spainsnationale, well then i think he is finished her at Chelsea. Not to say one day he could make a comback somewhere else. Its now or never peoples patience isrunning out, include many fans!.
Ollie 4,400
Bit of a cunt leaving him out against Leichtenstein, if ever there was a national game to get some confidence ffs. If he played the whole game for example, he woulda scored at least one! Quite annoying. Maybe he'll score 5 in the next 2 for us and ruin Scotland
lionsden 4,689
He is not on the bench against liechtenstein! They left him out!And quite rightly so. That's a manager with some balls who bases his team selection on form and merit rather than reputation and sentiment. Waterfall
zolayes 14,489
sorting out our striker problem could be AVB's biggest problem. He has almost too many options Torres ,Drogba ,Anelka ,Sturridge,,,Also so little time left as the season starts properly this weekend. Nothing is won by the end of September but a good start is essentialespecially for Torres .
lionsden 4,689
It use to be the same thing with Berbatov. So this is not new.Exactly. Contrary to the popular believe that the media are out to get us.Moreover, the pressure and the threat of losing his NT spot permanently should be motivate him to buckle up and start performing. . . .sulking, failing to score and feeling sorry for himself will only prolong the pressure and problem. It's time to step your game up Torres.P.S. Perhaps he could get lucky and score some tap ins ala Inzaghi, chicharito, if he just stays inside the fucking opponents box. He needs goals badly now and his best chance of getting a goal will come only through staying more inside the box and not wandering around the pitch like headless chicken.
