Wobbly lip Ferdinand makes racist remarks on Twitter

Rio calling Ashley a "choc ice" is offensive on a race level. But not in the same way that a white man hurling the "n-word" at a black man is. "Choc ice" isn't a racist term per se. The sting lies in the fact that he's calling Ashley's racial identity in to question, purely because he took the side of a white man because he believed it to be the right thing to do. The notion that black people and white people should stick together and look after their own (just for the sake of it and not because it's right) is throw back to segregation and not something anybody should aspire to.

Rio Ferdinand isn't a hero of mine, and quite clearly the man is a bit thick. But that's all he's guilty of.

I can understand why people want him to get in hot water over this. Of course it would be quite ironic (read: hilarious) if after all the stuff he spouted about JT over Twitter throughout this debacle that he, of all people, should end up in a damning race row. But for us to actually want that, that would just make us as bad as all the fans who so often jump on the anti-JT bandwagon, and in this scenario, condemn him of racism, not because it's true or can be proven, but just because they don't like him.

So that said, Ashley's representatives have made a statement saying it's nothing and to move on. That's exactly what the fans should do. In reality it doesn't concern us. It has been handled between the parties in question, so let's leave it at that. Dragging it out and witch hunting would only make us as bad as the anti-JT brigade who so vehemently insist in going after our player. Let's try and stay above that.

P.S. I don't like the man, but is wobbly lip appropriate? I'm not trying to find racism where it's not, but wobbly lip comes very close to the idea of black folks having big lips. Probably don't want to make things look any worse than they already are.

This is just getting pathetic now.Cant blame Ashley for being a witness seeing as he was there!Did what was required of him!Having a go and making snide remarks is pathetic and really its done over.May not been the verdict people/Rio wanted but meh move on!

The comment racist or not...doesnt change the fact it was made and he commented on it...Should've just kept quiet really and now all eyes on him at the moment..not exactly what he had in mind Im sure...woopsies! And one minute 'oh it was a sarcastic' reply the next 'its slang'....hmmm

Wobbly lip is very appropriate as he does have a wobbly top lip. Nothing to do with his colour in the slightest.

He talks like he's had a stroke and for the record I also recall him being called Daffy Duck due his speach. It's just one of those things people pick up on about a persons feature(s). If you remember "Spitting Image", stars regularly got the piss ripped out of them due to their features, speach impediments, etc....Ferdinand would certainly have his lip movement exaggerated to the extreme.

Wobbly lip was his nickname in the Leeds dressing room, given to him not by me but his fellow team mates.

Wouldn't this remark be insulting and somewhat racist because it's implying that Ashley "betrayed" his own race by sucking up to a white man per se? Anyway, I'm incredulous that Ferdinand, even though he's a completely jackass and all, would dare to say such a thing. On the other hand, good on Ashley for sorting it out like any sensible grownup would.

I cant take any pleasure from this -its big brother setting the precedent for 'mind your language' A dangerous road to go down.

To be honest a quiet word with Terry and the Ferdinand clowns being told to ''grow the fuck up'' would have sufficed -rather than waste hundreds of thousands of tax payers money
