Luke Shaw

Not likely this window.

We could always use Kalas as right back and shift Azpi to LB if Cole get injured now.

Would Jose really throw a kid like Kalas who hasn't played a minute for us this season in the deep end in competitions like the CL or a close title race?

I'd take that gamble when our other option in such a predicament is Essien.

I'm a big fan of Shaw but with their internal issues, we could get him for a cheap price in the summer.

Feels like everything is kind of falling into place for this to happen, i'm a little confused about letting Bertrand go, unless as 'The only place to be' mentioned..

They don't want Bertrand, it'll be straight cash for Shaw (hopefully in this window) and we're looking to increase Bertrand's value before selling him in the summer.

This makes a lot of sense to me, who's going to pay a decent price for a LB who's played a couple of hours over the whole season, or there could be another motive, he could just be out on loan so Jose can see how he is in action. But in all honesty i think if Jose had any intention of bringing Bertie into the first team we'd have seen him lining up for Cole instead of Azpi (which Bertie has got to take as a bit of an insult, considering he's playing someone out of position as opposed to a natural left sided player).

My opinion is that Mourhinio has told Betrand he won't be here next season, so go and put yourself in the shop window at Villa, why won't be here next season? Because we're going to be tabling offers for Luke Shaw from now to the summer i'll bet, so even if it isn't during this window i think the club must be confident of landing him to a degree

Or i could be completely wrong, but i'm not, nope, never

Ever.

That makes a lot of sense but still I'd rather the Shaw deal over and done with so I know we've got him. I don't like the idea of him playing somewhere else.

I'm pretty sure there's no way Mourinho will leave left back open to disaster with one injury

Hasn't he said Azpi will be his backup LB in todays presser? [didn't watch it but read something on twitter] or have I just read someone say that as their opinion and i have mistaken it for Jose saying it

One thing I dont get is that if Azpi and Cole were injured who would then play at LB.

Starsport revealed yesterday how Chelsea have already had a deal worth £21m turned down for Saints’ exciting young left-back.

But the crisis-hit Premier League outfit have made it clear they want a world record fee (30 MIL) for a full-back, who is seen as the eventual long-term England successor to Chelsea star Ashley Cole.

To be honest i may have just read someone say that azpi would be backup there as opinion. the shaw rumours will intense now i expect. Your point is valid too. I do not see us recalling PVA

Azpi would be a backup option if no one is bought in however I just feel we would be extremly thin in that position if that were the case for the rest of the season.

Yeh. Even if Cole were to get injured we are still left with one left back who is primarily a RB. And If ivanovic then got injured, we'd be fucked. Normally id say essien would fill RB but he seems on his way out

Rami's played as a RB a couple of times i think? On our way to winning the champions league due to suspensions if i remember rightly? (Which i might not) I can't see José leaving us short in an area he knows we're a bit light so he must have something up his sleeve? Is it £20-25m for Luke Shaw this window?.. I hope so

Southampton chairman Katharina Liebherr has issued a clear, albeit brief, statement.

She said: 'The club has no plans to sell any of the squad during the January transfer window. The manager and the team have my full support.' - (Daily mail)

So, no Shaw this window...

Ramires only played at RB once for us which was against Barcelona at the Nou Camp and even then, it was an enforced move with Terry sent off and Cahill went off injured.
