JEFFREY BRUMA FILLS IN FOR RICARDO CARVALHO AT CHELSEA

http://www.dailystar...lho-at-Chelsea/

But despite the departure of Carvalho, the Italian was last night adamant that he would not look to buy another top-class centre-half and ruled out a move for Benfica star David Luiz.

Instead, Ancelotti says fledgling Holland defender Jeffrey Bruma will fill Carvalho’s shoes.

He revealed: “Everyone was disappointed about Carvalho leaving because he had six very good years with this club and did a fantastic job last year.

“But his desire was to leave this club, to try a new emotion and new experience.

“And we have in our academy a fantastic centre-back (Bruma) and we want to give him more possibility to play.

“I didn’t try to persuade Riccy to stay because that was a decision that he took at the end of the last year.

“The last game of the last year, he said to me that he would like to leave this club and for this reason, he went to Real Madrid.

“Am I after David Luiz? No. We have Terry, Ivanovic, Alex and Bruma, so we are OK. And I won’t go into the market for a central defender.”

Great news !!

Chelsea consider £25m David Luiz bid to plug defensive gap

Chelsea were plunged into a defensive crisis last night as Brazilian centre-half Alex was ruled out until the New Year.

Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti was already facing the loss of skipper John Terry for an indefinite period when the worst fears of the Stamford Bridge camp over the South American were concerned.

Alex, who has missed the last two games, will undergo keyhole surgery on his problem right knee this week and will be out for six to eight weeks.

The news was a devastating blow and with Terry's return uncertain, it leaves Ancelotti with just Serbian Branislav Ivanovic - who is just one booking away from a domestic suspension - as a fit and trusted central defensive option.

Ancelotti will have to choose between Dutch rookie Jeffrey Bruma or Paulo Ferreira, hapless in the shock defeat by Sunderland, for Saturday's trip to St Andrews, where Birmingham will unleash the height, pace and power of giant Nikola Zigic and Cameron Jerome.

With huge doubts over the state of Terry's back, illustrated as England boss Fabio Capello revealed he has only been playing with the aid of injections all season,

Chelsea are now seriously eyeing a January swoop for Benfica's £25million-rated David Luiz.
