One of my master degrees is in international relations/political science, I can go on for weeks about the post WWII string of US/UK/NATO started or supported coups d'etat and murder-wars.

But let's not go there, I am burnt out on all that atm, tbh.:(

would be happy to discuss it later on in the new year

It's a mixed bag.
They actually did support some junta governments when there was no communist danger to justify it.
But those who were responsible for that are exactly the same ones who support brexit now.

We all know as @Atomiswave and @Vesper have also said that Trump, Johnson, and other World leaders are scoundrels.

Interestingly their status is actually reinforced by their unpopularity. It is a psychological trait that when they say something offensive, or crassly stupid, the people offended get a dopamine hit from being outraged and pointing out their idiocy either verbally or social media. Thus the cycle continues.

Guess what I am saying that the macro-ecomomic/political situation is generally beyond our control - apart from being allowed to put a cross on a bit of paper every four years.

The old anarchist slogan 'if voting changed anything, they'd ban it' rings true every time. There is another slogan from the old Anarcho/Socialist tradition ' Look after your own garden' -ie work in your local area politically. Be it helping people, co ops, raising awareness of local issues. This is really empowering, rather than moaning about Trumps latest tweet and if everyone did this would make a REAL difference.

Right I'll get off my soap box now -peace brothers and sisters. :cig:

Brexit warning: Farage tells Boris not to fall into EU trap - ‘Barnier won’t give an INCH’

NIGEL Farage has hailed Boris Johnson’s “fantastic” move to rule out any possibility of further delay after 2020 - while warning not to get stuck in, what he called, the EU’s “trade talks trap”.

2. 85% of the media here is owned by right wing billionaire tax avoiders that donate to the tory party. They have run an endless smear campaign with 15-20 anti- Corbyn stories every day for the last three months.

I read that some areas that voted labour for decades have voted conservative. I think media has always been controlled mostly by right wing billionaires so my question is why were they influenced by the media this time or was it something else?

I am talking specifically about those areas which have traditionally voted labour and changed this time.

Yes, Norway and Denmark look on with horror at what happened in Sweden

over 1.5m refugees since 1999

that is like the USA taking in the population-adjusted equivalent of 50 million

it is causing socio-economic, socio-cultural chaos

I don't know much about Swedish politics. Who is responsible for taking 1.5 million refugees, is it left wing or right wing party or both? I thought Scandinavians had some foresight, it is great to help people in need but this is crazy.

all parties, except the far right wing Sweden Democrats

that across-the-board consensus is what led to the rise of SD

some of the parties have backed off a bit starting in 2016 (the centre-right Moderates and the centre-left Social Democrats (to a lesser extent) simply to try and block SD

but if the true 2 nightmares occur (war declared on Iran and then Turkey going full blown caliphate attempt and warring with Syria plus a true mass extermination attempt of the Kurds the 2 combined actions which will cause the inflow of millions of refugees into the EU) then I expect all the parties but SD to fold again

if those 2 war events happen in 2021 (and Trump getting reelected or even worse, declaring a state of National emergency and cancelling the election VASTLY increases those likelihoods), and we take in 500,000, even 1 million more refugees

SD will surge to 40% or more in the 2022 elections and force a party to govern with them as a minority partner (the Moderates are already talking about cutting a deal now, the first time ANY party in the Riksdag has said this)

it is all one giant clusterfuck that is going to impact the nation for the next 100 years and beyond

Sweden is already on demographic track to become majority muslim by around 2090 to 2110 (and that is based off calculations before the UK is removed as option for immigration internally within the EU)

a million more over the next 5 to 10 years would kick that time frame up by 40 or so years, so easily within my lifetime

all this also does not take into account the truly massive immigration into the advanced world as climate change causes hundreds of millions to relocate globally (obviously not all of them just coming to the EU)

Brexit was the main factor. It was incredible - Northern areas like County Durham, Rotherham, Sedgefeld traditional Labour areas for decades, decimated by Thatchers mine closing, and wrecked for the last 10 years with tory austerity wanted Brexit and the fat blonde Etonian is promising them it. The media did a real hatchet job on Corbyn, highlighting his dithering over Brexit. Something that a lot of voters in run down deprived areas think will be beautiful sunlit uplands bedecked in golden unicorns.

Also social media -eg Theres a facebook group Football Lads Alliance mainly right wing that had pictures of Corbyn with Gerry Adams etc apparently resulting in 30 000 voting for Johnson, Tommy Robinson has joined the tory party....

So understand you guys going to the polls again in a couple of months - is it the end of Netanyahu ? This Gantz character, don't know anything about him but seems to be gathering more and more support.

I hope so. Gantz is centrist, talks a lot about education, infrastructure and corruption. I don't think much will change in the middle east.
