Ollie 4,400
What a fucking night. Perfect, just perfect. Nothing coulda made me more happy than what happened tonight. Not just with us, but with all the games combined. Arsenal are now in a bit of shit after being the best team destined for the quadruple yesterday... Napoli winning has put them under pressure and Steaua equalising has given us a bit of breathing space. Rmpr
didierforever 7,349
arsenal groupafter round 3arsenal - 6 pointsnapoli - 6 pointsbvb - 6 pointsafter round 4 (expectations)arsenal - 6 pointsbvb - 9 pointsnapoli - 9 pointsafter round 5 (expectations)arsenal - 9 pointsbvb - 12 pointsnapoli - 9 pointsso in the end according to me, it would all come down to the napoli-arsenal fixture. napoli will have to win it as a draw would send arsenal to 2nd on head to head. the best thing would be napoli is able to get a point off bvb (away) in round 5 (improbable) or arsenal drop points to marseille at emirates (can happen after seeing arsenal's fixturespalace (away) - PLchelsea (home) - COCliverpool (home) - PLdortmund (away) - CLunited (away) - PLsouthampton (home) - PLmarseille (home) - CL.really tough fixtures and as we all know, once they start fucking over, arsenal dont stop. lets all hope for the best and hope that arsenal fuck up big time!!! different level 1,056
Just had a look at Arsenal's group again and was thinking of the following scenario. Knowing that head to head games is the primary tiebreaker when two teams finish with equal points, then what's the procedure if:1. Dortmund, Napoli and Arsenal finish equal on points2. Dortmund have better head to head record against Arsenal3. Napoli have better head to head record against Dortmund4. Arsenal have better head to head record against NapoliIf that happens then head to head games are ignored and the criteria is the teams' goal difference in all the matches, right? Otherwise it will go down to away goals or whatever (like it happened to us and Shakthar last year). For instance: BVB beat Arsenal 2-0, Napoli beat BVB 2-0 and Arsenal beat Napoli 2-0. Then it will go to goals difference or whatever. But that cant happen anymore....

Then it will go to goals difference or whatever. But that cant happen anymore....It was different with us and Shakhtar. We had the same number of points but they had better head to head record (by conceiding less goals in the home fixture). However in that case there were only two teams in question. In the possibility that I suggested we have 3 teams with the same number of points with their head to head records cancelling each other out.Actually, there is a similar situation in the standings in that group right now. Arsenal 3 2 0 1 5 3 +2 6 Borussia Dortmund 3 2 0 1 6 3 +3 6 Napoli 3 2 0 1 4 4 0 6 Marseille 3 0 0 3 2 7 −5 0Considering we are looking the head to head games: Arsenal beat Napoli but lost to Dortmund, while Dortmund on the other hand lost to Napoli and all the teams are tied in points. So why are Arsenal first? The head to head tiebreaker is not working under these conditions and Dortmund have better goal difference. If 3 teams are on the same number of points in the group stage, then the rules to determine their position becomes different. If in the group stage of the Champions League two or more teams finish equal on points after all the group matches have been played, the following criteria are applied to determine the group rankings:1. Higher number of points obtained in the matches between the teams in question2. Superior goal difference from the matches between the teams in question3. Higher number of goals scored away from home in the matches between the teams in question4. Superior goal difference from all group matches played5. Higher number of goals scored6. Coefficient points accumulated by the club in question, as well as its association, over the previous five seasonsSource: http://uefa-champions-league010.page.tl/How-we-play-it-.htmWhat this means then is a mini-league will be created involving those teams. So in this case and going by the first rule there, Arsenal, Dortmund and Napoli have all beaten and lost to one another.ArsenalW - Napoli 2-0L - Dortmund 1-2DortmundL - Napoli 1-2W - Arsenal 2-1NapoliW - Dortmund 2-1L - Arsenal 0-2Each of them have 3 points in this mini league and because of this, we then go to the second rule and look at the GD of the teams in matches between them. Arsenal have a GD 1, Dortmund GD 0 and Napoli GD -1.Hence, this is why Arsenal are still top of their group, Dortmund in second despite having better GD and Napoli in third. Anyway It's highly unlikely to have the need to apply those rules in the end.

The more games they play, the betterIf they finish third in their group they're going to the EL, so that also wouldn't make their schedule less busy.
