The Roberto Di Matteo Thread

It's important to be a little more objective here when we criticise RDM. It's not enough to say he couldn't stem Liverpool's second half tide without suggesting what he could have done about it. We must not forget that regardless of the names that populate the squad sheet, this is a limited team that has overachieved in many respects.

I find it ironic that some people are saying they are not sure if RDM is the man for a transition at the club.

Since when has any managers has been good for transition at this club????

When you got the board doing almost all the transfer dealing.

So I think people should get that nonsense out of their heads.

What boils down to this club is weather the manager can bring out the best with that which he is giving.

And this Chelsea is the worst team in the Roman era. THE WORST!!!!!!!!

And yet we are in the CL final and won a FA Cup.

I say that's much better then any past managers in a long time.

He's doing wonders with a pretty crap squad that he couldn't change. Imagine what he could do when he can build the team he wants.

We all know there are ageing players and we have Malouda, Kalou, Bosingwa and Meireles. He's actually managed to use them and still keep winning. I think he's done a remarkable job. Don't agree with most of his substitutions or line ups but it's worked so can't diss.

what makes u think RDM will do great in long FULL TRANSITION SEASON?? put in someone who has greater experience and its less of a risk is it not??

What makes you think capello will win anything?

We tried with avb, ancelotti, ranieri,...no one brought us cl!

its time to change thinking and give rdm a job. he at least fully respects chelsea, players and knows philosophy!

and if he makes mistake or two, well he is young and could become our saf.

legend!

It's not just about the identification and signing of players. The manager has to change set-ups, tactics etc with these new arrivals and also his man-management style has to adapt. Im not saying he cannot do it. Just that it's a question mark.

under rdm, i have felling we dont realy need that much rebuild of team. the current players are doing well, im sure we would be top 3 if rdm was in charge whole season. we won fa and possibly cl, that makes clear rdm maybe needs one or two wingers, some cm and rb. nothing else.

if we go afer another manager, the newbie will have no clue how to use torres, drigba, lamps, cole, mikel,...and we will need 10 new players to come. it is obvious to keep rdm, because he made us a goood team, with no new players!

i dont see any other mnager to bring us that far with this team.

No.

Lampard, Terry, Cole, Drogba, Malouda, Essien, Ferreira etc are all either over 30 or in the case of Essien, past it.

Add to that players who aren't good enough like Kalou and Bosingwa. There NEEDS to be some form of rebuilding. Not just this summer but over the next 2 years.

You're crazy if you think that just by winning possibly two trophies, nothing has to change. This is the same stupid brainless mentality that stopped the real transition from happening after Moscow in 08 or even after the double in 2010.

The thing is, it's not like he's going to 'rebuild' our squad on his own, the Chelsea board also help him.

Also he must have spoken with AVB about changes next year (when AVB was in charge), he may have some of the same ideas.

Well with everything you said there at the end, RDM is not of a top caliber like Mourinho, Guardiola or Bielsa.

But he can do an adequate job like Juventus coach.

I guess sometimes for the players and fans a top dog is not require. Just someone who is a little competent.

Cause Kenny for Liverpool is a big figure, but this whole time his tactical skills has been sub par to that of RDM, or even to that mediocre Mancini!

Also, it's naive to think that we would be doing fantastic in the league if Roberto had been the manager all season. Sure, we would have done better than the AVB period, but let's not forget these players are only performing at such a high level because of the magnitude of the occasions.

Yeah I agree. I think he can do an okay job. I think he should be given a one year contract.

But giving that I just mention Guardiola, he was also a nothing when he came to Barcelona and turn out to be great.

RDM is showing that he might fall under that same category.

Which is why I don't think we should cast him aside that easily.

Besides this dumb ass board of ours has taken big gamble in the past couple of seasons, and has had to pay big amount of compensation for it.

Surely such a small little gamble is not a big problem?

And as I said many times, if RDM turns out to be as mediocre as Mancini, then we will at least have a better squad!
