Gary Cahill

Hes been out of the team for maybe 2 or 3 games and people think that's him as good as done at Chelsea? Wake up, Zouma is a young guy who will eventually make mistakes because hes playing for a top top team as a center back. He might get a run in the team but there's no doubt Cahill-Terry are gonna be Jose's first choice and most used combination this season at center back.

If Cahill - Terry is Jose's first choice CB combination after this season, all Chelsea fans should be worried...

Doesn't look like it to me on evidence. Is this another myth and generalisation that young automatically equals tactically naive and inferior. Hasn't that myth been busted already. He has looked just tactically fine to me in the games he has played for us while on the flip side Cahill, a player that has been awful to average at best this season is being played completely out of position.

Never said Ake hasn't done well for us because he has. But you can't deny that he's still learning. The main point, however, is that I was only trying to explain why Mourinho brought on Cahill rather than Ake to nullify Lampard. Wasn't talking about the overall ability of either Ake or Cahill.

Wasn't that last season where he was easily one of the best CBs and most improved players in the PL. Sure hes not great but when we rolled our sleeves up, sat off and made it hard to break us down, he was more than reliable when needed, big games against City x2, Liverpool, PSG, Arsenal last season come to mind in particular as well as various other appearances in his Chelsea career. I've said it before hes nowhere near world class but you can't say when he was called upon in the big games for Chelsea and he didn't deliver, you'd be lying. Everyone goes through a tough spell, nothing is easy for any footballer every week. People who were saying he isn't good enough this year were saying last season he was easily one of the most improved players in the PL. Just wait for the week Zouma makes a mistake and everyone will be giving him the same treatment as Cahill.

If I have to criticized something about Cahill. It's his concentration sometimes looks off in a game, particularly when our midfield suddenly loss the ball, and our opponent did a fast counter.

Other than that, I think he is okay. But having say that, I thought Zouma doing really fine at the moment and deserved to start our next match.

I'm not denying that Cahill did well last season..but that was more to do with the way Mourinho set up the team..

When we sit back, Cahill generally performs well..but when he is asked to play with a bit more risk/higher defensive line, he seems less secure and panicked as a defender.

I'm just trying to say that Zouma has alot to learn and Cahill may not be the right player to use in a higher defensive line...signing a quality CB for next season wouldn't be a bad option for Chelsea...

Cahill was only a starter last season and we did not do so good parking the bus in a number of games.

Defense was weak and demanded a lot of protection to work - as soon as the team tired a bit we resumed conceding. Go back to the results once again and you will see it. Pathetic results even after luiz lost his starting position, then some solidity, and then conceding a lot at the end of the season costing us the title.

The notion that cahill was always a sure starter and is going through a tough spell is delusional. Reckon you are really referring to Terry instead.

But then again one must be delusional to think cahill is a great player or a sure starter. Same folks who think the kid who just got a new 5 year deal is getting the boot.

I personally don't see him getting back into the starting XI anytime soon, and rightly so.

He had been underperforming for a considerable amount of time, and Zouma has taken the chance with both hands (I know it's still early days).

Cahill is still a good defender. He has the occasional backing off against players running at him but he's good enough in other aspects.

The problem is with our system of play, we can't play with two slow centerbacks and expect to be solid defensively. There will always be problems when both centerbacks are slow. The faster one goes into more challenges because he can recover if he misstimes a tackle while the slower CB stays back. But when both are slow, one ball over the top and clear chances created unless they are defending deep.

Having trusted Zouma for 120 minutes against Liverpool and then a few days later against Citeh I'll be shocked if Jose drops him now.

Yes, defence is the line Mourinho is least likely to rotate in two consecutive BIG matches. Nearly impossible unless there are fitness concerns. The players who play in these games, are his best and most trusted ones - in one word starters. That's why I would be surprised if Cahill somehow appeared ahead of Zouma again.

dafuq, he actually put in a good performance.

He knows he has to after Zouma's performances against two very good teams.

Handled game very well, but nobody from you say something, because you are just waiting for his mistake....its all same in Oscar thread. Idiotic and childish

Are you his mum or something?
