As I posted, no matter whether we like it, disagree with the sale, the deal if it goes through is a lot of money to reject for a player who sits around.

You're talking as if selling players is the only way to balance the books. Wrong, big money is made behind the scenes with sponsorship deals, merchandise (mind you, in that Mata plays a big role with his well known name) and so on. Chelsea aren't a selling club and never will be. The argument of us selling in order to balance the book so we could buy a striker or any other player is just wrong. Might add up to clubs like Atletico and Porto but not us.

He might sit around now, true. But what if Oscar / Hazard / Willian get injured? What then, Schürrle can't replace them all and I rate Mata alot higher than Schürrle.

As much as this makes sense - what says we don't have that kind of money laying around at the moment anyway? I guess the main point is if we should sell during the January transfer window and give them a better chance at getting a TOP4 finish - strengthening a direct league rival, hindering our own chances of doing business in the summer- or wait out till the summer and see if there is a plan for him or not. As egoistic and blunt as this sounds, club comes first and Mata's world cup hopes shouldn't be a factor here.

Edit: From the total of 54 you should subtract Matic's price and see how much is left. There's noone to get for that kind of money with the quality we should be looking for.

If he goes, alongside KDB, that leaves us 4 players for 3 positions. It will reinvigorate our rivals, we don't need the money and I don't see how he fits at all, he won't play no10 at all there and he is much worse on the wing as has been proven here under numerous managers. He's even less suited to playing on the wings in the 442 they play.

Add the fact he's one of our best players, good attitude, very popular and successful here; I'd hope Mourinho would be smart enough not to sell him to another PL team
