Another interesting thing is that as far as a month back (or at least weeks back), Lukaku was saying that he knows where he's going... and that was before the MU bid. Maybe he really did have his mind set on Chelsea from the beginning?

That's what I think the club is gambling on. Not matching agent bid pretty much tells us that. We are trying to lure Lukaku to Chelsea for what he feels for the club.

Am I the only one who thinks Arsenal got the better striker in Lacazette?

Older than Rom but also better IMO.

Not PL proven. Lukaku is PL proven, so he is still better. According to some in here.

If the club wants him I'm glad we're not letting him go without a fight, but I'm also glad we're standing up to the agent. £10-12m from a transfer is a joke. We would have essentially sold a potentially very good player in Traore just to pay an agent, screw that.

The club have actually played this well in my opinion because reportedly we've offered Everton the same money and Lukaku the same money. Lukaku either shows he wants to play and make it at the club that he supported since a boy and potentially become a legend at the club or he goes where his agent can fleece the most money.

If he does decide on Chelsea that to me shows someone strong willed, motivated and knows what he wants - I'd be happy buying a striker of that mentality.

Hope if he does sign, Conte announces he really wanted him and Dan Levene gets proven to be full of shit again.

I would have been quite happy if the club had come out publicly and said that it had no interesting in Lukaku, esp at this price.

Now, it is getting embarrassing... I personally believe the player will always follow his agent, so I think it is a lost cause anyway.

I don't like Lukaku too much as a footballer, but this whole ordeal will have negative repercussions to the club esp in this transfer window. And I am not even talking about the fact Lukaku was sold for a fraction of that to Everton, who are the only ones laughing right now (all the way to the bank).

But then again, aside from a couple very specific signings, this club has not been very competitive in the transfer market for many years now. We might as well get used to it.

Our board has seen sense at the last moment. Insane to let a player with his level of goalscoring potential join Mourinho and we just sit back and do nothing. Lukaku will easily eclipse Costa's goalscoring peaks for us. Under the guidance of Conte, he can become of one the best strikers in the world. He's just 24 and he's already one of the best in the league and I'm sure Conte will improve his work ethic for the cause.

I pulled this off the Guardian comments section:

From Whoscored (if you feel the statistics presented is not accurate, do crosscheck it yourself): Bad control per game (UnsTCh) index is headed by Zaha with 3.3 per game
Costa - 3.2
King - 2.8
Kane - 2.8
Januzaj - 2.8
Shaqiri - 2.7
Benteke - 2.6
Pogba - 2.6
Aguero - 2.5
Arnautovic - 2.5

Guess who is number 2. We watch him every week and we know how often he loses the ball with his poor control and the stats just happen to back that up. Lukaku with his "terrible touch" is not even in the top 10.

It's just sad to witness what is happening with this club just after Conte delivers a *bonus* Premier league title. We are so poorly run for what is now a global brand of a football club.
