My completely unsubstantiated guess:

the club wants Lukaku back. He's one of the highest scoring strikers in the league the last couple of seasons, was once a Chelsea player and "loves the club". Conte probably wanted someone else, but he was told that they'd go in for any big player Conte wanted in exchange for bringing Lukaku in and that player is Sandro. The only reason I'm thinking this is because there was no talk about Sandro coming here until the Lukaku rumors started to look more promising.

Or maybe Conte believes a big, power striker is what this team needs.

I think its the club in all honesty. Like Luiz. Its an interesting move yes, he has got a lot of goals in the PL but his overall game still makes me wonder, is he going to be able to provide what Costa does? Because lets be honest Costa has gotten a lot of flack at times here but he isn't just a predator in the box he is an aggressive player off the ball, can play with his back to goal, runs the channels, wins a lot of fouls/balls out of nothing, can link well with Hazard/Pedro/Willian were as perhaps Lukaku doesn't have all of that, I think I seen somebody on sky sports say is Lukaku going to be on the same wavelength as one of Hazard, Cesc, Pedro or Willian like an on song Costa is? Or is his back to goal play as good as his? I have the same questions myself, I don't think he is the right fit, Morata is unknown to the PL maybe but he has played a few years in the Champions League, has played at two of the biggest clubs in Europe and ultimately is a winner, having won Serie A, La Liga, CL (fair enough RL probably got a medal when we won it), Club World Cup etc.

It's somehow depressing to learn Lukaku's only 4 years younger than Costa. I guess we bought Lukaku when Costa was 23 and still hadn't even made his Atletico impact?

It's 5 :)

But yeah, Costa broke in late, just like Drogba. We signed Didi at the age of 26 after one season at Marseille. At 23 he wasn't even playing in League 1.

Let me be pedantic and protect my ego. Lukaku is 24 and Costa is 28. Neither have a birthday coming up. It's 4, for now.

And there's nothing wrong with that. But it puts into perspective that they're the same generation. Lukaku's always had a narrative forced on him that he's the 'next big thing' from the 'next generation', but he isn't that young, it's simply surprising :P

Every single striker people compare Lukaku to and say he's better than if we're linked with them (Lewandowski, Aubameyang, Costa) are at least 4 years older and were worse than Lukaku at his age. Now I'm not a fan of the notion that 'look where he was at his age' but more important point is a lot of the slights aimed at Lukaku like 'he's not a big game player' (very debatable), 'no CL experience' could have been attributed to these players when they were 24.

It could be said to any alternative to Lukaku of same age bar Morata and Mbappe, not sure if I'm getting my point across but I think people need to realise he's not in his prime yet and like many other CFs right now in Europe his best could well come in the years he's about to see. He's in a different stage in his career than the likes Costa

Yeah, he is not a teenager anymore but this can be the first time when he can really prove his worth. He scored 25 goals this season and 25 last season, it's pretty much everything one can achieve at Everton. Now is the time for him to make a big step.

That'd if he even comes here.

Close to signing Michael Keane for £25m as well. Unless Everton have suddenly decided to be mega spenders out of nowhere, the Lukaku deal has surely been done. They probably have an agreement with us not to announce it until they announce all of their signings so their supporters won't riot. They won't mind selling Lukaku if they have 4-5 new players in.

Either way, Everton will be very strong next season. Nice additions.

They have money now in the form of Farhad Moshiri-net worth of £2.2 billion. So they have no reason to sell Lukaku for any less than what they're asking for.

I would love to see the look on Everton's owner when all his spending becomes a waste and he go into bankruptcy because Lukaku doesn't get bought and Barkley also doesn't get bought. i would laf my ass off because they seem to be spending with the notion that they will get the money back from the sales of Lukaku and Barkley and the rest of their star players if they have anymore.

Then they will come and beg us to help them off load Lukaku so they can pay their debt

they have spent over 100m pounds already and its the first week of July. Ambitious ambitions

The Toffees are believed to have met the 21-year-old's buy-out clause of £5.25m, taking their spending so far this summer past £60m. SKY
