  1. Oscar has a decent goal scoring record at club level as has Hazard, Mata also scored a few for us last season. Lampard will probably get into double figures and Torres should score a good number of goals this season considering who is providing him.
  2. I saw him play a few times at the Euro under 19 Championships this Summer. He was probably the pick of the bunch, undoubtedly their best midfielder, he will almost certainly become a real top class player. I cant see us getting him though, he is close to cracking the Athletico Madrid first team. However if we did manage to pull off this signing it would be a very significant one for the future, inevitably he will end up a mainstay in the midfield of the senior Spanish side.
  3. Mata started out on the right flank with freedom to drift but when Spain went down to 10 he actually found himself in quite a deep central position.
  4. He really is that good. Playing from a wide position but given the freedom to roam inside, drop deep and push forward centrally. It was a very complete performance from a player far more mature than his age would suggest. There is every reason why we should be excited about seeing him in a Chelsea jersey.
  5. Great pass again to Marcelo after clever short passing, wonderful range of passing.
  6. Fantastic half from Oscar and Brazil in general. His movement, the clever positions he takes up, his willingness to cobstantly look for the ball have been very impressive. That his teammates pass him the ball in such tight situations shows just how much they respect him. Playing in a free role from the right, it's been a quite masterful display from the young number 10.
  7. Spot on. It's great watching him play knowing he will be at our club next season.
  8. This is why I rate him so highly. This is why I thought he would end up at Barcelona or Real Madrid. It's a master lass from Brazil's number 10.
  9. Stunning. Terrific change of pace, great vision. How could you not be excited?
  10. There are no words to explain just how wrong this is.
  11. Eventually he probably will drop into a deeper midfield position but I hope we don't put him there immediately. As has been mentioned elsewhere, look at what Man Utd did to Anderson, they restricted him, confined him to a deeper role and it has stunted his development beyond repair. Oscar has far more about him than Anderson, this is Beazil's number 10, it would be a huge waste and a great shame were we to drain the creativity and freedom from his game. As it is he is a number 10, I hope it stays that way.
  12. The criticism is too harsh. It's pre season. Realistically of the four attackers playing in that first half, which of them will start when everyone is fit and available? I'd say none. Marin played well, dangerous running at players and times his passes well. Benayoun and Essien also had a good half.
  13. Ye, that's not to say that I haven't enjoyed watching Chelsea through the Mourinho years and beyond, I love the club no matter what. But I do feel that a short, quick passing game is the way to go in modern football and yes I do have a preference for technically gifted players over physical players.
  14. As you have probably guessed from my post, yes I am a massive fan of Oscar and I am genuinely over the moon about getting to see him play for our club week in, week out.
  15. Incredible signing. It's not every day that a Premier League club manages to sign Brazil's current, first choice number 10. I've already written quite a bit about how highly I rate him so Im just going to say that I am delighted that the club have wrapped up and announced the signing before the Olympics, great work from the board. Didier Drogba is an incredible force of nature, there is no like for like replacement for him. To change the way we play but to be as effective as we were was always going to be a massive challenge but the best way of doing it is by signing top class talent and in Hazard and Oscar we have signed two genuinely top class footballers. If you are a football fan then you are excited about the football Chelsea could produce next season. If you are a Chelsea fan then your possibly salivating at the potential of this Chelsea squad.
  16. These days its better just to ignore him.
  17. Obviously we cant sign everyone and he may not even join Man Utd anyway. Personally Im over the moon with our dealings this Summer, having seen both of them play, Id also rather Oscar over Lucas in any case.
  18. All in all I thought it was a good workout against a very talented PSG side. Defensively we looked more solid than we did against Seattle (not difficult) but still the first half performance from a defensive point of view was pretty unconvincing. Our attacking play wasn't hugely effective either. Hazard looked excellent on the ball and was our best player in the first half by quite some distance but he was let down by those around him. Kakuta looked out of place on the left wing, De Bruyne didn't have much of an impact on the right wing and Lukaku looked completely lost against opposition of this calibre. Mikel was pretty solid defensively and was a physical presence in midfield but we got the same old Mikel problem, the distribution wasn't quick enough and he failed to really link up the play, Lampard was ambitious but ineffective. Second half was much better, partly thanks to the changes giving us a more balanced side and also partly thanks to PSG's substitutions. Essien played very well, adding drive and urgency to the play and pushing the team forward. Malouda was effective in linking up with Cole on the left flank, they looked very dangerous. Marin looked good playing a central position, although he isn't likely to get the chance to play there much next season, his direct dribbling was important in putting PSG on the backfoot. Piazon looked a far better option up front than Lukaku, his movement, his willingness to receive the ball into feet, his positivity, all led to the goal. My pick for man of the match though is Ramires. Browsing through the thread and he has barely merited a mention, he was excellent. A real threat with his pace on the flank, used the ball quite well, really did well to help out the young right back and even occasionally tucked in to help out the central midfielders. It was an all action display from the Brazilian, I wasn't the least bit surprised that it was he who created the goal. A terrific option to have for the upcoming season. I think that what the first half confirmed is that while Hazard is an immense talent, he cant do it alone. If we are to play a quick, short, passing game then he needs those around him to be able to play the same way. Mata can do this. Torres will provide a better focal point to that kind of attack than Lukaku. Maybe we can put Mikel's plodding style on the ball down to a lack of fitness and we can hope that it improves when the serious stuff starts, personally Id still rather Romeu. But it also confirmed to me that we need as many technically gifted players in the side that we can get if this is to work which is why I think Oscar is an important signing to seal. If we are going to make a serious go of making this system work then we have to give it the best possible opportunity and the way to do that is by signing the best players of that type available.
  19. Cracking article form The Daily Mail. Eden Hazard made his Chelsea debut in their first pre-season game, scoring in a 4-2 win over Seattle Sounders. It was quite a start for the 21-year-old Belgium playmaker, but what does £32million get you these days? Well, how about Robert Pires, Lionel Messi and Dennis Bergkamp all rolled into one ... FIRST TOUCH OK, if you've just been signed for £32million you would expect to have a pretty decent first touch - but Hazard's control looks immaculate. His first touch, in any situation, was as close to perfect as you could get. In a tight spot he kept the ball under close control, in space he prodded it forwarded the perfect distance so not to break his stride and if a defender was tight, he has the ability to turn his maker with one flick of his boot. Robert Pires had the best first touch of any Premier league player I've ever seen - but Hazard looks to be just as good. MOVEMENT In a word: excellent. He popped up everywhere in the attacking third to pose the Sounders serious problems, especially in the first half. He seems to have that knack of finding space in areas where he can hurt the opposition. And his pace means he is able to escape the attentions of his marker with a sharp burst of speed in order to collect a pass and have his influence on the game. Bigger tests are to come, and he will have to be more disciplined in certain Premier League games but the message is clear to Chelsea's rivals next season: Let Hazard roam and he'll hurt you. DRIBBLING A local journalist shouted across the CenturyLink Field press box on Wednesday night: 'Hazard dribbles the ball like Messi.' The proclamation was probably a bit exaggerated - but you could see where he was coming from. The ball sticks to his feet effortlessly - and despite his small stature he looks to have the strength and balance to ride the robust challenges he will be accustomed too nest season. Sounders right-back Zach Scott can tell you all about that - he'll be glad when Hazard leaves for New York on Friday. AWARENESS People always used to say what made Dennis Bergkamp so good was that he always had a picture in his head. Hazard looks to have that same component in his game. The Belgian knew when to play one touch, when to hold it, when to run with it and when to pass it. Okay, it was a pre-season friendly against Seattle Sounders, but Hazard showed signs on Wednesday night that he is certainly not just a show pony - the final product is definitely there. SHOOTING Yes, he scored on his debut - but the shot for his goal did take a huge deflection before rolling past stranded Sounders keeper Bryan Meredith. Aside from that Hazard did not really show his ability to work the goalkeeper - but what will please manager Roberto Di Matteo was the 21-year-old's ability to pop up in positions where he could pull the trigger. And even more worrying for opposing defenders and goalkeepers next season, Hazard is good with both feet. Furthermore, his 21 goals for Lille last season suggests he knows where the goal is.
  20. Terrific article, this lad is the real deal, watching him play one word pops into your head, "class." Id also love the deal to be confirmed before the Olympics just to put my mind to ease a bit but it looks like a done deal now, I cant wait to see him play for Chelsea, Im 100% sure he will win over all of the doubters.
  21. I dont see the problem. Eden probably wants his brother here, he's worth granting that favour to. And we get a young player who might do well for us.
  22. TBH I didn't really notice, I will look out for that more the next time I see him play. I would say that his touch is still occasionally a bit wayward as is some of his passing but even Drogba's touches and passes drew a bit of criticism early in his Chelsea career and he was significantly older than Lukaku.
  23. I thought he did very well last night. Always looked to get on the ball, always picking up clever positions, always looking to find a teammate. Ok the mistake was bad, but it is pre season and he is still a bit inexperienced when it comes to first team football. That being said, his 2 assists were very good and his all round game was impressive. Id love to see him given some chances to shine in midfield next season, if that isn't possible then I suppose a loan move wouldn't be the worst thing in the world but it is crucial that we pick a club for him that will give him regular first team football and one which suits the way he plays, preferably in the Premier League.
  24. The technique still does need a bit of refinement but he has the time and the tools to improve. I thought he led the line well last night, his pace and power provide a real threat to opposition backlines and he took his goals well.
