Take into consideration that Southampton sacked their manager...and our form has been pathetic for weeks, this has a 1-1 draw written all over it. Hopefully our players actually turn up for once and show that they are capable of scoring 2 goals in a game.
-
The only one that comes to mind is Pochettino at Spurs (came from Southampton) if that counts.
-
I honestly don't recall a manager (in recent history) who has gone from mid-table to leading a top 4 side. Maybe Pochettino at Spurs (got them to a UCL final)... Ten Hag, Conte, Tuchel, Klopp, Pep were all elite before joining the Premier League. Even Mourinho had that killer mentality in him from his FC Porto days, you could see the next step was there. Potter hasn't proven anything. It's quite funny that Brighton are playing so well without Potter, makes you wonder just how average of a manager he is....as teams tend to struggle when a top class manager leaves the club but in Brighton's case, it's like as soon as Potter left, all the players have freedom to express themselves on the pitch and they are beating PL teams for fun.
-
Difference is... Felix has potential to improve in the right tactical setup. Bit of a difference from Havertz who has just looked bang average at Chelsea. Even Werner had more about his game than Havertz, probably the reason why Leipzig agreed to take him back

Pulisic playing with a manager like Simeone? I highly doubt that. We're better off asking Eddie Howe for a favor, he seems to like his wingers (Fraser at Bournemouth, Gordon at Newcastle etc)
-
There's a reason why Cech is considered as a legend, the guy was one of the top keepers in European Football season after season, even had that clean sheet record all those years ago. Kepa is generally good at shot stopping but the problem is, he has a proper mistake in him. He's sort of like Pickford for England national team, steady when called upon but when it comes down to crunch time, he's not a match winner and neither is Kepa (as we saw in those cup finals with Tuchel).

Both Oscar and Casemiro transferred to Europe at the age of 20/21 and they both had roughly 90+ appearances under their belt in the Brazilian league. Casemiro was on loan at FC Porto for a whole season before making his break through at Real Madrid at the age of 23 Will be interesting to see whether the club loan Santos out to a Portuguese side to help his development next season.
-
Tuchel also had his fair share of issues with a Director of Football type setup (his time at Dortmund & PSG were cut short due to disagreements & fights with the Director of Football/board). I felt like it was just bad timing for Tuchel: Had his ongoing personal issues with his partner Lost his best defender and his #1 supporter for nothing (Rudiger) Was asked to sign players and he doesn't really have any experience in that aspect so we ended up signing players that we didn't need for inflated fees (Koulibaly, Cucurella). The weird one was for the club to go after Potter as he was never going to be a short term fix and he doesn't have any success to his name. If the next few results don't go in Potter's favor, I do wonder whether the club considers letting him go. Spending that much in one transfer window has just put a bulls eye target on Potter's back.

"football machine like Brighton"....you do realize that Brighton never finished in the top half of the table up until last season. Potter was very lucky to be given a chance at a club that should be pushing for a Champions League place every season. The way he's heading, looks like he'll be told to go as the results have been shockingly bad.

Getting rid of ancelotti might not have been the right call but Villas-Boas was the next up and coming manager, his Porto side were fun to watch, they were winning for fun, went undefeated in their league (IIRC Falcao & Hulk were on fire) and he had connections with Chelsea as he was part of Mourinho's coaching staff. It's a shame that we didn't get Falcao + Moutinho at that point in time, could of been like Mourinho getting Carvalho and Ferreira back in the day. Compare that to Potter and it's laughable at the lack of quality. No wonder why we're so far off the pace in the league, we have a manager who is no different to Moyes at United version 2.0.
-
I wonder whether the players should be told to throw a few games just to see the end of Potter. It's honestly getting to that point, our form line has been pathetic for a long time. We used to complain that Lampard was out of his depth managing Chelsea...but was it really that much worse than what we've seen under Potter? Lamps can at least say that he somehow kept us in the european places....whereas Potter is leading us down the table and there's every chance we finish 10th this season.
-
Footballer of the year doesn't really mean all that much...Cucurella was always going to be a 6 out of 10 player at best, on some days, he can put in a 7 out of 10 performance. That's the reason why City wanted him as a squad player...and for some reason we got desperate and ended up paying Brighton an extra 20-25 million for him. Brighton were laughing all the way to the bank.
-
The problem is...Maatsen won't get a chance because of the Cucurella transfer. Still can't believe we actually paid 50+ million for an average player like Cucurella. No wonder why Manchester City pulled out of the negotiations, they knew that he wasn't worth more than 30 million.
-
He's just waiting for that bag of money to roll in. Same as Jorginho, every player has a price, Napoli will hold out for that 100+ million price tag, once they get that, they'll let him go and find the next talent on the cheap.
-
There were other articles last summer which basically said no one bid more than 70 million for Declan Rice. Good luck to West Ham if they do receive a bid in the 80+ million range for Declan as there is every chance he puts in a transfer request to force through a move.
-
There is no justification for relegating a football club. I think a transfer ban + possible points deduction would be enough of a deterrent for the rest of the PL sides.
-
The problem isn't getting in between the lines of the other team, the problem is, he offers nothing else to the team. To play that #10 role, you have to have that creativity, eye for a pass, longshot ability....and Kai has none of these attributes. He is no different to Werner, will immediately look like a solid player again once he returns to the Bundesliga.
-
You're right but considering there is a very high chance of him joining our long list of flops, I'll take my chances.
-
I knew that we would regret splashing so much money on this guy. To spend that much on a player that is raw and hasn't played in a top european league just to say that we beat Arsenal to his signing is crazy. To think we could have had Enzo-Caicedo as our midfield moving forward for a similar transfer fee.
-
I hope we go nowhere near Bielsa. Even Everton backed out of a possible Bielsa deal because apparently he requested specific players for his system and the Everton board disagreed. I wouldn't mind Flick if he is interested in club coaching again, has shown that he can deal with egos in a dressing room (Bayern Munich & Germany to an extent). The other name that may be a bit left field is Glasner at Frankfurt, he's been in that RB model a few years back and I'm sure Vivell will keep a close eye on his progress.
-
With Felix, I wouldn't be surprised if that was part of his loan contract conditions where he would be given the chance to participate in the UCL. If only we didn't waste that money on Mudryk, Badiashile would have had a chance to play in the UCL this season.
-
I feel like Brighton won in every way possible. De Zerbi is an upgrade on Potter and they managed to get rid of two players who didn't want to be there (first was Cucurella who had his head turned by City and then we ended up paying an extra 20 million for him for no reason) and then they sold off Trossard in January. Potter was thrown into a sink or swim type of situation and he's sinking at the moment. When was the last time we actually had a solid win against a side in the top half of the table? The performances we put up against Arsenal/Newcastle were borderline pathetic, we were chasing shadows for 90 minutes...the same can be said about the City game, they barely left 2nd gear. United have a good coach, Liverpool/City have elite coaches, Arsenal have found a good coach, Newcastle have a coach that has them playing on the front foot and Spurs have the Italian madman in charge. It looks like we're the only ones with an average coach...
-
That would be a solid option. Potter just reminds me of Moyes at United version 2.0, he's never had to handle so many egos/big names in the dressing room and you can tell he is out of his depth. There is no way that any fan should be accepting a 0-0 draw against our local rivals Fulham, particularly at home. There was enough "talent" out there to score at least 1 goal against them. People used to Lampard was a bit out of his depth trying to manage Chelsea but at least he had connections with the club and understood the fans, Potter is no better and he hasn't really improved anyone this season other than Kepa...
-
Even when you say that, you know Havertz will be selected for pretty much every game as there is no alternative. Potter is already under pressure this season, he's not going to further rock the boat by leaving Havertz on the bench. The same can be said for Mason Mount...both will play the majority of games if they are fit.
-
He's still too raw to get significant minutes, wouldn't expect anything more than cameo appearances for Fofana. Feel like it's going to be Havertz/Felix/Sterling if Potter does choose to rotate...
