RIM released their BlackBerry 10 new phone lines less than 6 months ago and all they got was a massive loss, something around 150mi (dollars, obviously). It hasnt sold anything because it is not better than all the other Samsung, Nokia, HTC and Apple phones and people wont change their smartphones for another that doesnt do anything different than theirs... They have no money to invest in a new lineup, it takes work force, time, a lots lots of money. The only thing that is left is the software service! Think about it, if people buy a whole new phone only for BBM, why not make it a paid service in other plataforms? If you can cut massive expenses by giving up the hardware market, you can become very profitable in other popular plataforms, such as iOS and Android! They will be able to fire a couple of very expensive departments and they wont need all those big labs (which will be sold for a good amount of money). More than that, they have only basic coding and simple advertisement to do because BBM is an already stablished service and not an entirely new chat software! For strange as it may sound, giving up making smartpones and focusing on software might be the last hope for RIM (which has been putting bigger loss after the other in every fiscal trimester)...

In Sao Paulo, it gets as cold as 5-7 C, but there are places in Brazil where 15 C is a good reason to put on a jacket and eat soup or hot chocolate!
