  1. The only problem I have with that is goalkeepers are sort of a different species from outfield players. Competition isn't always a good thing in this case and it is usually a waste of a sub to change GKs in ongoing matches. What this mean is that they'll play alternated matches if they rotate, but that isn't good for building understanding with the back four or for building confidence, which is important for the job. Of course it has its pros, having Cech will safeguard us with an world class backup in case Courtois gets injured and/or if he doesn't renew his contract. But I still think the best case scenario would be finding a top team where Cech could challenge for titles and be motivated to give his best whilst also lessening our wage burden so we can improve other areas. Having two world class goalkeepers isn't as beneficial as having two world class players for the same outfield positions. I just can't help but feel rotating isn't the best choice and having Cech on the bench is not only demeaning to him but also a waste of his talents.
  2. No offense but Cech deserves better than QPR. Unfortunately timing is not on his side, Courtois got too good too fast and I can't remember a major european team in need of a top goalkeeper from the top of my head. If this was some months ago, maybe Barcelona. And, of course, we're certainly not reinforcing one of our domestic league rivals with one of the best goalkeepers in the world who happens to be a club legend too. If he's going to play for a minor side I think I'd rather have him here playing cup matches and on hold in case Courtois gets injured or something odd occurs.
  3. I don't like this. I think Cech isn't going to see a lot of game time. A player of his caliber should be playing regularly. Cech staying isn't good for us financially and sitting on the bench isn't good for him, he could easily get into other top teams and keep showcasing his class and ability. Rotating goalkeepers is kinda meh. If he gets relevant play time it's probably going to be on pointless matches. I don't see how this is profitable for him or for us, not the ideal situation.
  4. I believe he said "es un poco palomo...". My spanish dictionary says palomo may mean a dove or in informal speech a person who is amiable, good, harmless, soft, naive. But he says he's a great goalkeeper anyways. And Courtois as Costa's translator is just
  5. To be honest he had a very good start to the last season. I remember I was thinking in one of the games he had even learned how to pass, it was looking more accurate and he was trying more long balls and difficult passes and succeeding in doing so. And then, at some point into the season his form went downhill.
  6. HAHAHAHA. Is that how the moderators here behave? This forum has gone downhill. [/salty thin-skinned dude that complains about everything and was raised by his grandmother] Anyhow... I reckon confidence makes you more consistent and as a result it makes your technique look better. Of course confidence won't make you able to do things you couldn't before but it is probably going to make you more successful in everything you are capable of doing. So in a way it improves your technique somewhat. But we both seem to agree he won't suddenly take the world by storm and I think ultimately that's what matters.
  7. I disagree. I think confidence and finishing are very closely related. Just to give you an example, I've seen Neymar fail to score goals for Barcelona that he used to score for Santos and Brazil with his eyes closed. I can't watch the videos because I'm on my phone's internet but being confident in the moment of the finishing may change everything, your composure, the type of shot you're going to use, whether you should take another step or not, whether you should try another dribble or just shoot... confidence can completely alter what you're going to do to score. Back to Neymar, I've seen him shoot the ball on the opposing goalkeeper countless times for Barça in situations where he would just chip the ball over the goalkeeper if he were playing for Santos or Brazil, solely for lacking confidence. Other times he would try to dribble too much, other times his aim looked completely off... Still he probably won't ever score as many of those goals based on pace. Which he seemed to score quite a lot.
  8. You're being a bit too harsh. Finishing and decision making can be improved massively with confidence. Now, I don't believe for a second he will be significantly better for Milan, because even having said that, I think he's weak minded and a broken player. He may have short periods of confidence when he will look decent like he has had for us, but I don't think he will ever be consistently good again. It seems to take too little for Torres to give up and start playing poorly with no confidence.
  9. It happens. I lurked around the forum for months before posting for the first time. Anyways, as excited as I am, I'm still waiting for his medical exams before shouting loudly with everything I have. Knowing Torres I wouldn't be surprised if he failed them.
  10. I thought we had agreed you wouldn't ever mention that incident
  11. Just got some internet back to my place and I see the forum is in performance mode. Is this really happening?
  12. So, how's the fundraiser thing going? Let's hurry people.
  13. How come we're free when Torres is the epitome of deadwood?
  14. A player so bad he looks poor for a third striker spot but on a 175k a week salary? Definitely special, we're talking about a one of a kind thing here. We may never see something like this happen ever again. I'm with him on this one, definitely special player. He will live in our memories for the longest of times.
  15. Or, you know, just really about the money.
  16. Environment also plays a part. Sometimes parents will force their children to be right handed, I don't know if they do that in Belgium though. In the end their true nature will emerge when they start playing football and pick their comfortable foot.
  17. Hopefully somewhere dealing with his transfer move. One can dream.
  18. He was not even responsible for that. Unfortunately Mata and KDB weren't playing well when they were sold. Whilst I think we could have given KDB more chances because he's another young player who could still potentially change his gameplay significantly and be important for us, Mata will probably never put a decent defensive shift and unfortunately he's no Messi or Ronaldo to be excused from contributing to the team, when the matches get very physical even his offensive contribution suffers a lot and he becomes a huge liability in both ends. And I loved Mata. If Oscar had started last season badly and one of Mata or KDB did well it maybe wouldn't have happened. They can only blame themselves. And in the end the money from Mata and KDB helped us improving areas where we lacked quality more - pivot and striker.
  19. This has got to be the winner, no doubt. How can he even do that face? Some top notch talent right there.
  20. What you fail to realize is that Torres was the most expensive signing of the EPL, under massive wages and a player who should be supposedly at his prime or close to it, he should be carrying this team from the moment he joined but instead he's our worst player and someone we can't seem to get rid of. Oscar came for less than half Fernando's price, and as with any other young player, a great part of his price tag comes down to potential, not only his current level. And even then he has made the difference and won matches for us at times. They are two completely different situations and how can you not see it is beyond me or any rational human being.
  21. It's not wrong, but the fact that he couldn't even wait for the game to end before leaving the match thread and come here to bad mouth Oscar should tell you enough how much he wants to bash him. And his detractors are so nonsensical that they decide to do their backlash on him not after Burnley, when he was mediocre on the ball and rarely attempted anything at all, but after Leicester, a game when he tried to make things happen the whole game, even if he was ineffective in the first half. That's what annoys me, all this bashing after yesterday's game sounds completely random and just criticizing him for the sake of pillory. When he actually shows a decent performance and actually participates in creating a goal is when you guys decide it was the last nail in the coffin, lmao.
