They'll still likely have a average manager and a ton of expensive deadwood. Also City, Arsenal plus us with the addition of a competent striker beat that for a front four. They would have to move Mata to 10 and sign a right winger.
-
I'm still angry about Robben being sold
-
Anyone think this gives us some option or deal on Rooney? could definitely see them screwing us over if we insisted on one If not I can't see why we are selling to them, are they the only club interested who Mata would move to? the only team who will pay the fee/pay it quickly? Otherwise I can't believe Mourinho sees them as such little a threat and rates Mata that lowly, and I don't buy him being sold to them to take points from City etc.
-
Basel are playing in the Champions League, it's not all about the league anyway. Do you think if we played Thorgan or Piazon they would be a success?
-
You can't compare Piazon and Atsu to Januzaj, maybe Traore can make a bigger impact, but neither have the same talent. It's not always about players being given a chance, Untied before Januazj hadn't brought anyone top quality through for years. I don't see any of our young players other then Courtois really pushing for minutes
-
Thorgan and Piazon will struggle to make an impact here- they are playing in much weaker leagues. I think the policy, especially with signings like Atsu is that you buy cheap, if they dramatically improve, great, If not their value has risen and we can profit on them- like with De Bruyne. Im sure if we were to sell Courtois, Lukaku, Atsu, Piazon, Thorgan etc. we would make money. They are low risk signings, a couple might be good enough, the rest we might even profit on.
-
All depends on the price, for £10m he could be a decent risk, for £16m he's a poor signing. It does seem like our scouting is based off who plays well against us sky scout seems to rate him pretty highly- http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/15198/9048796/scout-mohamed-salah
-
He'll be sold, probably for £15-20m, maybe in the summer
-
He was pretty much forced out, manager told him he can go, got hardly any games
-
Or Moses/Marin can come back! It could look very foolish when we are dying for creativity or have injuries. Irregardless of whether he fits the system or not, would anyone disagree that he is our 2nd best player...by a distance? At 25 Oscar might be a better all round player, but he's too inconsistent now. Willian will never create the chances or goals Mata can
-
why we are making this so easy for them?
-
I support selling Mata, I don't understand selling him to Man United no matter the fee, especially without a replacement lined up, we aren't Tottenham or Arsenal. Mata has plenty of time on his contract, their is no rush to sell, we've let De Bruyne go, we could bring in Reus or Di Maria, then sell Mata to PSG or whoever; a foreign team will pay £40m for him, I don't understand the rush to sell. As good as Willian and Oscar have been they aren't at the level of Hazard where you'd have them as automatic first choice. As dynamic and hard working as Willian is, ideally I think we'd have a player who scores more goals, with Willian rotating with all three attacking midfielders.
-
Of course £40m is a lot, but not for a player of Mata's ability, and especially not considering he's moving to a desperate domestic rival. It also isn't that much to this club, which is run by someone who can spend £32m on Willian as soon as we see Spurs are about to sign him. You also assume he will stay as 3rd/2nd choice and that Oscar and Willian won't drop in form/get injured. 40m wont change our transfer policy, lacking an attacking midfielder might. But we will still bring in a striker and possibly a left back and centre back; clubs knowing we have 40m in the bank might affect their policy on selling to us.
-
Mata's 3rd choice no.10 and 2nd choice right wing, he isn't Marin. Is £40m really that much in football now? Fellaini cost £28m, Shaw would cost £25m+, Costa likely £35m - Mata is far superior to them all. We should be in a strong position, we don't need to sell, Man United are desperate for a marquee signing. What 2 or 3 good players will we get for £37-£40m? Every club will see we've just got £40m and hike up their prices; and when have we needed to sell to bring in good players?
-
exactly, us getting £40m doesnt mean we go out and spend £40m extra on top of what we would already spend. The only thing that should be of any concern is us weakening our squad significantly (who doesn't think Mata can make the difference later in the season, especially off the bench) and strengthening Man United. We could well end up with fucking Moses or Marin back as 5th choice attacking midfielder and no one challenging Oscar and Willian when they inevitability drop in form. Let Man United try and sign Draxler or Reus, I doubt they'd be able to get them, probably ending up with another Fellaini. On that note, why are we only demanding £37m from a club who spent £28m on Fellaini?
-
Because we don't need £40m? I understand if you're a selling team who needs money. Selling him for £20m with a clause that he can't move to an EPL club for x amount of time is a better value move. Why don't we loan Crystal Palace Ba, Schrulle etc. to give them more chance of taking points off our rivals? I kind of feel Mourinho's stance of 'if the player wants to go he can' sends out the wrong message, that he doesn't want the player.
-
Great, more Ramires or a shit striker out wide. It's 4 attacking midfielders for a team that plays with 3. Mata's useful to have, without him the squad lacks creativity- only Hazard and to a lesser extent Oscar provide this. We need someone to challenge Willian and Oscar, to help us break down teams. I do understand Mourinho's stance on Mata, but selling him to United, is beyond stupid whichever way you look at it, especially since they've been cunts over Rooney. The only way we should let him go is if someone of equal or greater ability is coming in, if we brought in Reus and sold Mata to PSG that would be smart
-
If he goes, alongside KDB, that leaves us 4 players for 3 positions. It will reinvigorate our rivals, we don't need the money and I don't see how he fits at all, he won't play no10 at all there and he is much worse on the wing as has been proven here under numerous managers. He's even less suited to playing on the wings in the 442 they play. Add the fact he's one of our best players, good attitude, very popular and successful here; I'd hope Mourinho would be smart enough not to sell him to another PL team
-
We don't sell to Man Utd, that should be the end of any negotiations
-
haha Moyes' face
-
bit harsh, should've been a yellow
