  3. New Chelsea recruit Franco Di Santo has described the thought of playing alongside Didier Drogba as "something out of another world" as he gets set to leave for London at the end of the week. Chelsea paid £3.4 million to the Chilean club Audax Italiano to secure the services of Di Santo and he is all set to leave his homeland of Argentina to join up with his new team-mates over the weekend. In a good early sign for Chelsea fans, Di Santo laughed off suggestions that the weather would be an issue for him once he makes the move to London. "For me I like the cold and rain, so in that aspect there is no problem. If I want to prevail I must adapt to how it is," he told Olé. He was then asked whether he can believe the speed of his rise of fame, to which he stated that it has come as a major surprise to him to reach so many milestones early in his career. "No, for not all. In the year and a bit I have been playing so much has happened. I played in the Copa Libertadores and I played for the Under-20 national team in the South American tournament in Paraguay. "In just a very short time, I have achieved things that few have. This makes me very happy... It seems like it was just yesterday when, at 14 years old, I went by myself to the other side of the Mountain range (Chile) with this dream." Di Santo was obviously excited about the prospect of moving to Chelsea and linking up with the world-renowned players who are already at the club, whom he hopes to learn from and improve his game. "I have the idea to go to learn. It is going to be a dream for me to be next to Drogba, Kalou, Lampard, Wright-Phillips, Shevchenko and Anelka, that they bought recently. "I am going to watch how they play and if I am called on to be part of the team, I will be prepared to give my maximum and do what I do best. I will fulfil whatever the manager Avram Grant requests of me; that is if I understand it (laughs)." Finally, Di Santo suggested that he will just be privileged to play alongside the likes of Drogba at Chelsea and hopes one day to achieve the same success and be able to give something back to his home town. "I always speak with my father, Jorge. To be in clothes, changing next to Drogba will be something out of another world. I am going to help him tie his laces (laughs). I must become used to being around these players since now they will be my teammates. "I hope to reach those heights, although I have a way to go... I do not wish to disappoint those who have trusted in me, especially the people of Mendoza. I want to help the unemployed where I was born and football in my province," he concluded.

  7. Chelsea are looking to bring in more players this month and chief executive Peter Kenyon said an announcement will hopefully be made next week. The Blues, who miss key players – Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou, Michael Essien and Mikel due to their national commitment for African Nations Cup, are looking to compensate and keep their title hopes alive. “I think we're still looking as always, not for many but for the right ones and there will hopefully be another announcement next week,” Kenyon told Chelsea TV. As such, Avram Grant has got in prolific striker Nicolas Anelka in a £15m deal from Bolton last week to offset the absence of Drogba, and Kenyon disclosed that the negotiations were quite complicated. “Negotiations are always difficult and this has proven no different. But I think he was Bolton's major player and clearly that's always difficult to prise away,” Kenyon commented. “Those discussions have been going on for a couple of months but we got there very late on Thursday night, Friday morning, and we were lucky enough to get him registered and conclude everything on Friday night. “But they handled the negotiations extremely well and we are delighted to have him.”
  8. zola was 29 when we bought him and zola was fucking brilliant
  9. Milan president Silvio Berlusconi has hinted he may let Chelsea have a free run at Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho. Both giants of European football have been linked with a move for the forward who is currently struggling to make the Barcelona first team after a poor run of form. Milan had always appeared to be strong suitors given their talented Brazilian contingent and draw as one of Europe's most historic clubs, but Berlusconi appears to have cooled his interest in the two-time World Player of the Year. Reports in Spain have claimed that Chelsea are closing in on Ronaldinho's signature and the Milan supremo gave off an air of indifference after watching his side, complete with new prodigy Alexandre Pato, rout Napoli 5-2 on Sunday night. "In all honesty I am not disappointed with this news," Berlusconi told Sky Italia. "We never said we'd do anything for him. "I believe a great player can always find space in a team, but with the stars we have now that could spark some problems in the dressing room. "He is not in good form and is even disappointing Barcelona fans." http://sport.setanta.com/en/Sport/News/Foo...-on-Ronaldinho/
  10. i agree m8 i think alves is the best option for the right-back postion but i wish Belletti was 26 because he has be brilliant for chelsea this season
  11. Chelsea are ready to rekindle their interest in Miguel after making enquires over his services this week. It appears Blues boss Avram Grant is far from convinced by Portuguese international Paulo Ferreira and Miguel is the man he wants. Chelsea are believed to have come up short in a bid for Miguel last summer when they also failed to get Daniel Alves and eventually went for Juliano Belletti. But The Blues have continued to track Miguel, who they have watched for the last 12 months, which is why Grant is already aware of him. Miguel is keen to move to England and a switch to the West London giants would no doubt appeal, although Aston Villa remain keen. Villa want a high-class right-back and Miguel has impressed Martin O'Neill - but it remains to be seen whether they could compete with Chelsea - who could also offer Ferreira as a makeweight in the deal. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11677_3044341,00.html

  16. Jose Mourinho believes that Euro 2008 will be a poorer competition because of the absence of the England team. The miserable 3-2 defeat by Croatia at Wembley saw England finish in third place in qualifying Group E and led to the Football Association terminating the contract of head coach Steve McClaren after just 18 games. Former Chelsea manager Mourinho has already emerged as a strong contender to replace McClaren, and the Portuguese has admitted his affinity with the English game. Big loss He told Sky Sports News: "This is sad, a big loss for European football. "I was always a supporter of the England national team and England's clubs. "A European championships without England is not the same as one with them."http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_2897100,00.html
