Jamie Redknapp's hopes of pursuing a coaching career with Chelsea have been dashed. The [i]Daily Mail[/i] says Redknapp has been blocked from taking up a part-time coaching role at Chelsea by his Sky Sports employers. He was due to work unpaid for two days a week with the Chelsea reserve side as part of his coaching badge qualification. But the Sky Sports high command, who were not impressed by being left in the dark over Redknapp’s coaching plans, have moved quickly to ensure it doesn’t happen.

Mr Abramovich made a surprise visit to Nevada Smiths in New York on Saturday in order that he could keep tabs on Chelsea’s progress in their match at the Reebok Stadium against Bolton Wanderers. Nevada Smiths is the home of The New York Blues, a bar where ex-pats and American Chelsea supporters regularly gather to watch their side via satellite TV. Chelsea’s Russian owner was in the United States on business but took the opportunity to join the regulars in their haunt and, much to the delight of those in the bar, sat amongst the Blues supporters to cheer on his side. Those present took the opportunity to meet Chelsea’s owner and, as well as having their photos taken with him, took the opportunity to discuss affairs at Stamford Bridge and also to watch the match.
