Florentino Perez has confirmed an interest in French international Franck Ribery and made clear that Zinedine Zidane’s role as an advisor on transfer matters has been decisive. The Bayern Munich star has been strongly linked with Premier League duo Chelsea and Manchester United, but with Barcelona also monitoring the 25-year-old it is thought that the Bernabeu outfit have decided to move swiftly by approaching Bayern Munich. Speaking to French publication L’Equipe, Perez, who has already intimated that Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo will move to Spain, emphatically stated: “It would be an immense satisfaction to be able to have Ribery with us. "But first of all I have to speak to his current club, Bayern Munich. Over the coming days, I will get in touch with my friends Karl-Heinz Rummenigge (Bayern's chairman) and Uli Hoeness (manager) to ask them what they plan to do with Ribery. "As an adviser, Zidane talked a lot about Ribery," Perez said. "He explained to us that (Ribery) would correspond perfectly to Real Madrid's philosophy. And we listened to him."

Barcelona are planning to hijack Chelsea's bid for Russia star Yuri Zhirkov. The newly crowned European champions are buoyed the CSKA Moscow player's comments that he would not go to Stamford Bridge to be merely a squad player. The 25-year-old was also gushing in his praise for the Catalans in the run-up to the Champions League defeat of Manchester United. However, Chelsea are still favourites to complete an £18.6m deal and Zhirkov would also face no guarantees of a starting place at the Nou Camp. Pep Guardiola identified five areas to boost his treble-winning team and sees versatile Zhirkov as a two-in-one because he would cover for Eric Abidal at left-back as well as providing a threat on the left wing in the absence of Thierry Henry. Former Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink dodged questions about Zhirkov in his first interviews since returning his full attention to the Russia national team, but he hinted that his players would benefit from playing abroad. Hiddink confirmed he would informally continue to advise Chelsea and says he has already had a conversation with his successor Carlo Ancelotti about a number of topics. But the Dutchman would not go into detail about Zhirkov, who he and Blues owner Roman Abramovich watched play against Aston Villa in the UEFA Cup earlier this year. Asked if he had recommended the player to Abramovich, Hiddink smiled broadly before saying: 'Let me not comment on it. I am here to deal with the affairs of the Russian national team. 'I've kept a good relationship with Chelsea. As for Yuri, I called him up for Russia, I am their head coach, and as for anything else except the national team - such as Chelsea or CSKA - it is not my intention to comment.' But he did say that Russians would benefit from the English experience, just as Andrey Arshavin at Arsenal and Roman Pavlyuchenko at Tottenham Hotspur have. 'The difference between Russia and Chelsea is that Chelsea have many world-class stars who train hard to achieve their success. 'Russia players are also learning this abroad and are beginning to be recognised among the best players in Europe. 'They are learning that to be a top star in international football, they must work very hard in training and never complain.' Barcelona realise they are second favourites to sign Zhirkov because of the close relationship between CSKA and Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich. The Spanish club are also considering former Liverpool left-back John Arne Riise and Deportivo la Coruna's Filipe Luis.

Sky Sports football pundit Guillem Balague believes Chelsea never made a concrete bid for Kaka, instead the rumour was created in order to increase the player’s already astronomical pay demands. Speculation was rife that both Real Madrid and Chelsea were in a two horse race for the AC Milan star; however the Spanish journalist suggests the La Liga giants were the only ones involved in the deal after Chelsea’s enquiry never led to a bid. Balague told Sky Sports News: “Everything has got very, very confused over the last couple of days; from what I know, there is no Chelsea offer on the table and Real Madrid know that. They realised it was Kaka trying to get more money.” Balague continued: “Kaka is going to Real Madrid,” “Nothing has been finalised; he hasn't been presented to the players or announced yet officially because of the elections but the situation will be much, much clearer by Monday.” Balague concluded that if Chelsea wanted to sign Kaka, then Ancelotti should have begun negotiations months ago, while he was the player’s coach at Milan. “If Ancelotti wanted Kaka, he would have talked to him about a month ago and said 'I'm definitely going to Chelsea - why not just come with me?' and put everything in place. That did not take place.” “Yes, there have been conversations between Chelsea and Kaka in the last couple of days but no offer was made because they all realise he was far too way down the path of joining Real Madrid. It gets to a point where you cannot highjack any sort of deal.”

Inter Milan's former Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho has not ruled out a bid for unhappy Blues defender Ricardo Carvalho. The Portugal international played under Mourinho at both Porto and Stamford Bridge and he admitted on Wednesday that last season was the worst of his career. Despite guiding Inter to their fourth consecutive Italian title, Mourinho still believes the club needs reinforcements. The Nerazzurri have already signed Genoa duo Diego Milito and Thiago Motta but Mourinho wants three more signings as they look to replicate their domestic success on the European stage. "The important thing is that Motta and Milito's transfers have been done," said Mourinho. "In order to improve, we still need a forward, a midfielder and a central defender. "Once we have all of this, we will be much stronger." He added: "I don't want to talk about names. "We do need a good central defender. Carvalho? We shall see." Reports have also linked Carvalho's team-mate at Chelsea, Deco, another former Porto player, and Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o to the San Siro

Milan starlet Alexandre Pato has been linked with a mega-money move to Chelsea since Carlo Ancelotti was confirmed as the Blues' new coach. On Wednesday, the player's agent claimed that his client could be on the move this summer and he was ready to negotiate if Milan and Chelsea reached an agreement. However, Milan president Silvio Berlusconi has swiftly denied the possibility that the Brazilian hitman will be leaving the San Siro. "Absolutely not. He will stay with us," claimed the club supremo on the program Porta a Porta. Pato has flourished since making his debut for Milan back in January of 2008. He has scored 15 goals in Serie A this season and has become a continual member of the Brazilian national team. With Kaka seemingly on the verge of joining Real Madrid, it would be a bitter blow if Pato was to leave as well.

Chelsea have joined the battle for Manchester United's want-away striker Carlos Tevez. The Daily Star says Chelsea have made a late entry into the race for his signature, with both Roman Abramovich and new manager Carlo Ancelotti big fans of his commitment and ability to score important goals.

Florent Malouda’s end-of-season resurgence looks to have secured him a new Chelsea deal after the France winger admitted he was set for talks to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge. Malouda struggled to adapt to life in The Premier League during his first 18 months at the club following his £13.5 million move from Lyon. But the wideman has found his form in recent weeks, culminating in a superb display in Saturday’s FA Cup final victory over Everton. And his improved performances look to have paid dividends, with talks on a extended deal expected to begin soon. "We will have a meeting at the beginning of June but both parties want to carry on,” he told the Evening Standard. "It's a wonderful experience but just the beginning. I hope in the next years you will see me win many, many trophies. "When you play so many high-profile games you get the experience and confidence that comes with it. I hope to share joy and happiness with the fans.”

STRIKER Didier Drogba will be offered a new three-year contract by Chelsea. Contrary to media speculation that the Blues were not prepared to hand him a fresh long-term deal, one will be put before the Ivory Coast international within the next week. Drogba is seen by Chelsea as being irreplaceable and has proved his worth to the capital club yet again this season. Despite his earlier problems with former boss Luiz Felipe Scolari, Drogba returned to his best form under the managerial tenure of interim coach Guus Hiddink. He was at the centre of controversy following Chelsea’s Champions League exit at the hands of Barcelona when he confronted Norwegian referee Tom Henning Ovrebo after the final whistle. Drogba’s foul-mouthed rant was seen by millions as he swore straight at the TV cameras. However Chelsea have been impressed by his behaviour since the incident, for which he apologised almost immediately. Chelsea now believe that it is better to keep Drogba than look for a replacement. The club are convinced he can play a major part in their search for silverware under new manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Mark Hughes has conceded that he is powerless to prevent striker Daniel Sturridge from leaving Manchester City. The 19-year-old forward has been linked with a move to Chelsea and could quit Eastlands this summer after failing to agree a new deal with the club."We are not in a position to dictate that [sturridge's future] really," Hughes told Sky Sports. "We have offered Daniel a deal that we think is at the level he should be at. "He is in a strong position because he is in the last year of his contract. "He is keeping his options open, which he has done for quite some time, we just have to wait and see. "Obviously I have made my intentions very clear to him I would like him to stay but it may be out of our hands."

Real Madrid tonight closed in on the signing of the Brazilian playmaker Kaka, seeming to end Chelsea's pursuit of the Milan player – although any deal will not be announced until next week. Chelsea, and their new coach Carlo Ancelotti, seemed to be in with a chance of hijacking the deal when negotiations between the player's agent and father, Bosco Leite, and Real Madrid appeared to break down. Chelsea tabled a rival bid when talks stalled over the size of the commission due to Leite. But Madrid remain convinced that the signing will go through and that Kaka will sign a five-year contract on a salary of €9m a year. The fee is understood to be in the region of €64m (£55m) – substantially lower than the €100m reportedly offered by Manchester City in January. Milan's vice-president, Adriano Galliani, met with Real Madrid's new president Florentino Pérez at the Madrid headquarters of Pérez's construction company ACS. They were joined by Leite while the player was last night in Brazil awaiting news.
