As a previous supporter of the EDL I feel I should steer well clear of this thread, but I just want to say essentially why I supported the EDL and why I stopped. I first started going to EDL in the very beginning after hearing about them through a friend. I researched about them and spoke to a lot of the members and realised I agreed with a lot of what they were saying. They were a group that was solely against Muslim extremists, that in fact welcomed Muslims and believe it or not in the early days there were Muslims that went to a few of the marches. Unfortunately a group of this nature was always going to fail. It was very poorly organised and the leaders were ex-hooligans which attracted younger ''hooligans''. As time went by and the group got more and more publicity you started to notice changes in the sort of people coming. The group started with people that wanted to fight for a cause, to people without a cause turning up. It turned into a day out for these obvious racists so they can run around in the streets causing trouble, with a Stella in hand, poxy EDL jumper on and sing there vile, racist songs. I'm not going to pretend I'm not right wing, because I am and I feel I will always have right wing values. When I say right wing, a lot of you are probably sat there thinking what a racist scum bag. To clear that up I'd like to say I don't have a problem with any race, nor religion and I am actually for (a more controlled form of) immigration.
