He helped change our style and offered a completely different alternative to soften the blow of losing the midfield goals of Lampard.
He was hugely influential in Jose's title winning season, and despite a significant reduction in minutes also had a very good season in Conte's title winning season which flew under the radar somewhat.
I was also extremely impressed with his attitude since at Chelsea. At Arsenal and Barcelona he came across as petulant, but he's a competitive winner. He could have had far easier moves than coming to Chelsea given his Arsenal history. He also had the option to take the easy route out when Conte didn't fancy him but he battled his way into his plans, and the length and success of his Chelsea time seems to have come from making tough decisions and putting in a lot of hard work which wouldn't necessarily be associated with a player of his natural talents.
A club prepared to build around his ability on the ball and offer legs around him will still get some very good mileage out of him even entering the twilight of his career.
I have a huge amount of respect for him and if he leaves this month or this summer, I wish him the best of luck with the rest of his career.

The only times i recall you were prominent on here during our title winning season was the Spurs game at WHL where you took over the match thread telling us our invincibility's gone and were getting caught by our amazing rivals and the Costa thread after he went a few games without a goal and you were going on about how shit he was.
There may be some things we need to worry about but there's also plenty to look forward too and i don't really get why your so desperate to make out were so shit while all our rivals (including a side we have comfortably finished above every season with the core of these lads bar once) are like Pep's Barca reborn, but each to their own i guess.

Off topic here, but I've seen quite of bit of bickering on the site today.  More than usual.
Finally an end to the managerial speculation.  Stole a target from City (a real one that we need, not a Sanchez situation).  Exciting times ahead.  C'mon people.

Is there another thread all this Monday "banter" can go on? It's beyond annoying hoping to catch 2/3 pages of either updates or analysis of Sarri's coaching and all we have is that.

I'm sure that the club is laying the groundwork for deals, etc.
It is important this summer that we get things right. If Sarri is coming in it will require a significant shift in our style and likely a move away from the formation we have become used to the last couple of years. Some players will adjust, and other players will struggle and for Sarri and the club to make decisions on some players or areas of the squad, he may need the chance first and foremost to see them in training and speak to them in person. This cannot be done until we're back in pre-season anyway. A perfect case in point could be Morata. Sarri ripped Higuain to shreds when he first joined Napoli and he was arguably the best striker in Europe that following season. He may want to see if he feels he can get more out of Morata first before discarding him or bringing in an expensive striker that uses up a large proportion of our transfer budget.
I know people are getting nervous but we are going to know in the next week or so for certain the manager situation with everybody coming back for pre-season and thereafter I'm sure we'll see some deals take place. I personally would rather see 3 top drawer signings than 6 or 7 good but not great ones anyway. We've also got loan players like Loftus-Cheek, Batshuayi, Kenedy, Mount, etc who could potentially come back into the fold much more confident and experienced to make an impact on the squad, and the likes of Barkley and Emerson who joined the club lacking match fitness and sharpness in January.
It would be expected for the likes of United, City and Liverpool to be pressing on with transfer plans quicker than us because their managers are set in place and already have a full assessment of the squads at their disposal and likely drew up transfer plans for this summer potentially months ago. Ok, Arsenal are in a similar boat to us but let's be honest so far their signings and/or potential signings seem fairly underwhelming for a squad that the last couple of seasons has been miles off the pace.
I still don't think we're far away at all from being comfortably back in the top 4. Despite all our problems last season and a woeful run of form we took Spurs and Liverpool all the way for the top 4, despite us not having a recognised goalscorer all season and they having the top two in the league between them,
    Have faith.

Okay well Savic and Boateng there is no need to discuss for this exercise, if we bring in Rugani I would be shocked if we brought either of them in.
AC & Rudiger are vital, Rugani would join them along with one of Luiz/Cahill(more probable) and have 4 CB's for 2 spots.
Luiz - Feels like he is going to be sold, potentially as a makeweight for Sarri. (even if not, he has shown he cant be trusted in a 4 man D)
Cahill - Hanging on, will always be last choice in a Sarri style (in this hypothetical Sarri is our manager) He can stay as the 4th choice then move on at the end of his contract or next summer.
Zouma - Has not played a role in Chelsea for a couple years (since that injury) Doesn't have the ball playing ability (yet) or the HG status. My guess is sold with a buyback or loaned out again. If it came down to Rugani or Zouma in a Sarri system I know who I would choose.
2 CB Slots AC/Rudiger/Rugani/Cahill even if we keep Luiz thats 4 solid options and Cahill for 2 spots. (Azpi for backup)

(obviously this is a giant hypothetical based on Sarri as our manager and my opinion on the players we do own, with the assumption Rugani is the CB that we purchase)

Does it make more sense though? Keeping Conte may look relatively risk free by comparison to other appointments on the face of it, but scratching the surface keeping him is probably the biggest risk we can take and all the evidence suggests it just simply isn't a risk worth taking. In Fact the arguments for keeping Conte and not appointing Sarri are alarmingly similar to the arguments that we should have kept Jose and not risked it with Conte, your first points were made numerous times in Jose's defense when his days looked numbered.
How many times at Chelsea or any club has things stagnated like they have with us and it got better again? City gave Pellegrini a chance to rectify a miserable title defense and they got even worse. Milan started well under Allegri, gave him ample chance to turn things round when things went stale, but they got worse. I can't think of one example of a manager who was great at the start, but things stagnated then got better again and given the history of this situation, Conte's stubbornness with his tactics and his constant fallings out with players and board members, all the evidence points to us getting worse if we keep him, not better.
He has basically replicated Wengers spell at Arsenal in two years (and skipping the 4th place finishes), first season he revolutionised the club and changed the way English teams play and approach things (like Wenger did in his Highbury days) then this season he has got caught up and overtook, just simply didn't have another reaction up his sleeve and has been left trailing his wake but had an FA Cup to get him out of jail (just like Wenger of 2014 onwards).
The reality is we will likely get worse if we keep Conte and we need to act before things seriously stagnate. I thank him for that amazing 16/17 season (it was genuinely up there with the back to back titles in terms of the sheer confidence i had in us) but the milk has gone stale.
Now onto the point with Sarri, yes he is a risk but he is a calculated one. Also judging managers on previous silverware is a bit of a moot points these days considering the two most decorated managers available are Ancelotti and Wenger, one gets repeatedly fired at top clubs for the same flaws and the other well enough said.
He may have won nothing yet but he has shown he can get teams competing playing great football on a short budget. We aren't as brassic as Conte and some of his apologists try and make out but we certainly are not competing with the Manchester clubs in the market any time soon. Conte has made it abundantly clear he isn't having that, Sarri is a big believer in developing players, the same way we are trying to play down the ability of some of our players playing in a system of Sarri's, Napoli fans were laughing hysterically at the thought of Koulibaly being made into a composed ball playing CB back in 2015. Appointing ready made managers for a title or two worked for a while, but if were looking at competing in the long run, we need to get a style implemented for two key reasons.
    1. The high pressing, all energy attacking style is becoming the way to go in the modern game just like the solid shape and counter was in the 00's. Despite finishing second United are looking in serious trouble and with the famous Mou third season coming up and all other top 6 having progressive managers next season, would you bet against them falling back down to 6th? or worse if he hysterically has another 15/16.
    2. Our academy sides play the type of game Sarri does. At the minute the disconnection between the first team and the academy in terms of play style is alarming, someone like Sarri coming in and bridging that gap will surely help in terms of the best youngsters progressing to the first team. The Academy is the one thing we have over the clubs that are/can spend more money than us, and at some point we have to make it count.
Even if Sarri last for two years and wins nothing, there's every chance he could still be key in transitioning us into a wonderful new era and for me he is absolutely worth the gamble.

Salah and KDB both play in attacking systems and their system isn't completely reliant on them alone. If they aren't in top form other players pick up the slack. That's the problem here. When Hazard isn't on his game there's no one to step in and our attack becomes a dead stick.
I can assure you that both have had dips in form this season you just didn't notice it because some other player would pick up the slack and their team would keep playing well and keep winning.
The moment Hazard gets a dip in form the entire team performance drops off massively.

Hazard literally carried us (offensively) to two titles... if you can’t see past the fact that the system is cancerous right now and that that’s affecting almost everyone’s general ability then I don’t know. I’m not really a Hazard fanboy, I just appreciate his talent. He’s one of the most talented attackers in the world. Why would you want to get rid of that instead of adding to it? He isn’t a number 10 either, he’s a wide playmaker. You should have a look at how many chances he’s set up for guys like Morata and Willian this season - he should have way more assists. This is just one example of how he’s way more than just a dribbler. If you think Hazard offers “nothing but dribbles” to the side then I don’t know man, don’t think it’s worth arguing. We’ll just agree to disagree pal.
When it comes to first 11 players and ability, Hazard is the least of our problems. It’s our failure to surround him with top players/system that actually allows him to maximise his talent that’s caused all this.
    Edit:
Chances created isn’t a great stat but it gives you some sort of overall picture... take a look at this:
Most chances created from open play since 14/15:
    Hazard - 324
    Ozil - 293
    Eriksen- 285
    Sanchez - 272
    Assists since 14/15:
    Ozil - 41
    Eriksen - 40
    Sanchez - 28
    Hazard - 21
Now, you really can’t say Hazard just dribbles.

He’s damaging the club? Not the board who have surrounded him (and others like Kanté) with average players? Put yourself in Eden’s position - I’m sure you would’ve left the club ages ago. The fact that he’s still here and even still thinking about staying shouldn’t be seen as a negative at all.

I don't get it, limited. Kante is world class at what he does, so is Messi as comparison. Ask Messi to do Kante's work, he becomes the worst player on the pitch. Ask Kante to play creative attacker and he becomes an eyesore. Ergo both have limitations at what they can do. Being limited does not equal not being world class or however you want to call, in the end it means among the best in the world. Like if he is among top 10 in all top leagues in his position, it is 'world class'. Somewhy it seems only attackers escape extra responsibilities and get branded the best by simply scoring goals, doesn't matter if they can't or don't want to do other work for the team (Ronaldo? Özil?). But when a defender or defensive mid has limitations going forward, they are disregarded by some. Those who don't agree, I challenge them to name 10 players better in Kante's role, go! Or if you get stuck, name 5. I personally would struggle naming even 1 since last season when he wasn't even that good with the ball yet.

So much overreaction today from TalkChelsea. Conte's lost it, Hazard deserves better teammates and will definitely be leaving, Bakayoko is trash...
Just a couple of matches ago Baka was great against Man United. Think people have to remember that he's still young, still adjusting to a new league and new team, and he's very raw. Conte wanted to keep Matic around for these very reasons. So he could ease Bakayoko in and not have to depend on him as an every single match player. Last season with Monaco was his first breakout season, remember.
It seems like a lot of people here and even more annoyingly people in the media thought we bought a ready made, top class player who would be a level above Matic instantly. Can always tell when fans of other clubs and the media haven't watched much of us when they say how poor Bakayoko has been this season. He's had far more good games than bad.
Thought Stevie G was actually pretty spot on in his analysis post match. Bakayoko seems a little unsure about what exactly he's supposed to be doing sometimes. Because of that his confidence can take a hit like it did today and he plays poorly. This is to be expected. He'll improve with more and more games. When to retreat deeper, when to bomb forward, when to carry the ball or when to pass it off.
I think Liverpool are the exact sort of side that will give him problems in his early days here. He's not great when pressed or when he's got to make super quick decisions. Conversely, we saw what he's capable of against a team that lets opponents have more time on the ball like United where he was a constant threat and menace.
So he had a poor match. Oh well. Not a disaster.
