He's basically the CM version of Mata. Mourinho tossed him aside but has been persisting with Fabregas. Go figure. On the other hand, one should ask Mourinho - has he even utilized Fabregas correctly? He worked brilliantly in the pivot last season but as we can see, he's now a major defensive liability playing in that area. So why hasn't JM tried something different, like play the 4-3-3 for example? That way, we'll be less exposed defensively and it allows Fabregas to concentrate on attacking rather than having to focus on both attacking and defending. He will also have another player in midfield to help him and Matic.

That's probably because he was tasked to sit back and play passes forward from deep. Ask him to get forward and play attacking passes, he will turn into a pussy, just like in the first half or his spineless defending for Newcastle's second goal.

That I can't disagree but we barely created any chances. We kept passing in/around the penalty area and hardly penetrate through that Newcastle defence. On top of that, we also kept lumping the ball up to him, which he was never going to win in the air against Coloccini. He wasn't great but the other players did him no favors either.

Even though Ramires is frustrating to watch at times, the one thing you can't fault him for is commitment/desire, which happens to be something that most of the pussies in the squad doesn't have.

The less said about the first half performance, the better. We were absolutely appalling in every aspect of the game. We did better in the second half when compared to the first but overall, it still isn't good enough really. We kept passing about but created very little (same old story). Only got back in the game because of one inspired moment from a player and a set piece. We were never going to score otherwise and the only real clear cut chance from open play was Pedro's 1-on-1 opportunity. That's really pathetic considering we can do so much better and the fact that Newcastle are a bad side.

To be fair, the shot looked like it was going wide. So, the decision is understandable. That being said, Kane scored a league hat-trick against Leicester last season and one of the goals was a deflected effort. If I remember correctly, that shot wasn't on target and yet, Kane got the goal and the Premier League didn't change it to an OG.
