Decent performance, important win - although it's owed to two moments of individual brilliance - and a clean sheet! Also credit to Conte for having the guts to drop Ivanovic (finally!) and bravery to try out different formations - unlike some of our previous managers - when things aren't going well. The only downside I'd say is despite our performance, we hardly created any clear cut chances to really trouble Hull. Got away with it today.

Time to re-start that FM14 save...
-
He can shift to a different formation if he wants to really but he's just obsessed with his 4-2-3-1. And let's not forget we're talking about a manager who didn't drop players when they played poorly last season.

Hull scored 1 against Arsenal and Liverpool in their last 2 matches. Wonder how many they'll score against us.

The squad only looks decent on paper to the fellas who don't watch us or have a clue about football. Our squad is just pathetic for a top club on paper and on the pitch. Take Hazard, Costa and Kante out of the side and we're nothing more than a mid-table club.

It's like he intentionally sold one of our better players to United knowing well he'll end up there one day...

The way some of you here are moaning about Conte and even asking for him to be sacked is farcical. Would make you people great candidates to replace Emenalo, Maria etc in the boardroom. Sure, Conte has made some mistakes in his reign but tell me, which managers do not make mistake? Even the best do. Conte deserves time to prove he can learn from mistakes and improve himself and he certainly deserves time considering how much he's being let down by the incompetent board and players. Conte isn't a manager we got from the lower leagues and has no experience at the highest level. He's a manager who has had big success in his two previous jobs and has pedigree and credibility to go with him. And here's the big question, if we sack Conte now, who the hell are we going to appoint? Call Hiddink again for his third stint? There's no top manager out there right now that's suitable for the job. If we continue to call for managers to be sacked the minute something goes wrong and actually sack him without proper backing, then we would forever be stuck in this cycle and would never get back to the elite level we were once in.

Give themselves enough time to search for a replacement. There's 2 international games coming up next week and another 2 in November.

He lasted long alright.

Good stuff from Klopp on MNF last night.

Skipper said 'young team' rather than a team of 'youngsters'. This has been mentioned many times before - the club wanted to play attacking, progressive football and they took the initiative to buy young and talented players to help achieve that style of play. But for some reason, they went and hired a manager whose style of play is the complete opposite of that and then allowed him to ruin their good work back then by selling those players and ending up with a bunch of braindead players. Regarding Mata, I'm finding it incredible that Mourinho barely played him here but is now playing him a lot at United.

Antonio Conte turn heat on 'spineless' Chelsea players during Arsenal defeat
-
Major myth there. Does a great disservice to players like Terry, who plays like his life depend on it!
-
To be fair, you don't have to care for Chelsea to be pissed at what's going on. Any manager would be furious with the way we're defending and the players are somewhat fortunate that Conte isn't entirely comfortable with English yet. Would have let ripped into them already if he was.
-
Compare to when we under Mourinho? Definitely. Under Mourinho, we were mostly waiting for things to happen rather than making things happen. But if you are still not convinced, then I'll give you that since it's still very early but you can't deny that Conte's Juventus and Italy didn't have similar traits about them.
-
Yes but even Conte wouldn't have been foreseen Cahill to commit suicide and give a stupid goal away. And given his unreliability - even more so of late - that could have happened if we had adopted a counter attacking approach. And mind you, that didn't work once when we lost 3-1 up there under Ancelotti. However, putting that aside for a moment, going a goal or two down is nothing new but the least you want to see is some character and fight back. We showed absolutely nothing to get back into it.
-
This might be silly but Conte's body language has been extremely negative in the Liverpool and Arsenal games. I know we were rubbish and played poorly but he was just standing on the touchline, 'wearing' that glum and beaten look. It's such a huge contrast to when we were winning - he was constantly barking orders at the players, encouraging them etc. It's as if the loss to Liverpool or even the draw at Swansea has knocked the wind out of him. He has just looked flat in the last few games.
-
The performance is just as important as the tactics. If the players don't turn up, then there's no point to the tactics. Hiddink managed to get the players to respond from time to time and the Arsenal game was one of them. Unfortunately, they didn't repeat it today. And after we went 2-0 down, did you even any point have confident that we'll come back to the game? We hardly threatened at all besides those missed chances from Willian.
-
That's because we defended well into those 2 games despite all the defensive issues and they had players sent off. But this time, we didn't. That said, Conte could have taken a different approach and it wouldn't have mattered because barring Costa, the players weren't up for it.

Think BimV and Tomo hit the nail on the head above but I would also like to add that we saw glimpses of what he wants this side to be like against West Ham, Burnley and Swansea. We dominated those games, we controlled them and we played a high energy, high intensity, pressing game. Those traits were drilled into his Juventus and Italy (okay, not dominate and control but certainly there was plenty of energy and intensity in them) and I'm sure given the time and players (if he's fortunate), he will drill the same into this team.
-
TBF Tomo, you can't expect anything else when the players are performing rubbish defensively and giving goals away cheaply.
