That's the problem. IF Hazard and Costa don't keep up their form, then we are in trouble. City and United have depth and the players to come in and do the job if others aren't performing. We don't. And for the record, I never implied anything about 'getting the best players will win you the league'. It's just that City and United have way more quality than us at the moment.

Maybe but what happened last season with Leicester is a one off and City and United have raised the bar this season, with the signings, squad depth and manager too.

Good enough to finish in the top 4 but not quite good enough to win the title. There are still issues to be resolved in defence, midfield and attack.

He's not wrong there but on another note, if he's really tired of the loans, then why didn't he force the issue and tell the club he wants to leave?

Baba is now one of those players who gets better because we tossed him aside.

To be fair, I think what this squad needs right now is an experienced and competent player, not a young player who's still developing and finding his feet in the league. That probably sound harsh but given the current state of our defence, we certainly need someone who can come in and do a job immediately. Now, I'm not saying Alonso is a great player but he knows the league and has developed himself in a league that takes great pride in defence and tactics - two things that Conte value highly and it says a lot that majority, if not all, our summer defensive targets were players from Serie A. Another plus I guess with Alonso is that he's versatile enough to play in different positions and having played and learned in a tactical-heavy league, one would think he's good enough for Conte to utilize and try out different systems.

Seems like we have a few decent FK takers now in the squad - Willian, Oscar, Fabregas, Luiz, Hazard and Alonso. Not too bad.
