Like I said, it depends on the situation. Obviously if it comes to the shirt numbers like No.8, No.26, No.25, then the club will be strict with it and be the ones making the final decision. Otherwise, the club will give the choice to the players to select their favorite number.

While I don't necessarily disagree with that, what would be the case for Mourinho to drop Azpi, a player who had performed consistently last season and one who had been praised on more than one occasion by Mourinho himself. Granted, the points you mentioned above does give Ivanovic the advantage over Azpi but on the other hand, the latter provides a tad more going forward and never mind being cautious or defensive in certain matches, some times that bit of quality in going forward from your FBs could help turn a game in your team's favour.

Gosh. Have we actually started forcing our new signings to say they have been supporting Chelsea? Nearly all of our signings these days seem to be saying "I love Chelsea", "My favorite player is Lampard", "I have watched Chelsea a lot" or things along those lines. What they say may be genuine but on the other hand, it kinda feels like WTH!

This situation is a farce. One minute he's heading to Arsenal, the next he's coming and now he wants to stay in Madrid. Just WTH!

That is true and logically, we can just play Azpi at RB since his lack of height will be compensated by others but given the nature of Mourinho's teams in the past, I'm not absolutely certain that is going to happen. Just like most here, I desperately want to see Azpi at RB but Mourinho might just persist with Ivanovic in that position.

Problem is, there are reasons why Ivanovic has been preferred at RB (even if we had our issues at LB last season, thus playing Azpi in that position). Playing Ivanovic adds height into the team and gives option to Cech to boot the goal kicks to in those situations. It has helped us to retain possession and build attacks from time to time through that.

Now that we've got Filipe Luis, will be interesting to see whether Mourinho will play Azpi at RB or he continues with Ivanovic.
