Spon on, except the wages part - he needs to drop his wages by 1/3(100k-ish) to be a safe signing.
-
The reason he was shuffled is because clearly his game suffers when leading the line and things don't go his way, even when he was scoring a load of goals leading the United attack the rest of his game suffered. You can ask I have watched a lot of United matches over the last few years - the ideal person to lead our attack was in a Cavani/Zlatan mold not Wayne Looney. Looney's best position is Mata's best position - behind a player who would hold up the ball and allow Looney to be involved with the build up and will have the capability of receiving the ball distributing it and then moving forward. Wayne has been shifted around due to Saha; Ronaldo; RvP - according to most of the United supporting mates his best season was 2009/2010 as well, a season where he was United's creative outlet and goal scorer, he played a bit with Berbatov that year and even though that particular partnership didn't work out in the end Mitko was the one who was usually closer to the goal that year for United while Rooney was closer to the midfield. Previous season when United had Berbatov/Ronaldo/Tevez/Rooney it was Ronaldo/Tevez usually further forward and moving to the wings while Berbatov and Rooney were more withdrawn and provided the link up play with the midfield. 2011/2012 Season was the season when he was played as a lone forward - he scored a lot of goals that year but United's overall shape suffered because they were so used to having a player like Looney providing the link between attack and midfield. They dropped out of the CL Groups by finishing in 3rd place; they failed to do well in the other Domestic Cups and lost title on the very last match of the season. The following year RvP was bought despite United already having the pure scorer Looney

I'm not talking about other England players, I'm just saying that even if when was fit he would underperform for England. He is the main man, Lampard/Gerrard have underperformed because they have been played together and that hurts both their games specially Lampards. Beckham is overrated, John Terry is a defender and England's issue has not been the defense but the lack of a World Class defensive midfielder and not enough balance and ability to keep the ball. Looney is part of the problem because he has been picked for England despite always being awful for the NT(apart of his debut), the other problem is that Looney would be more effective if he was played in the position Gerrard and Lampard play because he would be more involved in the build up and won't have to be marooned between two defenders. Looney is a better "10" than a "9" and he doesn't seem to realize it, he should not be playing as a lone forward in England or us/United/
-
Looney has been crap for England since his debut on the Euros, anyone who denies that simply doesn't watch the English NT often. He has never turned up for a Tournament after the Euros and he is constantly showing his worst attributes while playing for England. Not worth over 30 million pounds and 200k per week wages, United won't sell to us, move on. I expect him to flop if he ever leaves United, he only has around 2-3 more years of top football in him.
-
To be fair that's isn't hard to do and certainly shouldn't be Eto'o's goal if he comes here
-
Well I would prefer we have an experienced player to take some responsibility off Lukaku's shoulders, if Eto'o takes a much lower wage than he is currently making(lets say 100k p/w max) and at maximum he is happy with a 1 or 2 year contract with options to extend - I would like him here. As I have mentioned else where after Cavani/Lewa/Falcao didn't pan out - I wanted us to bring Zlatan over to secure the EPL title, since there is no links to Zlatan at this current time Eto'o is another good short term measure. He might not have been playing at a top level in the past 2 years but provided he hasn't gain 20 pounds he should be physically; technically proficient for the EPL - besides Eto'o has far superior movement than 99% of strikers and I very much doubt he would have forgotten how to find himself in good positions.

Your opinion states that Torres is not at fault, mine states that if we had a capable striker who didn't have the statistics of mostly loosing the ball; having low passing success %; failed to end up in goal scoring position; failed to pressure defenders inside the box; failing to score one on one chances; failing to have MOTM performances in big matches; failing to score tap ins because he is outside the box; failing to not occupy position which Mata/Lampard/Hazard get into hampering their movement we would have finished higher and finishing higher would mean we challenged for the title. The same argument could be made in reverse would Barca be a better team without Messi - do you expect them to win more points or less Would Real be better without Ronaldo - do you expect them to win more points or less Would Tottenham finished higher without Bale - do you expect them to win more points or less Would United win the title without RVP - do you expect them to win more points or less A lot of teams have a clear top player in our case, currently it's Mata if we didn't have Mata last season I would confidently state we would have finished outside the top four, because he is match changer - big matches small matches it doesn't matter he is the full package. The same is applied in the opposite spectrum to Torres.
-
Had we won 3 of the matches we failed to do by a one goal margin(plenty of which were 0-0 draws btw) - we would have hope for the title come May. QPR we finished 0-0, Torres played 80 minutes did nothing. Swansea we finished 1-1, Torres wondered around for 90 minutes. Liverpool we finished 1-1, Torres was actually still playing for Liverpool that match judging by his performance Man City we finished 0-0, once again Torres put on his Ghost costume for 90 minutes Fulham we finished 0-0, nothing meaningful from Torres yet again QPR lost 1-0, not a hope in the World cause Mr. Torres plays 90 again Reading draw 2-2, no goal Newcastle lose 3-2, yet again no goal Liverpool, Tottenham should I mention those two gems 2-2 with yet again Torres getting 180 minutes and doing jack Tell me how many of those matches might have been effected if we actually had a capable striker up top who didn't either do his best to sabotage his team mates or went into ghost mode. I'm not saying we would have won the League without Torres I'm saying if we had a capable striker instead like Lukaku; Sturridge we would have been challenging at the very least till April and if we had a World Class one like RvP we would have won.
-
We had 25 matches that we either Won; Drew or Lost with a ONE GOAL MARGIN a striker that actually takes a shot or finishes one of the chances he creates for himself might have not only put us in contention for the title last season but it might have made us Champions. Because even games that were won by a ONE GOAL MARGIN are usually down the the wire and players like Mata; Hazard can not be subbed off for some rest for future matches. If he had done the job for which he was signed - putting the ball in the back of the net we would not have had to battle for the last spot in the CL but instead would have been in our rightful spot over the last decade as challengers - the rest of the squad was more than capable. Also tell me when he has produced the goods in a big match in the EPL? A performance like Lukaku against United; Sturridge against us and Man City you know a Man of the Match performance with big contribution something that top strikers do on a regular basis
-
Yep and who exactly is scoring goals to beat those teams - right we are lacking a striker and playing with 10 men for the majority of the campaign. There is nothing Jose can do to offload Torres, otherwise he would have offloaded Kaka while at Real Madrid. If Torres had done his job - scoring goals, we would have been challenging for the title in the League. When your striker's major contribution is loosing the ball and playing for the opposition it's convenient to blame RdM(who wasn't the one that chose Torres) and it certainly isn't the Fat Spanish Waiter who was just an appointment by the board to give Torres one last chance to recapture some form. When you are an unemployed Fat Spanish Waiter and some guys offer you a part time job you take it for some money cause being Fat and Spanish is tough
-
No one wants Torres, if they did he would have been sold long time ago. He alone was the difference between us challenging for the title and scrapping for forth last season. A striker that scored 1 goal in 321 minutes on the field for us in the EPL last season and his goals are against some of the worst sides, with the only quality opposition he scored against were Everton and Arsenal virtually any other goal he scored was against Relegation threatened teams. In about 1/3 of the playing time Sturridge scored 11 goals in the EPL, managed to be MOTM against US and Manchester City and scored another goal against United. Lukaku managed a hat trick last season against United and scored a goal at a higher rate than RvP and Suarez in a lesser team. Meantime Torres struggles with virtually the two best chance creators in the Premier League - Mata and Hazard
-
People need to just accept it for a 175k p/w player we got Di Santo/Carlton Cole level striker on our hands, could be decent in the Championship. Over 80 matches in the League with 14 goals that says it all. I'd literally take Feruz ahead of Torres in a big game at least its an unknown quantity - with Torres we know what to expect a mental midget who can only score when there is no pressure.
-
He is the best option out of the three strikers we have - give him a run in the squad and if he doesn't find the back of the net as a striker use him as an impact player. As it currently stands he should be starting against Hull if he manages to score in that match he might get the run he deserves
-
Because Arsenal have not been rivals with MU since the days of the Henry. Because Arsenal had a wage structure which made them unable to keep their best players Because Arsenal's board prefered cash rather than holding onto RvP and not strengthening their rivals United didn't even want to sell a squad player like Heinze to Liverpool, the RvP saga says more about Arsenal's ambition than it says about any dealings with United in relevance to the Looney saga.
-
Anything above 20 million for Looney is ridiculous unless he takes a pay cut. If he really does want a new "challenge" and this isn't about money and status he should accept a lower wage. No club other than us is interested due to the huge wages they would need to pay for an overweight scouse cunt. I have nothing against Looney the footballer but we already bought one high profile flop whose best days are behind him, Looney doesn't represent a good long term investment - unlike Cavani/Lewa etc.
-
He has some loyalty bonus which he would loose if he hands in a transfer request, greedy little scouse cunt - he is not worth 30 million pounds with those astronomical wages unless United agree to take Torres.
-
The way I see it the bid for Cesc, is for United to signal one of it's current players who signed a new contract one and a half years ago for much more than should have been offered that he is not irreplaceable and if he doesn't buckle down and play for the team in his best position they will sign a replacement and sell him. Now Looney has two choses wait for the bid and leave(but United will want a lot of money to sell him to a rival and Barca/Real etc don't seem to be making bids or showing interest) or he buckles down and accepts to keep his ego in check for the time being. The fact that they insinuated to journalist close to the club that Mata was part of the deal is further information leading to such a conclusion. If they do sell, I expect them to do it after they get a similar in quality player for midfield to make them tick.
-
I feel we got no chance to sign him anyway unless United buy Cesc who is going to Looney's direct replacement in their setup behind the striker providing the final ball and scoring goals from deeper than RvP. I don't see Cesc leaving Barca and frankly there are not too many "10" that they can buy instead(interesting their lot throwing around Mata's name to the media)
-
Supposedly Benzema was this type of player but it didn't work Teams would defend deep when we had Drogba up top; teams in Italy would defend deep when Eto'o or Milito were playing for Inter It doesn't matter if what we have up top is good enough. At United and England I've never felt that's Looney's best position is leading the line - give him something to work off and be able to do his thing. He was playing just fine behind RvP when fit but his ego cannot be matched - threatens to leave club because they lack ambition when they sign a big name player to compete for the spot light throws a hissy fit. If Jose gets him that's all fine and dandy to me since he seems to really want him but I won't be too excited by this signing I feel that we got a superiour player to play in Looney's best position - Mata
-
I don't like the Looney mania, this is a guy who is best suited to play behind the striker. In fact I feel he will have a diminished return as a striker because that position doesn't best utilize his main assets; muscling through; having great vision and passing capability also up top he can't dwell on the ball and make the best decision. When he was playing up top for United his other qualities were diminished and his overall impact on the shape of the team was effected. If we didn't have Mata I'd be inclined to take this "ego" on as a an option up top in case of emergency but mainly in that "10" position. Since day one I don't think this is transfer we need and Lukaku could provide as much up top as Looney does.
-
Both Luiz and Mata are worth way more than the fat scouse ****; first of all both are younger; second of all both are about 50% of Looney's current wages; 3rd of all they were actually key players in our last two season while Looney fell out with SAF I bet we offered money and journalists close to United were told to run with this story to unsettle our best defender and our best player. Only player for whom we can swap Looney is Floppes and maybe 10-20million pounds - just so we don't have to pay both Looney and Floppes wages. Expect Jose to deny any such offers later today after our friendly match
-
I hope we go for Zlatan instead of Looney, he still has at least two top class seasons in him and would absolutely dominate the EPL. Imagine we play Zlatan for 60 minutes, he gets tired of bullying and tossing around the EPL defenders - we decide to sub him out and you can see the defenders sign of relief until they see him hugging Kraken and telling him to finish the job. If PSG are open to such offers to get him off the wage bill a 3 year contract and maybe 10-15 million fee is in order. We saw what United got last season buying an established striker in his prime to lead their attack. Zlatan has won Titles with 8 different clubs I think he might want to enhance his reputation by winning a few more in the EPL.
-
Forget Rooney he could prove a blunder of Torres proportion
-
Rooney, what a load of crap I'd take Benteke over Rooney every day of the week if those are our options.
-
Excellent signing, now I won't feel as nervous when Cech isn't at goal Welcome Mark!
