what games have you been watching? Torres definitely played well for most of the di Matteo part of the season problem is he can't link up with Sturridge, Malouda, Drogba... only plays well with Mata and decent with Kalou and Meireles, perhaps Lampard yes he is partly to blame for not having adapted maybe but he hasn't exactly been helped by the players around him, and add to that the manager haven't had much confidence in him even when being in good form hopefully we'll see a different Torres next season

I'm saying them two can do a good enough job in that role, would we not employ Modric as a DM or where would he play exactly? just not buying the idea of him being a player who would be the difference between winning or losing big games for us

I don't rate Modric and don't see why we should be interested in him... we still have Mikel and Romeu ideally we would sell Mikel for a good price and promote Romeu but it seems very uncertain if he'll be here next season. anyway there are much cheaper options that would probably deliver just as much as Modric and could suit us better.....how much they reckon he's worth on the transfer market, £30, £40M?
