  1. Best possible news - we will have a player fully rested during the summer and be able to begin pre season preparations immediately. He will also have the bit between his teeth and a point to prove from this snub - the germans have a tendency to bounce back well from adversity and disappointment.
  2. Firstly i can't see united moving rooney up front, his best position seems to be that deeper role where he can get involved. Secondly he could play with mata in a 4-2-3-1 formation. With the right players the '3' could be a fluid unit, moving positions and roaming regularly between eachother, particularly if we plan to play more expansive next season.
  3. We've got marin for the left wing position so i just cannot see this move happening. I think he was probably someone in our minds before securing marin, with the press being slow to report as usual.
  4. My two cents for what it's worth. Those against the proposed move, including the CPO need to appreciate the evolution of the football club. A lot of people are going on about the soul and history of stamford bridge - we are always quick to ridicule Liverpool fans for banging on about their history, and we are correct to because history is memories and they'll never go away but the real emotions are from the present and future. Stamford Bridge will always hold great memories but the club must evolve. The concerns regarding a 'soul-less' stadium should also be dismissed. We could well be building a new stadium on the heartland of one of London's great hallmarks. Also the club's board get a lot of bad feeling from us fans, and sometimes justified, but they have listened to fans in regards to the proposed one tier south stand which will create a truly epic and intimidating backdrop to the stadium that the bridge cannot create. And finally, the soul and atmosphere comes from us fans anyway - that is one of the things that falls as our responsibility.
  5. Fuck the Euros for England, if he scores the winner in the Champs League final he'll have us Chelsea fans kissing his arse for the rest of his life!
  6. I had never really seen much of this kid, but have just watched a few videos and clips of him and he looks very good. I still have a preference for us to go for Hulk and will stand by that. However if the club are wanting to change tact with the style of football played then Kagawa would be a very good addition. We have really over-relied on Mata's creativity this season and at times unfortunately, Mata has been seen to be on a completely different wavelength to his teammates through no fault of his own. This is the type of player who could easily play neat one-two's and strike up an excellent understanding with Mata in the opponents third of the pitch. I have also been impressed recently with the club's ability to get good value within the transfer market by moving for players with contracts expiring. Cahill has proven to be a shrewd signing for £7m and Marin will also hopefully prove similar good value. If Kagawa is available for less than £10m as is being reported then we should be pursuing him. the icing on the cake is his reputation as the superstar of Japan and the increased publicity and reputation we would gain throughout the Asian market. That in itself is highly lucrative and would comfortably pay his transfer fee and wages.
  7. A lot of clubs have voiced their complaints to UEFA under this deal. If UEFA don't prevent it, I can see a huge amount of loopholes used to bypass these rules, possibly us included. How long is the stadium deal? 10 years? Even so, £40m a year still won't get them into operating profit.
  8. I actually meant 2006/07 under Jose. But on the double winning campaign we still had Lampard, Anelka, Malouda and Kalou who I think all managed double figures. That is my point. I would rather have a team where the goals are shared out, as opposed to a over-reliance on one main player, á la Arsenal and Van Persie.
  9. A player like Hazard being available on the market this summer is a massive plus for us. He has already said he wants to come to England and reportedly all the top teams want him. Whilst they play tug-of-war to get him, we have the opportunity to pick up other targets hopefully at a very good price because of the lack of competition for his signature. Yes, Hazard is a fantastic talent, but he is not the only excellent player out there of his ilk, yet because of the exposure he has received he will be one of the most expensive both in terms of transfer fee and wages. There is also no guarantee that he will settle in England or reach his undoubted potential. Not even buying proven premiership players can guarantee success. I trust that the board this summer will buy the players to improve our squad. IMO this won't include Hazard but we may unearth a gem who proves every bit as effective as Hazard for a fraction of the price. Have faith people.
  10. We won two league titles under Mourinho without a specialist goalscorer. Then ironically the year Drogba scored a ton of goals we didn't win the league. It's nice to have a player who bangs 20+ goals a season but it doesn't guarantee success. A club will naturally become psychologically more reliant on that player if he is consistently firing, and the problem that creates is it becomes easier, in particular for the big teams, to sht a team down. The biggest case in point is us against Messi and Barcelona. I would rather us have a central striker who can score 15 goals and then another 2-3 players who can chip in with 8-10 goals each as opposed to one striker who can bang in 25-30 goals.
  11. Unfortunately it's a case of another player that we have kept hold of for too long. As a result we have been forced to frustratingly watch his decline and a player who should be fondly remembered for what was a hugely significant contribution in our double winning season could also now very easily be remembered for 18 months of almost non-existence.
  12. Both Carlo and Jose are right. Drogba 'eats alive' his competition. We don't get the best out of either IMO when they are playing together. I love Drogba for what he has done for the club, and he deserves his moment of destiny in the Champs league final and hopefully signs off on a high, but he needs to leave this summer to allow Torres to flourish. And Torres does not need a strike partner, he simply needs support. HOWEVER, we need a plan for the Champs League final because Sturridge, Kalou and Malouda are not good enough, and playing a 4-2-3-1 will mean we have to pick two from this shambles!
  13. Don't envisage buying him now we have Marin. I still expect us to move for a more expensive, 'marquee' type attacker such as Hulk, Hazard mould to play alongside Marin and Mata.
  14. I said after the Napoli victory that I felt we would win the Champions League and Torres would come off the bench to score the winner. I still believe that will happen, and without building ourselves up, I feel it would be reward for the unwavering support we have given him in his most difficult moments on the pitch. But saying that, a winner against the scouse scum in the final this weekend would also be very tasty and poetic justice for the abuse they've given him for wanting to further his career!
  15. I find it interesting that Marin has come out today and talked about his discussions with Robbie prior to making the move. Robbie outlined his vision for the club, both short and long term, and Marin lapped it up. Also with all the talk that Robbie has had input and been told to keep himself available for the club's pre season arrangements, he has to be at the forefront of the minds of the board. I agree with many, the club cannot lose if they give him a year contract to show what he is capable of over the course of a full season. If he proves as successful as he has this season give him an extension further down the line. If he doesn't then we can let him leave at the end of next season for no compensation and Roman can bring in Guardiola, fresh from a break, again for no compensation. Another thing to consider with the FFP rules is that Robbie is apparently only on £1.2m pa. If we were to increase it to even £2-2.5m, his wages would still be massively lower than the big names out there.
  16. Champions League final - Cech Bosingwa/Ferreira Cahill David Luiz Cole Mikel Essien Lampard Mata Torres Drogba That would be the way to incorporate our best players into the side for the final, given the suspensions. However I agree it is a huge risk, but perhaps one we may need to do. The FA Cup final will be interesting. If Torres scores again against Newcastle, does Robbie stick with him or bring back in the man who has a legendary goalscoring record at Wembley and in domestic cup finals?!
  17. Agreed the board, Emenalo and whoever else is behind our transfer policy deserve a lot of credit for our transfer business over the last couple of seasons, and based on that evidence, I'm fully confident they'll get it right again next season. The club cannot just get rid of everyone over 30 in one hit and bring in 10 new players. They know rebuilding is required but it has already begun. The signings of Ramires, David Luiz, Romeu, Courtois, Lukaku, Mata, De Bruyne, Cahill and even Torres have slowly provided us with a backbone of a team which will form a new era at Chelsea over the next few years and beyond. The Marin deal backs this up. Have faith and I firmly believe the majority of us will be happy with the squad we have come August.
  18. Outstanding prospect. I fully expect the first wave of youngsters to come through over the next two summers, including the likes of McEachran, Kakuta, Bertrand, De Bruyne, Courtois and Lukaku. The most promising aspect is that we have another group of outstanding players to come through over the next season or two after that including Feruz, Piazon, Ake and of course Chalobah, and then the next group again after that, including the very highly rated Loftus-Cheek. Over the next 3-5 years people will finally see the worth to the club's youth academy.
  19. I would love Hazard, I think he is fantastic and will become a world class player at a bigger club. However if it comes down to a straight choice for the same money between him and Hulk then I would choose Hulk. A lot of people will not agree with me, I know, but I just feel that Hazard will bring more of what we will already have in Mata and Marin. Hulk's brute strength and power, coupled with his pace, would add something completely different to the side which improves the blend of attacking talent we would possess. However if Hazard proves to be the man we get, I certainly won't be complaining!
  20. Excellent stuff from Torres, the movement and finish of his first and third particularly impressive and pleasing. He looks confident now, and Drogba seems to be having the fire burning inside of him aswell - it bodes really well for the final five games of the season! But I think just as important for the run in was Mata's performance today. I know it was only QPR, and quite frankly they're shite, but he was at the forefront of everything today. The pitch and conditions were awful for his playing style and they tried to rough him up but couldn't get anywhere near him. The Mata/Torres partnership I think will seriously reap dividends next season.
  21. I'm pretty sure we are going to go all out to buy Hulk. Don't ask me why, just a feeling he's the one the club have wanted for 2-3 years and finally Porto seem prepared to sell him for something like a respectable fee.
  22. I'm almost certain that Marin won't be the ONLY attack minded player we sign this summer. I fully expect 4-5 signings for the first team squad.
  23. I did think that the other day. If Drogba were to sign on another year to allow us to send Lukaku out on loan to get games. Then Drogba can leave next summer and we'll have Lukaku back having played a season in the Premiership and ready to challenge Torres to start for the team. It would save a lot of money and prevent hindering the development of Lukaku. You do however wonder though if Drogba is playing as well as he is because in his mind he is leaving, and intent on winning the Champions League to sign off. Just to note, ESPN said that there were Chelsea scouts in the crowd for Roma vs Napoli last night - Cavani scored a very good goal.
  24. Ramires is a much better box to box midfielder as opposed to a winger and Sturridge will not play another season out wide. I think if Robbie stays then Kalou may well stay on. Not sure if KDB will stay or be loaned out? If Malouda goes we'll be left with Kalou, Marin, KDB and Kakuta. I think we need a more experienced, starting wide man to complement this.
