In fact, had he praised AVB, the story would never have even been published because that's not what everyone wants to hear. Of course AVB was part of the problem, he was the manager! He had many faults and made mistakes, but his "poor man-management skills" was not one of them. He tried to change things around here and naturally there will be people who oppose change.

Ironically, I think the perfect player to partner Mikel in the pivot would be someone like Josh, but of course he doesn't cost 30m so he won't be given a proper chance. Not saying that Josh is better than Jack; Wilshere is currently miles ahead, but he best deployed in a three-man midfield, imo.

So a "nobody" youngster tells the press what they want to hear as the only way to get his name in the paper and get some attention. Sounds credible.. Like mentioned above, I would like to hear AVB's side of the story before I judge.

Well, to me, all the evidence is for Mikel yet you chose to ignore it. But I can admit that I might be horribly wrong about him and you completely wrong, but atm, no one has been able to convince me of that. The board seem to agree with me on Mikel since we just gave him a 5 and half year deal. But you're lucky I'm not on the board, you'd probably get players like Dawson and Wigan's McCarhy!

In the typical meaning of the word "outstanding" meaning much better than his usual performances, I don't think he did. It was a typical great performance by Mata, imo.

It was typical Mata performance, but people tend to judge players' performance through individual moments like that amazing touch before De Gea's save, which is why people are saying he had an outstanding game.

Think he means Luke Shaw. Who would be the most likely future addition from the players he mentioned. On Wilshere, fantastic player, but he's won't leave Arsenal and definitely not for us.

How so? All my comments have been about Mikel. I never called anyone delusional, short-sighted, or any of the usual "arguments" used in here. Sounds convincing except it's factually incorrect. I must have made over 50 posts in this thread debating with members who criticize Mikel and I always come up with arguments. Whether you wish to agree with them or not is your right. I never praised Mikel for his performance yesterday, in fact I said it was below his standard level of performance! My argument does not depend on one performance because yesterday was not a one-off game for Mikel, but since he came off the bench in the middle of the game, you could very clearly see how much better the team is when Mikel is there to provide balance and give people license to go forward like I've been saying he does in this thread. It's not because his performance yesterday was outstanding, but because yesterday you got a chance to see the team with and without Mikel. In reality, it was just a typical Mikel performance. I agree that he maybe should have been more dominant in the air (which has been a problem since his injury, really) but the reason I blamed Luiz is that you can see from one of the replay angle that he clearly ducked under the ball in the last second which threw Petr off. Though it could be that the reason he ducked was that he got a shout a from Cech which would make it 100% Cech's fault.

It depends on your defense, really. Jose played on the counter all his time here, but we had the best defense in the world back then. But I don't think Rami should be a starter in 4-2-3-1 if we had a proper central midfielder.
