But Torres has rarely been played with Mata (when he was he played well). He seems to be constantly teamed with Lampard and Malouda.

Eh it was a joke, I always stick up for Kalou...ask anyone on here. We did pay 50M and his name is Torres so therefore I will be pissed off when he's not given a chance as he has been a worldclass stiker and hes not going to find form on the bench. What happens when the African players head off....oh come on Fernando you haven't played all season but nows your chance to find form under even more pressure. No thanks. Stupid statement to make IMO.

Your blatant cheering for a Chelsea player to fail is quite sickening honestly. Wise cracks and sarcasm to try and hide your hate don't help.

Some of the replies in this thread are total bollocks.
Drogba had a fantastic game yesterday, fully deserved from him. It's not fair that this excellent Drogba performance overshadows Torres' excellent performances this season. Someone has to be the scapegoat when things are going wrong. And writing a player off has shown why you shouldn't (Terry, Lampard and Drogba).
Both strikers have had poor games this season, and that is not really down to them. I said in a previous post that it was the midfield that was the problem. Our more dynamic midfield of Romeu/Ramires/Meirieles has allowed Mata to get even more involved and with Sturridge, they are providing good options down the flanks allowing Drogba to benefit greatly. I would like to see how Torres fairs with this but It's good to keep with a winning team so Drogba should be starting.
Torres has been a sub for the last few games. I don't think it's fair to judge him as a substitute. He has still gotten himself in a decent position to receive a pass from Sturridge and Sturridge becomes greedy. How can you blame Torres for that? He could have had more goals this season if Sturridge, for all his good work, had not been so wasteful when he's gotten himself into excellent positions. Torres would thrive off Mata but his opportunities with him playing have been limited.
He deserves some criticism, but most of it is unjust. Everyone was crap in that Carling Cup game, we deserved to lose it. We should be thankful to have two of the world's greatest strikers on our team. The Drogba v Torres argument is ridiculous. Both offer something completely different up front, and both on their day contribute well to the team.

i can think of many matches where torres tore up the opposition, sunderland, swansea, man utd, valencia, genk, just to name a few, and with all the new signings and tactics, it was going to take awhile before everyone settled in, even when drogba was our CF some games it looked TERRIBLE (and dont say otherwise)...
now we have mata getting more and more used to the system and danny making those blistering runs, along with now our mostly settled starters in midfield that el nino never had then when everyone was trying to settle...
i still remember torres having like 15 minutes against newcastle and having an assist and could of had a goal if danny would pass which he only seems to do when didier is in...
    i just dont get it...
has he performed like we all dreamt? no...
is he done for this club yet? no...

Drogba seems to have this unique charm and ability to perform brilliantly in one match and make people completly forget that for the last 16 months he has either been under average or just complete crap.

They really are a malicious, hypocritical, sycophantic and self-important lot, and a major reason for hoping the football bubble finally bursts.

When we slate Torres lack of goals our other forwards have hardly been lighting up the world since he arrived either, since El Nino's arrival Anelka has only scored 3 goals and Drogba has only got 2 (mabye 3) so its obviously runs deeper than Torres just being "finished".

It's easy (and possibly fair) criticizing the club in hindsight but back when the move happened you could count the sceptical forum users on the fingers of one hand.

Yeah, that's it. Dzeko woke up one day and said "I'm going to take down names and kick ass" and poof, six goals. Nothing else has happened at City.

I must ask for a raise...
Or maybe it's because we've seen him at this best and know what he can do? And hope that he can return to it?

You know he had knee surgery 8 weeks before the first game right? Take it up with Del Bosque why he played Torres.

I agree re that match when SB was like a bear pit and the media hounding that followed only added to this and took the pressure off Liverpool who seem to have taken wing from the destruction of his career and reputation. The reality is that the problem appears to be more psychological than physical. He's always been a player who has constructed a view of himself based on loyalty and playing for the underdogs which led him to reach his mid twenties without any club trophies. Despite his claims that romance is dead in the game he doesn't seem able to recover from the deconstruction of his personal mythology. In a strange way his intelligence seems to be hindering him. The man obviously thinks too much. He needs some of Rooney's animal force and lack of reflection as these are the qualities that are of value on the pitch. If he doesn't sort it out this is going to remain a big problem for Chelsea.

I think the main problem stems from the very start of his Chelsea career, the Liverpool match, he should not have played or been near the team that match, it was too much. Maybe if we had Liverpool in April, May after he has been with us a few months and scored a few times but it was that match that killed his confidence IMO. He was getting kicked about all game and had a shocker. Fulham away would have been the perfect time to introduce him playing him in the Pool match was criminal.

The Dzeko situation gives me some hope too, he had time to gel, and now has Silva, Nasri and Aguero helping him out. We have Mata and if we get a Modric/Sneijder before the end of the window watch the difference. Torres is a great striker , but needs some more service and balls to be delivered to him. I mean we all know how hopeless our wingers have been and how we've lacked creativity - these don't just impact the wingers/midfielders as well all know but the strikers too. Guess we're just spoiled with Drogba who has sometimes shown he doesn't need anybody, besides he played with Lampard in his prime and did have more service/help than what we have provided Torres. He's the shadow of himself and sometimes I feel he's is looking to pass to Drogba even though he's on the bench! A creative midfielder is needed and Mceachran and Mata (goes without saying) need to be used more.
EDIT: Forgot about Davilla, hope he gets some chances. Really excited about him. Kakuta should be given some too. Those two can definitely far better the Kalouda.

I think Torres is a better striker than Dzeko yet Mancini has managed to fit him into a style of play that suits Dzeko's strengths and the squad's. I don't see that with Torres whether he's playing good or shit. The style still seems to be we're Chelsea of 2-3 years ago when we were in our prime and we're still going to play the same way no matter what. The Chelsea time machine has not changed.
Torres at his best is playing with the ball QUICKER, not slower, not sideways, not backwards, forwards and quicker. For God's sake, Torres played at Kuyt at Liverpool who has the touch of a tree trunk. BUT Kuyt (and others) played quickly and played forward. Torres could create something out of nothing even at Liverpool. The difference he received the ball sooner and was able to attack quicker. Now, defenders everywhere know Chelsea will receive the ball in the middle of the park, pass it backwards, sideways, and maybe then go forward. It's too predictable and too stagnant.

Torres seems to be a jinxed player. He was fantastic at Atletico and in his first two years at Liverpool but, whatever his physical state at the moment, his confidence seems to have been completely eroded by the media shitstorm surrounding his move to Chelsea and I can't see things getting any better. The press are unlikely to let things go unless he scores braces and hattricks in every game and it looks like yet another barren season for him. Sad to see all that brilliance erased but he appears to have fallen out of love with football and the move to Chelsea just doesn't seem to have taken fire. Thank God for Mata who appears to be as resilient as he is dynamic.
