The whole Torres saga was a bit of an enigma. And there's no business logic in following up a massively expensive investment (or in this case, a loss) with anothe risky buy...not saying I don't like Torres, just saying he has yet to perform. I can understand Romans reluctance to splash it down when Modric is still an option.

@super-frank ya you're right mate I looked back at the article and I read it out of context. He's simply underplaying the clubs involvement in the market. It seems a good move for a new manager, get the confidence of the players before you start tinkering. He did say though that since he has till 31 aug, he wont be under pressure from the board to make drastic changes, and that he believes the club to have some immense talent on board, just to have experienced a blip in form last season. He seems to be a good tactician and an equally good player manager, seems like we've had either one or the other or neither since mourinho last left. Well see.

So unfortunately I havent had much of a chance to watch Porto this past year, and as such I rely on word of mouth and YouTube clips on occasion to see what a player is capable of. Well...all the clips on him are scoring goals. Granted, theyre excellent goals, there's nothing showing his touch, strength, shot from distance, or skill on the ball. Which begs the question, is he a chicharito? Who has seen him play? Does he move well off the ball? Does he run into space or does he sit on top of defenders? Does he play with his back to goal or does he look to make runs? I'm just curious what were looking at here. What I do know...he can finish as well as anyone in the world. Is that it though?

Lukaku's value in 2 years could inflate beyond belief if he keeps improving. Sort of like Andy Carroll did from 2009-2011. AVB might want Lukaku cuz of his likeness to Drogba. After all, It was Mourinho who vouched for Drogba when no one else believed and I think Mourinho might have rubbed off a bit on AVB, in terms of liking similiar types of players.

Good point, I don't see AVB bringing anyone in immediately tho do you? As he stated he wants to meet the players and see them as a unit before he starts filling gaps. We might see us active in the market towards the end of July or early August it seems.

So I feel like everyones assumptions were based on us getting Hiddink. Now that we've established were not getting him, how does that effect our transfer policy now? It seems as tho villas boas won't make any big signings (yet) as he's going to want to get acclimated to the squad. So maybe all this Neymar-Modric-Lukaku-Pastore-Aguero talk will be put on the back burner for a month or so. Then again, what Roman wants, Roman gets...

I see where you're coming from but understand it's a risk assessment at this point, from a multi billionaire who, as you previously stated, is known for making wasteful purchases. I'd say he's less willing to openly pursue and perpetuate the media frenzy that follows cash rich clubs cuz it tends to create inflation in the value of players. And from a purely football basis, Neymar's value is the definition of inflation. For all we know tho, Roman might make a last minute swoop and bring him to the bridge, we saw it before with Robinho and a bit with Kaka. Which transitions into the next point...you're adamant that this boy has "real value," but id have to take a more skeptical standpoint and ask about precedent. Who was the last, most recent undersized, skillful, pacy, "brilliant" wonderkid from foreign shores (Brazil) to grace the Premier League?? Hell they're almost interchangeable in YouTube clips. And Robinho hated the physicality in England. All I'm saying is the board is being rational and considering contingencies cuz at the end of the day, hes a product in a vast market and their all businessmen. ---yet still, I'd love for Neymar to prove me wrong  but only wearing Chelsea blue ....

Havent seen him play a full match, mostly just YouTube clips...but does anyone else see a bit of Iniesta in this boy? I'm not at all drawing comparison in quality, merely pointing out he could be an answer to that lack of "creativity" everyone speaks of. Great first touch, good pace, deadly vision. Just an observation.
