That HAS to be what he's thinking. He hints at it all the time. That yes, Ivanovic makes mistakes but that the other player on his side is a big problem as well for not helping him. That's the only explanation as to why he continues to play.
-
Ivanovic against Mane would be disastrous. We're already going to be in for a fight in the middle of our defense with Pelé up there. The last thing we need is Ivanovic getting spanked continuously on the outside at the same time. As one of the staunchest Mourinho supporters out there, he's making it awfully difficult for fans to trust his judgement when he continues to handicap the team by playing Ivanovic. That quote all but confirms he'll play tomorrow because he's hardly going to drop his "best" RB.
-
He'll no doubt continue to pick him no matter what.
-
And true. Not saying I wish we had all of them back, just that it sucks watching them succeed with other teams.
-
Doing for them what he did for us and what Cesc should now be doing. Goals, assists, creativity. Really sucks watching players like Mata, KdB, and Lukaku killing it for other teams. When we were winning last season I thought nothing of it but now that we're shit and have players struggling in positions where those guys we let go play in it's depressing.
-
Mata back to his best. Been their best attacking player this season.
-
Or he knows that if he's going to sack such a great manager he needs to have another of similar quality lined up to replace him. Klopp and Pep will both be available at season's end. No point sacking Mourinho now and essentially writing off any hope at all of turining things around.
-
Oh, fuck, I forgot about Mane...Disregard my previous post.
-
Think we'll win this rather comfortably, think we've turned the corner afterwards again, and then struggle once more in the following match.
-
Grim reading. And all true.
-
Don't sack him mid season. Would be a terrible decision. Finish outside of the top 4 and then we should get Klopp or throw everything possible at Pep. If we can't get one of those two, there's no point in sacking José. There aren't any managers out there who could do better in my opinion.
-
Agreed with all of this until you said "everything will be fine." Sure, these underperforming players have to improve (can't get much worse) but will they do so before it's too late? Certainly think we'll be fine getting through our CL group but I'm truly worried about our PL play. Just looking at all of the sides above us and thinking "we have better players than all of them except for City." FFS, United didn't even have a quality striker for a while and are now playing a 19 year old who's new to the country and are 9 fucking points ahead of us! They have a makeshift, terrible looking defense with a winger playing RB, a midfielder playing CB, their star keeper didn't even play for weeks, and their best LB injured for months and we've conceded loads more than they have. I'd be more optimistic if we were simply getting unlucky and the poor form of our players was steadily improving, but our defense and midfield look shit game after game and don't look like suddenly snapping back into form.
-
Brendan Rodgers or Moyes-esque. Not for the first time this season. Some delusional comments from José this season. It's like he's in denial. I honestly think he believes that we've simply been super unlucky this season and that's why we're in this current predicament. He keeps saying that "today we were unlucky and were punished while other days we wouldn't have been" line seemingly every week. At some point we stop being unlucky and there are real problems. We've long since passed that point.
-
José saying we performed well after every terrible result is getting so stale and makes me want to rip my hair out. I don't even think he knows what the problems are anymore.
-
We're a shambles of a team. In every facet of the game. Embarrassing in defense, non-exsistent in midfield, and our attackers can't even get the ball most of the time. We look like a shell of the side that played last season. Just totally dominated by Porto and we would've conceded 4-5 were it not for Begovic. That's about the fourth time we've had to say that, too. We look like a totally spent force in so many areas. Willian and Costa looked decent and Begovic saved us from an embarrassing score line. Fabregas and Ivanovic terrible again. What happened to Pedro? After his flash on to the scene here he's been poor or anonymous more often than not. Totally out of it like everyone else in our team. May sound like hyperbole, but we seriously will struggle to finish in the CL places playing like this. Are the players just not responding to Mourinho's directions any longer? Can that be the problem? This season has been inexplicably shocking. Something seriously wrong and concerning.
-
We simply CANNOT defend. Embarrassing all season.
-
FREE WILLY!!!
-
Guess who...
-
Whenever a player gets the ball they just ghost past Iva with a simple move.
-
This black kit is stunning, I must say.
-
As with Filipe Luis, how the hell is Baba supposed to reach his best form and get used to playing for Chelsea if he's never selected or only given a game here and there? The title ain't happening this season and we have a FB who's struggling mightily week in and week out. Just fucking throw Baba in and get him up to speed. He is our future, not Ivanovic.
-
If there was anyone at all in our team who I'd have thought was untouchable it was Eden. No matter his form, no matter his confidence I thought he'd be picked. But it's actually....IVANOVIC!? Wow!
-
He's too good to be sat on our bench. He's either your #1 or no point having him.Anyways, I just want to fucking strangle Roberto Martinez. Does that exact same idiotic looking celebration every time they score. After the Stones saga simply seeing his face infuriates me. Hate him.
-
I almost, ALMOST hit my breaking point during that match. Some of our boys need a massive kick up the ass. The effort, commitment, and attitude are disgraceful from all but Begovic and 3/4th's of our back line. Ivanovic is clearly trying but he's simply shot so I'm done wasting my anger at him. It's Fabregas, Hazard, Oscar, Matic, and everyone else in our attack that I'm livid with. I'm going to reluctantly single out Cesc most of all. He looks like a bloody 40 year old out there. The misplaced passes, the lack of pace, and nearly non exsistent defensive cover are super annoying but FOR FUCKS SAKE I can't stand when he has the ball and dwells on it for ages allowing someone to nick it from behind. He was my favorite player in our team last season and he now looks like a shell of the player that was a revelation in the first half of the season. Will he ever rediscover that form or has he just burnt out and been figured out? Looking at the table is depressing as fuck. Seeing United miles ahead of us and topping the league after finishing 17 points ahead of them last season is utterly sickening. We're looking at a dogfight with Spuds and Liverpool for that 4th spot at this rate.
-
Your last sentence is spot on and exactly the problem. Our side has no gut. An opponent puts pressure on or smacks us in the mouth and we can't handle it. We're so easy to bully which is shocking and unheard of from a Mourinho team. I've now fully converted to the "we don't train attacking play" side. Our attacking players look like total strangers. It's embarrassing. Nearly every manager in the world would kill for the players we have. We just waste it.
