Maybe. If the Arse owners are finally willing to go big and get over that final hurdle I guess. But them spending Man City or Chelsea type money in a single window I still have to see to believe. They showed with Rice that they’re willing to go big for one single player but we’re yet to really see them splurge on a handful of expensive players all in one window. Same can really be said about Liverpool.
-
I really don’t see any of those clubs being willing to pay that much for a winger this summer. Especially when they’re all linked with super expensive players in other areas of need.
-
Really like what I see with Ekitike from a raw talent and style standpoint. But do I see a striker who is going to be a 20+ per season scorer in the PL caliber player? Don’t think so. He looks like he’d be brilliant as an option for a top side who already has that monster #9 in place much like Jackson would be. For 80m+ he looks like a huge risk. Especially with our recent history of buying forwards from Germany who look outstanding over there and then massively underwhelm here in the PL.

Badly want Spuds to win this. Really badly. For two main reasons. One, because the Mark Goldbridge meltdown content will last weeks and two, because Spuds getting UCL football is completely pointless and does them not much good. Not like they can go out and sign top players with the lure of being in it. They may even keep Ange if they win which is good for us. United will always be able to attract good players due to their size and history but they desperately need this money for winning it and the money they’ll get for being in the Champions League next season and can shop in a totally different bracket this summer. I think they can make legitimate pushes for the likes of Gyokeres/Osimhen/Nico Williams etc if they have UCL + the money it brings rather than the mediocre targets they’re currently linked with. Long story short, United winning tonight makes our life harder next season and beyond. Spuds winning doesn’t really affect us at all.
-
Think it’s pretty safe to say that nobody really knows our primary transfer targets right now and won’t until this last game at the weekend. If we win and get UCL I think we’ll immediately start seeing briefings from the club about who we’re going after. The Enzo out/Rodrygo in stuff died within a day so that was clearly BS. I bet you anything that we’ll be looking almost exclusively at PL players. Delap, João Pedro, Guehi. The club will prioritize players who can hit the ground running with little to no adaptation period.

This is kind of where I’m at. I really like Enzo as a personality and love his play on the pitch when he’s at his best but I don’t think he suits the super high intensity of the PL as well as he would other, slower leagues. When matches become very stretched and end to end he struggles because he’s not the quickest or most athletic. Bit like Fabregas or Jorginho when they were here. I don’t WANT to see him sold and I’d be perfectly happy to keep him for years more, but if Madrid offer what we paid or more I’d do it so long as we replace him with someone new who suits the PL better. If the idea from the club is to sell Enzo, not use the money for a replacement, and then simply say that Andrey Santos is his replacement then it would be a huge mistake.

True. Like I said earlier, Wharton from Palace looks like the ideal midfielder if we need one. He is ultra comfortable on the ball and is great at playing between the lines linking the midfield and attack. He 100% looks like a midfielder that Pep will fancy at some point so we’d do well to be there if possible.
-
I love Lavia but I think we can go ahead and just assume that he’s going to miss some significant time with injuries. And Essugo is a complete unknown. So if we sell Enzo we’d definitely need another dependable CM I think.
-
If we sold Enzo for top dollar and brought in Wharton as his replacement straight away I wouldn’t be upset. I think he’s going to be a world class midfielder. Problem of course is that Palace would be an absolute bitch to negotiate with. Especially if they see us get 100m+ for Enzo in which case they’d probably ask for similar.
-
You would think that Xavi Alonso would immediately go for his starboy Wirtz if he’s desperate for a creative midfielder and they indeed had 100m to spend on one.
-
I just don’t buy it for a second. We’d be idiots to sell him for anything less than what we paid for him and I can’t see Madrid offering 100m+. I really like Enzo and would be sad to see him go IF these rumors are true, but I don’t think he’d be a devastating loss or anything like Caicedo would be.
-
I’d rather have a keeper who does the basic stuff a keeper should do really well but isn’t great with his feet than Sanchez who kicks the ball straight to the other team or directly out of play 5 times per match. 🤷♂️
-
Rodrygo seems like the most obvious “goes to Saudi for £700k per week” candidate out there. I doubt there’s anything in it with us. Him and Pedro Neto on opposite wings would be super tasty, though.
-
The Enzo to Real Madrid stuff feels like the usual lazy reporting you’ll always hear with high profile Spanish speaking players when Madrid need someone in a certain position. There’s absolutely zero chance that we sell him this summer and if we ever do it surely won’t be for a penny less than what we paid for him considering how many years he has left on his contract. And it’s highly unlikely RM will pay that.
-
Yeah, true. And I guess we can’t discount him going to United either when they win the Europa League. Slipped my mind that Amorim was obviously his manager just a few months ago. Gyokeres + Cunha would be one hell of a refresh of their attack.
-
Would really hate to see how well he’d get on at Arse or Liverpool. Especially Arse. He might hit 25+ PL goals quite easily in those teams if he maintains this form. So if it’s not us I hope he goes to some other non-PL team.
-
Gun to my head if I had to choose between Osimhen or Gyokeres I’d probably choose Gyokeres merely because he offers a bit more as an all around footballer. He can create goals himself more easily with his dribbling and explosive, powerful running. Whereas Osimhen is a more classic “big man” #9 who will be lethal with decent service. I’d be happy with either, though when the other options all look super underwhelming. The real dream striker would of course be Isak but that’s obviously impossible. Osimhen in the box on the end of the thousand crosses we play instead of Jackson infuriatingly having zero strikers instinct and being nowhere to be seen in the box does sound appealing. This is IMO the ideal setup for us. A main, top class striker and then Jackson or Guiu who can come on later in games and use their super pace and energy against tired legs.

What player? lol Aren’t Juve broke as a joke and in the mud these days?
-
True. But that was when this ownership were willing to go absolutely all in regardless of price to get their men at any cost. They felt we HAD to have Enzo and Caicedo. They seem to have backed far away from that sort of spending since. And remember, as astronomical as those two cost they’re still on relatively modest wages compared to the 250-300+ per week that top players make these days. Someone like Osimhen won’t agree to some paltry 100k per week if we try to offer him that as we saw last window. If the board decide they’ve had enough of us struggling then maybe they go all in again even if we fail next weekend. I’m skeptical. Unless Salah and VVD suddenly start to look really old and take big steps back I can’t see them crumbling sadly. I remember predicting that it would happen this season, lol. I thought Liverpool would really struggle under a new coach and after they barely did anything in the window. Then Salah looked as good or better than ever.
-
Liverpool seem to be properly reloading after their title win. Frimpong done as the TAA replacement and now apparently going to get Kerkez for the left. Two pretty great long term replacements for their fullbacks. I wouldn’t be shocked at all if they suddenly go after Gyokeres. You could drop him in their team just as easily as ours or Arse’s. They’re going to take some stopping extra season once again if they replenish the squad correctly which it seems they are doing. Only way we’ll be able to make a serious challenge is if we beat Forest and make ourselves as attractive to potential top players as possible. Without UCL footy I doubt Gyokeres even considers us.
-
Jonathan David would’ve been fine to have this season as a Jackson alternative. Now I wouldn’t take him unless it’s as an emergency last resort if we’ve missed out on everyone else. Not good enough to take us up a level. He’s a backup on an elite side.
-
Isak and Alvarez are completely untouchable I would think. João Pedro and Cunha aren’t even outright strikers, are they? They’re more second striker types I thought. Gyokeres would definitely be my first choice but I’d easily take Osimhen over any of the others that can be had. Sadly, think Gyokeres has long been Arsenal bound. And since we refuse to blow other rivals out of the water with wage offers now I don’t think we can compete with what they offer him.
-
Man, I remember how excited United fans were when they paid 70m or whatever it was for Hojland. They genuinely convinced themselves that they were getting the next future great striker despite his numbers being very underwhelming even before arriving. We complain a lot about Nico Jackson but he’s MILES better than Hojland and only cost like 30m.
-
Need Palmer to really step up and bring us home like he has so many times since joining. Would be massive for him mentally to be the one who gets us over the line.
-
Colwill for me is still showing in flashes that he can become a very good starting CB. What he badly needs is a Thiago Silva sort of leader next to him to form a partnership which starts game after game all season in the league. I’m perfectly okay keeping Trev & Tosin since as we’ve seen all season they’re each capable of coming in and being perfectly serviceable and solid. Colwill + a Thiago Silva/JT/VVD/Kompany type with Trev/Tosin/Fofana if he ever stays fit as our CB options next season and we’re in great shape. Whether that profile of CB exists out there and could be had I don’t know. It certainly isn’t Huijsen, Branthwaite, or some other kid we should be after. Look how massive of a step Newcastle took forward once they signed some highly experienced, no nonsense CB’s. That’s what we need badly.
