I don’t think we’ll make another “wow” signing but I do think we’ll panic buy someone decent soon. Like Pavard. All the talk over the past few months about how active we’d be and how massive the investment would be turned out well… 😒 Oh, and I just saw on Twitter that Jesus scored a hat trick. He’s been scoring for fun all preseason. For the life of me I can’t understand why we didn’t make him a priority in addition to Sterling.
-
Completely disagree. He identified the likes Sterling, Koulibaly, some top class CB’s and Raphinha as priority targets. The players he’s targeting are perfect for the way we play. The identification of players hasn’t been the issue. It’s the negotiating and signing part that has been dreadful. And I don’t think you can blame the coach for that since he has probably never been so involved in these matters before. If the very first thing Boehly did when the takeover was complete was appointing a highly experienced DoF we’d surely be in a much better place right now.
-
The thing with all these rumors of attacking players leaving is that we aren’t linked with any incomings. There is literally no chatter from anyone worth listening to about attacking signings. It’s as though we gave up looking for anyone after Raphinha turned us down for Barca.
-
Why did you name the 3 flops we’ve signed? That’s part of my point. Our rivals seem to always strike gold with strikers and forwards whereas we sign flop after flop after flop. In recent years Arse have had Auba who was prolific. Spuds have Kane and Son. United with Ronaldo. Liverpool with you know who. City with several players who score for fun. But then there’s us who 2 years ago had our highest scorer as Jorginho with all pens and this past year a midfielder with a mighty 11? goals. All I’m saying is it’s incredible that we’ve never gotten lucky and struck gold on ANY of these forwards in recent years. You would think that by sheer brute force of buying so many we’d hit the jackpot at some point.

Memphis is bang average.
-
When you sit there and really think about it, it’s absolutely mad that for so long we’ve needed a prolific forward or two. Every single “Big 6” side finds these players except for us. And now we’re going to enter yet another season without anyone who you can say with 100% confidence will score 15 PL goals or more. I expect Mount, Sterling, Havertz, and perhaps Pulisic will each score 8-9 but I don’t think that’ll be nearly enough.
-
Encouraging in parts, concerning in others. Most concerning for me now is that there aren’t really visible patterns or “mechanisms” as one of our former managers said to open up teams. We just kind of pass it around and pass it around side to side when we get into the final third. And then if we lose it our midfield (and J5 in particular) are caught so high up and have so little pace that we get burned on the counter. If we can add just another 2-3 players before the season starts I’ll be more comfortable. A CB and an attacker at minimum.
-
Btw, this is just a mediocre Serie A side and they’re absolutely breezing past Jorginho over and over as if he’s not even there. Kova HAS to be first choice together with Kante.
-
Buildup play back to looking completely clueless now. No ideas or penetration at all.
-
Sterling could genuinely have like 4 tonight. What was that pass from Mase!? Sterling had an open net.
-
I just don’t see the same impact on a match with Reece in a back 4. He doesn’t look comfortable.
-
Sterling looks REALLY good!
-
Saw a tweet earlier today that it’s close to done for him to go to Everton. Only getting about £70k per week. If we were interested I think would could quite easily hijack it.
-
It is nice to see Sterling and KK already look like they’re ready to go for the start of the season whilst a few other aren’t yet. Concerning how completely blunt Havertz has looked all preseason, though. At least in this match he’s looking dangerous and is getting the ball in the box. But if he doesn’t start scoring goals soon I worry how we’re going to accumulate enough points to keep up with the more prolific sides.
-
Much more coherent and positive than last time out. Still a few out there that aren’t at their sharpest (Reece, Kai, Kante) but overall much better. But still a horrendous moment of counter attacking defending sours it. Just let a dude running a straight line all the way from back to front.
-
Sterling and Mase look sharp and dangerous every time they break.
-
Please, please, please for the love of God don’t tell me Chilwell is injured already before the season even starts…
-
Why would the bigger club agree to a buy back clause? That would be mighty silly to agree to.
-
We seem to be loading up at youth level again assuming that’s where this Italian kid is heading if we sign him. The Chelsea Women’s team is reloading apparently. Meanwhile, the team everyone cares about…. 😒
-
I just think that if there’s any chance of us getting Fofana or Skriniar we should try absolutely everything to get one of those two first and foremost. Pavard should be someone we go for if those fail or even in addition to one of them. I’d much rather sign Pavard than Kimpembe, though.
-
I think we need 2 more CB’s so we never have to see Sarr play for us again.
-
Pavard would be a solid signing I think. But not as our final CB target.
-
Hesitated WHY, though? If we hesitated and then immediately signed someone else that’s one thing. But we don’t appear to be chasing anyone else in particular. It doesn’t look like Tuchel was choosing between Koundé and some other CB and chose the other one. Because Tuchel himself has said we need at least 1 more CB. Doesn’t sound believable to me. Let’s see what Tuchel says.
-
We can’t give away our deadwood because they’re on huge wages and the past it players other clubs DO want like Azpi and Alonso we are refusing to let go of because we’re so incompetent that we can’t find replacements. I just saw Nizaar tweet that Batshuayi has been given an official shirt number. A player who if you dropped into a Championship side would look in over his head. And he may be playing serious minutes for us this season. That’s how dire the situation is for us. Unless a few dramatic late moves happen this coming week this will equal last summer as the worst transfer window in memory.
-
Annoying as hell that the only credible Chelsea rumors everyday now are outgoings. We don’t even appear remotely close to bringing anyone else in. Have we given up?
