torres was one of the most lethal finishers before he joined us. ba was the top scorer in PL even when he joined us. so etoo is nothing new. i am not going to get burned a 3rd time. so the open goal was not etoo's mistake. LOL. seriously?? tell me WC one striker (as u so clearly wanted me to compare falcao/cavani) who would have missed that on his debut.
-
they started taking their chances. does not seem like we are going to do that anytime soon.
-
precisely. when you miss/fluff your chances, u tread a dangerous line. hence my argument that "everything will be fine" simply wont work for us if things continue this way.
-
i am using torres and ba as arguments because there is a trend here. you take time to understand the philosophy of a team. if etoo's link up play was poor, i could have understood that and given him time to adjust to a new team and teammates. but his link up play was good and his finishing was poor. hence the trend. u dont need time to settle to tap in from 5 yards into an open goal. it could be 1 game, 2 games or his 100th game but that should have been a goal. and cavani/falcao would not have made that mistake, they would not have been so casual. their is your difference.

no one is kidding themselves here. our performance that night was shambolic but so was munich's. my point is/was that FINISHING is as much a part of the game as passing, tackling, positioning. why do we exclude finishing from our minds when we our talking about the overall game. u say we wont keep losing forever if we keep playing but what happened today is not the first time this has happened to us in the last 1 year. liverpool at home should have been 3/4-0 but ended 1-1, wba should have been won 4/3-2 was lost 1-2, swansea should have been in the bag much more the 80th minute equalizer ended 1-1. and this is just out of the top of my head. the no. of points we lost last season due to poor finishing was immense and this season it has already cost us 3 points. so at the moment, i dont think everything like get fine if we keep playing the way we are. the problems that we had last season are still here, poor finishing, weak pivot. the only thing that was good in our first 4 matches was the defensive discipline but yesterday we even lacked that. so forgive if i am not as optimistic as u in saying everything will get fine if we keep playing this way, because it simply does not look like that to me.

same thing with torres, same thing with ba. "we need to relax". "it was just one game". "its been just 2 months". "they have been here for only 6 months and have not had much time to gel with the team" , "he got into great positions", "he ll start banging them for fun, just wait and watch"... and so on and so forth. as for the link up play argument - just does not sit well with me. its not the first time we have played well but lost. we create chances but have NO ONE to finish those chances.
-
strikers are supposed to score, none of ours can. not even 5 yards out and into an open goal. link up play and all the wonderful football jazz is secondary.
-
my line-up cech azpi cahill iva bertrand mikel mvg kdb mata willian etoo/ba/torres (who cares, they are all useless) mata SHOULD start. he needs some gametime. moreover it looks like he needs that boost of confidence, a goal/assist/or even a good performance.
-
wow. simply wow. now mata is getting singled out. hazard lost the ball about 15 times to naismith/coleman, but he gets 15 motm votes. mata puts in a decent performance, is taken out at about the 55th minute but its his fault. by the way did any1 notice how well we were controlling the game when mata was on the pitch to how we were playing when he was not. when he was on the pitch we created chances while after his sub, it was the end. we had no play, we had no tempo.
-
poor. he has been the hazard of old in only one match - BAYERN. which was actually not that suprising. in that match he played against rafinha with barely any defensive help from robben on the wings whatsoever. in PL, he gets doubled up against every team. united - valencia and jones eveton - naismith and coleman. he really should pick his moments of trying to dribble his way out and concentrate more on link up play. i remember a moment late in the match when he tried to take on 4-5 everton players on the edge of the box, lost the ball and dint even run to retrieve it.
-
we were creating chances. a couple of them were open goals which we would have eventually put in the back of the net. everton were on the backfoot in the first half. in the 2nd half, with a lead to protect they parked the bus. they dint need to do anything else. with conceding the goal just before the half-time, we put ourselves under 1000 times more pressure than what would have been if it was 0-0. mata and schurlle would not have been taken out for lamps and oscar, because that is simply taking out any true width from the attack. i simply cant understand those subs, and have to say those were panic subs because jose wanted a goal no matter what. the goal and specially the timing of it changed the way the whole match was setup. luiz was the main culprit for the goal and will have to take his share of blame. and only a fool would say no to this. also people blaming cech need to see CHELSEA under jose more clearly. everytime cech gets the ball, he looks for a run being made or a chance for a counter. he did nothing but try to force the game and get our counter running. we want luiz to lead our line in the near future, lets see him act the position he is going to be entrusted with.
-
this question should apply to the 3 votes for torres, 5 for luiz and 11 for hazard. i am just happy that no one voted for cole.
-
where u coming from??? mou said that everton deserved to win. he cant make it any more clear.
-
iva HAD to take up luiz's place and lessen the space created INSIDE the box by luiz. he HAD to let go jela. jela was no longer iva's man. u cant blame him for jela playing the ball back again. this is like a chain reaction and the catalyst here is LUIZ. his mistake of trying to be the hero cost us. there was no opening. watch JT. he was covering his end. plus i would take an everton player trying to shoot from 20-25 yards out rather than some1 trying to head the ball in from 2 yards. for me, its simple. if u r a defender of your team, your PRIMARY objective is to DEFEND. when u have done that, then u think about attack and trying to nibble the ball away and stuff. luiz is supposed to be our future captain, such reckless acts and poor decision making is not the ideal way to go.
-
all this coming from u!!! huh... truth too hot to handle???
-
nope. watch the goal. luiz goes out of position, tries to intercept the ball. JT tries to lessen the space left by luiz. also iva was properly marking jelavic until luiz went out of position, but as soon as luiz moved ahead iva, moved towards JT to mark the now unmarked naismith. so jelavic became free at the far post. but most concerning point was tthat luiz made no effort on coming back to his position or covering his team-mates. and this was not the only incident in the match. even early on in the match luiz made a stupid run forward (in the first 20 minutes or so). showed no defensive discipline whatso ever thruout the match. could have been sent off easily. was sulking when cech decided to ping the ball ahead rather than pass to him and the way he held himself today was pathetic.
-
who are we to complain about having more shots, more possession, looking more dangerous but not winning. have we so conveniently forgotten the 2012 CL semis and finals. sanchez, fabregas missing easy chances, messi misssing penalties, robben-penalty, gomez- chance after chance and the list goes on and on and on. as i said before FINISHING is also an aspect of the game. just like passing, tackling, positioning etc. infact its the most important aspect of the game.
-
sometimes its easy to forget that even finishing is a part of football. infact its the biggest part of the game. u can pass the ball around and pass it wonderfully but it means SHIT if you dont score and take your chances. we have a wonderful example in ARSENAL who are so hell bent on playing awesome football that they have not won a trophy in 8 years. beautiful football means NOTHING unless u get a beautiful result. also we were good for the first half. we were good for 5-10 minutes of the 2nd half. we were pathetic for the last 40 minutes. so lets not hoot our own horns.
-
for people who are saying that we deserved to win Mourinho: "We had chances and chances and we didn't score. If you don't score what you create means nothing." Mourinho: "We had 21 shots...but a team who has chances like that and doesn't take them deserves to lose." said by the man himself. we literally missed a couple of open goals. unacceptable. everton did the needful. towards the end of the 2nd half, we dint even look like a threat. had no penetration. if we want to win the PL, we will have to come from behind in many a game. with the strike force that we have, we will miss chances and be trailing inspite of playing the better football. so what disappointed me today was our 2nd half performance. except for the schurlle chance and the hazard shot which were both towards the start of the half , we were actually pathetic. ps- if this is how luiz wants to play then i would honestly prefer KALAS over him. disgraceful performance.
-
AWFUL. PATHETIC. HOPELESS. DISGRACEFUL PERFORMANCE.
-
what the fuck was luiz on today??? the most pathetic performance i have ever seen.
-
so what the news on the hazard and oscar front?
-
