Should we have cashed in on Cole and Drogba last summer?
Kojo replied to Tomo's topic in Matthew Harding Stand
We can cope without Ashley, and 29 million is a lot, appearently Milan offered 30 million for Essien, i love Michael but for that price and now that he's just had his injury i only wish we did sell him just before then, that's if Milan did bid for him of course... Drogba for me is too hard to let go, it would be the same for Lampard, even though i want Lampard dropped from first team so badly, i doubt i could ever see him leave or retire, even though i know it's for the best. I think our problem is, is that we don't sell players when they get out of their primes, such as Barca with Ronaldinho, Arsenal with Henry and Vierra and there are more but i just can't think right now. Some of these players should of been sold by now, however i do think it was right to let go of Ballack, i heard he hasn't done much at Laverkusen?. But this season yes we should of let go of the likes of Drogba, to make some more space, Malouda and Anelka this is there final season for definite, and i'll be kinda sad when i see Anelka go, always was one of my favourite Chelsea players here no matter how many times i do get angry with him. Lampard wont leave he said that, so he will just retire, i have no problem with Frank, he is a useful player but it's stupid how he's starting all these games for us. We just don't seem to be selling much lol, and you would think that's weird since it's our worst season ever under Abramovich. -
But how the fuck do Wigan stay up?, i think they are a very weak team and every time i look at results they get smashed by every team in the league... it's amazing how they are still in this league.
-
Welcome to Chelsea, i had a look at Wikipedia and noticed he is actually on our team, i thought he would be on the reserve team. So would he be getting games this season?, and what is he like?, i know he's a midfielder but is he creative type?, or more attacking midfielder, by the looks of the youtube videos.
-
It's shocking if this is actually true.
-
I just noticed this thread, and Tomo you've made some good threads lately, and you know how to explain things and prove things. But most of all you seem to make the season realistic and bright, thank you.
-
Lmao, well said, Redknapp is a very open manager and he says stuff i bet other managers make notes of, he's the only manager i know who tells the press who he's going to buy this season.
-
It's a huge gift he has, he also never runs out of breathe either, bear in mind he's running like that with about 10 minutes left. I think he should be encouraged to move forward a lot more, cause when he does something good happens, he seems to have a lot of control with his pace and gets through players.
-
No way!, what forums!?... that's pretty shocking, but i guess that's kind of hypocritical of me since i wanted Rio Ferdinand to get an injury. But get well soon Didier.

There is main problems in the team, and i've stated earlier today that we havent had a big result since 'the bad november' last season, ever since then we've never looked like a team which is champion material, we struggle in every match, even against newly promoted teams... even if it's at home. We are a very weak team with a big reputation... the midfield is the problem mainly, Lampard offers the least, if we get a creative playmaker, someone who can work magic, then he has to play in Lampards position, but to be honest McEachran can do that... but we all know here, he wont get his game. Ramires has a gift with his pace, and he needs to move forward a lot more in my opinion, everytime he goes in something happens, he's a sepcial player and we need to use him a lot more, especially at the age he is right now, but he in my opinion is our alternate midfielder, we shouldn't look at him for creativity. Mikel, i like him, he can be a bit hot or cold sometimes but he will eventually get hot, i know he will, once he starts getting with the team, a lot of DM's have this problem, Lucas for Liverpool had this problem but now he's adapted into the squad. But Lampard is the problem mainly, we need someone who can do something in his position, Yossi could do much better than Lampard there and we all know that, but we can do better than them both and that's why we need to buy one more player before the transfer window closes. I think the wingers is fine at the moment from what i've seen of Mata, we can only hope Mata keeps playing well, but he can be dropped in midfield too, his passing is very good, especially that pass to Lukaku he made. Right wing, i hope Sturridge does well there, that's all... but this should be open to Anelka and Sturridge, and Drogba now and again. Defence, last season our defence was class, it's a shame we didn't have a good midfield who could keep possession otherwise we would of conceded very little goals, but because AVB plays a different defensive chemistry, which is a lot worse, we have this problem. On match of the day if any of you people saw it, Alan Shearer showed you lots of videos of long balls getting over our defence and there was a bout 6-7 one on ones in the past 3 matches... now that's very worrying considering we've played Norwich, West Brom and Stoke. But Stoke wasn't a bad match tbf, David Luiz wud be perfect for the formation but Terry is way to slow, United will take advantage of this defence line if we don't sort it out immediately. No new players are needed here, just needs sorting out. Set pieces, i don't think there's any complaints, Drogba and Alex (When in his position) should be the ones to take shots, Lampard for crossing them in, cause i think he's rather good at it, but not shooting, when Lampard shoots its just a waste of a free kick. And as for Striker force, Torres will get those goals trust me, this time it really does take just one, because then his movement will be much better, but it's only if our midfield is good, if he can score a goal from a good cross or a good ball, then Torres will be back, i 100 percent garauntee you he will score much more goals, because he is a goal machine, and he can score them. Last season he scored a goal but it couldn't do him any good because he wasn't the problem in the first place, that's what people need to realise, it was the midfield, so he wouldn't get anymore chances. Trust me on this, i'm a very negative person but i know if our team does blend and we do get a creative midfielder and we are set, so will Torres, because he would have to be totally finished, and he isn't, he can score goals, he has proved it, but our team hasn't proved we can give him the ball. Well that's my whole opinion of the matter, good discussion and thread by the way, but i think we only need one player. That's a creative midfielder such as Modric and Moutinho, and we desperately need one of them before the window shuts, besides that i think we can have a great season still if we just manage to sort the team out, so we should keep the faith and try to enjoy the season as much as we can.

It could be a battle of the billionaires, but we don't seem to want to take part in it.
-
I just want to see improvement to be honest, even if we do finish 4th, i'm sick of the lack of good football, we havent played good football in ages and i would like to see something nice from the team, cause i'm getting quite sick of us struggling every match and having to pull our fingers out from conceding and having to get back into the game all the time. This happens in almost every game... i think that would be far better than a trophy, but then again... if we did play good football i doubt we would be finishing 4th.
-
The top four in the table at the moment, that's how i think the season will finish. And yes i think it's out of us and Liverpool for an automatic spot. Liverpool in my opinion have a shit defence but a good attack, they seem to be able to score a lot of goals, but also concede quite a few too. Unless we buy a creative midfielder this season, and have many playing top form and sort the defence line out, i think we will finish above them.
-
Oh shit international break i forgot about that, oh well maybe he might be then, i certainly hope so.
-
I very much doubt he will be back unforutunately, they are still wondering if he will manage to be back just before the United game.
-
Hilario Bosingwa-Ivanovic-Terry-Cole Ramires-Mikel-McEachran Sturridge-Torres-Mata And i would like to see Romeu come on for Mikel later, and Anelka for Sturridge, depending on how Sturridge plays, and maybe Lukaku, but depends how well Torres is playing.
-
He wont, but i still think he can be usefull, Torres still hasn't scored a goal in the premier league where he was assisted from a long ball or a cross, that's how poor the midfield has been. If we can assist him, which means buying a creative midfielder then i think we can still get a lot out of him, but i do agree, we wont get the torres he once was out of him. It was Abramovich's own decision, and he will regret it, but we have to make the most out of him.
-
Okay i respect your decision, and if that's what you think then fair enough, it's your opinion.
-
I shouldn't reply to this because i think this is just going to go on and on and on... but just to let you know, people are different, like Terminator X said, Carlo killed Kakuta by not giving him a chance, also with Borini, Borini never got a chance, i also liked Stoch but he never got a chance in premier league football either... but don't judge Lukaku on these people, only one of them on there was a striker, and Lukaku has proved himself much more than Borini in my opinion. And i think Lukaku is a better player than Borini, this is football, anything happens, everythings a gamble, just don't be so miserable... haha miserable this is coming from me... the most negative person on this forum... now Justin that's saying something lad.
-
Okay look Justin... i know you fail to jump on bandwagons and stand your own ground, but sometimes you just be too negative, if this is you just being honest then your even worse than me when it comes to negativity because i am very negative, i'm just not a confident person, because when i am confident nothing ever works out. Or are you just arguing because you want to?. At the end of the day this is a forum, not the whole Chelsea crowd or the media, were not hyping him up were proud of him. And i don't think he was excellent, he came on and did well, however when he was holding the ball up he should of made 2 passes to the side and he would of created wonderful play, even one on ones. But he looked very confident, and that's what i like about him, his diving header was a very good effort, he even gave a good option for Juan Mata to square the ball to him, so he was spot on with his positioning. I think we all have a right to be happy with Lukaku, i wont compare him to any player i think he's his own, even though he is similar to others, but so is everyone really. At the end of the day hes very young and did well for that age, but i don't think you should be so negative about it and especially say 'meh' like you don't even care, it's pretty disrespectful from you to be honest.

I know this is offtopic, but did you just get an RT from Chris Cohen?, i could of swore he mentioned your name.

Bastion Schweinsteiger is an unreal player, one hell of a player, would love him to come to Chelsea, but i see don't see him coming here, perhaps if i heard something then i would have some faith... but nothing at the moment.
-
Yes he got an assist, but tbf it was because of Bosingwas long range effort, it wasn't anything special from Lampard. But Lampard wasn't that bad this game, he didn't give the ball away, only once i think and did make a few decent passes, but he's not good enough to be a starter for Chelsea, we need a better player in there who can make magic and create play, i think we are now sorted on the wings, hopefully anyway... since we now have Mata, but a creative midfielder is needed, Lampard cannot knock out long balls or long passes, he probably could but he lacks the vision. And Styles i do totally agree with you about Terry being to slow, he can't play in this high defense line, how many times have we been caught out with these long balls?, shit load of times, if we play like this against United were fucked...
-
lionsden has a point, don't let the scoreline fool you, there's been very little changes and i don't blame people if they havent seen any change at all, because there's still tiny magic coming from our midfield, and weak crosses from the wingers, until Mata came on of course. We need a creative midfielder and it's been said for ages and i would think that's our problem solved. Cause i wont expect Lampard to be kicking out very good passes all the time.
-
Torres had no assistance today, but he didn't make things easier for himself either, he gave up a lot of the time and could of been a lot quicker in some situations, however when Mata came on he got 2 chances, both of them were headers. I agree with you though, creativity is not back at all, we need a creative midfielder which we have been shouting out for for a long time, and that player needs to come now in this window, even if it's not Modric, get someone who is at Chelsea level and can play a good pass. But Torres as our main striker, Lukaku played very well when he came on, he should definitely be on the bench. And Mata on that left wing with Sturridge on the right, and if we don't get a creative midfielder then please McEachran-Mikel/Romeu-Ramires, with Lampard on the bench. I was very pleased with Anelka, and have been recently, he creates magic and works very hard, Anelka still is one of my favourite players, but since January last season i've just given up on him, but he seems to be playing really well still. Malouda was decent but he creates nothing on that left wing, besides crossing it low in the middle of the box behind where the players are running in just for the defender to clear it... and this happens all the time. I think Ramires should be encouraged to move forward a bit too, he usually creates something amazing, his pace and control is a gift he has, and he should use it more often, and if in some matches he seems to be giving the ball away then make him stop, i don't see any harm in it tbf. However Terry was pretty shocking in my opinion, the defence line was, Bosingwa was a bit loose on the line but he was brilliant as he has been in his past matches offensively. But we still have a problem, and that is midfield, we need a creative midfielder and i think we are set for the season if you ask me. Defence just needs to be sorted out but no new players, because defence has been shocking since the West Brom game.
-
You kept to your word and i have with mine, i am very dissapointed with the performance, but when Mata came on, and Lukaku they played great. Now i totally agree, Lampard shouldn't of played the full 90 minutes, but to be fair Mikel has had better games, and so has Ramires, however what i love about ramires is that he has sudden moments with his pace and just turns the defence inside out and creates magic.
