Ofcourse he is good. But how does he fit into the team? Where do we stump up the cash from? Instead of talking about this, what grabs more attention is that he's English. Hence the rant. Sorry if I offended anyone, wan't intended.

Don't necessarily have to be English to count as homegrown.

As I said, we have enough England internationals, and England youth internationals. But what the hell, let's just buy English regardless of squad balance, dynamics et al.

He was born in Zaire, and has a Congolese mother.

Zhirkov doesn't do much in midfield. Has to play on the wing to be anywhere near effective.

We do have 3 England internationals. And the likes of Bertrand, Cork, McEachran, Mancienne and Sturridge at u-21 level. What I'm saying is, being English should not be the primary consideration for getting a player. We've had horror shows like Parker, Carlton Cole, Glen Johnson, Sidwell, SWP ...

But then who plays in midfield? Ramires injured, Essien to be rested. That just leaves Mikel, Malouda, Josh and Yuri.

What does being English have to do with anything? You're either good enough, or not.
