2 hours ago, YorkshireBlue said:Why? RLC mid table azi now mid table, Mendy mid table, puli ziyech broja jorgi mid table, auba past it, what aspect of our current squad shouts out top 4? Wouldn’t disagree. I would only put Thiago/ Mason/ Reece,Ben and Ngolo ( all injured) and perhaps Chalobah as a sub in my Top 4 team
-
Not seen any other comments on Zakaria? Surely he did enough in the one game he played to come on as a sub against Arsenal, when the midfield we did play were just getting overrun ?
-
And I also agree to the Laylabelle point re Mendy. He scares the sh.t out of me on a regular basis with his distribution .He frequently rolls the ball to a defender who has two attackers bearing down on him and suddenly “panic stations”. I can’t believe he is told to do that, so it seems to his total lack of awareness
-
Also, not sure if anybody else has mentioned it but why didn’t we put Zakaria on at all ? I think he had a decent game and at least he scored a goal and he also took at least a few steps in a forward direction !! Surely he would have been an alternative to Jorginho or RLC ? I agree in part with the manager/driving instructor comparison — but if someone on the pitch consistently doesn’t carry out instructions surely you take him off ? Jorginho in particular drives me to distraction,he now plays most of the game with his back to the opposition goal,no wonder we never go forwards.
-
Every time I post I make the point that we have taken possession football to a whole new level . As “SuperBlue” said earlier going backwards with 5 minutes left and a goal down is criminal. Nobody is prepared to take the opposition on,they just take the easy option and pass backwards or at best sideways !! Jorginho will never drive us forward,Loftus Cheek is just not good enough ,Cucerella must be the worst buy ever,Sterling has gone totally off the boil and Havertz has many games where he becomes non existent. We are where we belong in the league . Where is the heart ? Where is the passion ? Where are the goals ? All in all it’s a mess
-
Agree with earlier comments re the quality of our summer signings. I guess we will never know the full reasons why we didn’t get one first choice over the line. It’s too early to judge Potter but a lot going on leaves me baffled. No place last night for Either of our new centre halves one of which we paid a fortune for , no place for Zakaria but we turn to Loftus Cheek again (!!), Auba is a complete waste of space. Why did we sign these guys —answer PANIC !!
-
As someone said earlier it is just so predictable and sad to watch.. At least I don’t have to watch us again this weekend, getting totally depressed once in a week is enough
-
If Loftus Cheek is our answer,no wonder we are in trouble.
-
We huff and we puff but we are too lightweight to get close to blowing any house down !! Havertz,Auba just not going to score us enough goals. Can see us once again having 75% possession and them hitting us on the counter attack and winning the game
-
As I said previously I'm intrigued whether Potter can take that step and I'm intrigued on how the ownership structures us in the future and supports him. Hopefully it's the start of something great but it is definitely a huge move away from what we've been accustomed to for the last couple of decades. now that’s the million question !! Potter wouldn’t have been my choice, but if it’s a done deal we have to get the prayer mat out and get behind him. But of course it’s not really about us. It’s the players who have to buy in to him (and will they ?) and will future potential big name signings want play for him ? I guess only time will tell.
-
Not that it matters now, but the demise of Tuchel seemed to coincide with him splitting from his wife. I know there were other things going on at the club, but whoever you are it’s difficult to concentrate on your job when your personal life is in turmoil . Really not sure Potter is the answer, but he might at least get us going forwards instead of backwards or sideways !!!
-
Potter has done a great job at Brighton but dealing with our “big-time Charlie’s” is likely to be a totally different proposition. I think Poch might actually have something to prove in the Premiership, he knows European football and has experience of so called big names with big egos . To me it depends if Boelly wants a long term plan , which would be new to us (!!) in which case it’s Potter - or a short-term fix in which case it’s Poch.
-
Like many I can’t believe that we have chosen now to get shot of Tuchel. I certainly don’t like the way we have been playing but he deserved longer to sort things out. Why spend the money on Auba , who only Tuchel wanted, if a week later you sack him. Our record in transfers is abysmal — We got rid of Salah,De Bruyne,Tammy,Timori to name but 4 who have all had great success elsewhere, we spent a fortune on Lukaku but we keep Ziyech, Puli,Jorginho who should all have played their last game for us !! Even Mason needs to look himself in the mirror or he could go the same way as Ross Barkley. I suppose Potter might be worth a punt but I think the whole thing is becoming a sad joke
-
I know many won’t agree and I’m not saying Lukaku is in the same league as Haarland BUT City have players who know how to get him the ball in the right place and a manager that knows how to get the best from him .On the other hand we never knew how to get the best out of Lukaku,he lost any confidence he had and the rest is history !!
-
Just watching City play. We are currently a million miles away !!
-
The rot started when we were so late in to the transfer market and at the same time we lost Rudi . We seemed unable to sign any of of our first choice targets and in panic we seem to have grabbed anybody who was prepared to come !! Is Cucarella really a £60 million player ? In what I’ve seen so far is Koulibally that much better than Chalobah ? Is Auba anywhere near match fit ? What has happened to Mason ? Are Ziyech,Puli,Jorginho Premiership class ? Is Tuchel elite class ? The answer to most of the above is NO — so added together it means we are in a mess !
-
Just very sad. No attacking ideas at all. We could have played for hours and still wouldn’t score. How much do we pay these players ? A total shambles and Tuchel must shoulder much of the blame. Fulham must fancy their chances if they watched that rubbish
-
We are in a complete mess. We so badly need a centre forward to lead the line — but as I keep saying, unless we change the way we play , he would never see the ball !! Also agree we have no leader and that’s what Rudi was, our leader. I rated Tuchel but beginning to think I was wrong — one dimensional and he seems obsessed with Jorginho . We are just soooooo boring
-
The commentator just said “they go backwards a lot” — he’s not wrong there !!
-
A total mess. Ruben,Jorginho just not good enough and even Mason has lost his spark. Desperately need a centre forward, but then if we had one we would never get him the ball !! I hate to say it but the manager must take a massive chunk of blame m, we only have one play of playing and as I keep saying possession alone doesn’t win football games. A shambles !!
-
As I have posted before possession is a wonderful thing — but it doesn’t win you football matches. One thing does that — GOALS !! Until we get the ball forward more quickly instead of sideways and backwards, we will never get the best out of any striker we have currently or are looking to sign The insistence of playing out from the back EVERY TIME leads to mistakes , like today. Let’s get a few more players going past opponents and creating space and get people shooting the ball — rather than this slow tempo dross that we often revert to
-
A complete shambles. If Tuchel really is an “elite coach”, he needs a long look in the mirror. We just looked a complete mess - no passion, way too many players were totally non existent including Kai,Mason,Jorginho and we never looked in the game. We weren’t even unlucky , we hit self destruct !! Dreadful
-
Also, I know we had a difficult start to the pre-season for obvious reasons but the transfer policy , or lack of it, has been a joke. We haven’t got one first choice signing — we missed out on Kunde and Jesus and if you believe the papers Maguire is now in the frame - that would be the end !!! A scatter gun approach which makes us look a joke
-
I have no idea what I am watching. We can’t play with a striker because we take too long to get the ball forward — but we can’t play without one as we will never score enough goals to consistently win games. Jorginho/Loftus-Cheek just not good enough to run midfield. Even Mason needs to raise his game !! A total shambles
-
Can’t understand why we don’t seem interested in Gabriel Jesus. He is quick, knows the Premiership and is the right age. Let Lukaku go back to Italy and spend £50 million of the money on Jesus — I think he would be an ideal fit.
