Stones was excellent against City, nitpicking his performance is embarrassing considering he's already better than Cahill is despite his inexperience. Fact is Stones is the most gifted CB of his generation along with Varane. He passes through the lines with ease, he has the diagonal in his locker, composure galore, pace, strength, great in the air, excellent reading of the game, clean tackler etc He isn't your run of the mill defender, he's a special talent.

Would be class if he learnt how to play football again. He's been terrible for months now. Forget the 5-3 Tottenham game or the PSG match where he got schooled by Motta/Verratti this was easily his worst. Did his absolute best to throw away the game. I think Despiado is spot on about lack of competition being the biggest factor in his poor form. When he returned here he had a point to prove, now he's rested on his laurels & has gotten too comfortable.

Played as a #10 today with hardly any defensive duties so no flimsy excuses of blaming his ineffectiveness on Ivanovic can be used today. Pedro on the other hand played on the same flank & produced a World Class performance (was his debut better than any game Willian has ever had for us) despite putting in more work defensively than any of our other attackers. Notice, Ivanovic wasn't bombing up & down the flank like a maniac because we had a proper winger on that side? The only forward in all my years of watching Chelsea that's lauded more for his defensive duties than the actual quality he has. You're insane if you think Oscar won't bench him.
