  1. Coutinho did nothing in the first half of the season. Oscar did nothing in the second half of the season. They both still have a lot to prove. Coutinho can be fantastic, but he can also look very ordinary (though his technique always allows him to produce one moment of beauty).
  2. Thank God for Messi. Cristiano is a historic player, but he lacks the magic of the greats.
  3. The reason he's been a Villa player for so long is his price. He's good when he's in form, but 20+ mil pounds for a player of his calibre is silly. Yaya seems to be on the way out. I know agents like to put pressure on the clubs, but saying there's 90% chance of him leaving is very high. So I think it's true. The question is why though. Why would he abandon such a fat contract? Unless his comments on money not being (very) important are true. Either that or PSG are prepared to match his wages.
  4. Great move for Memphis, very happy for him. Fantastic talent. I hope they're not expecting him to perform miracles though. Hazard was at a further stage in his development when he joined Chelsea, and has more natural ability. Depay could become a star in 2-3 years. Hope the board's not sleeping. I do not expect Utd to fully challenge for the title next season, but Chels can't afford to rest on their laurels either.
  5. Yeah, I hope that's the reason. He could also possibly be running too much. He's still fairly new to the DM role, he's still learning. As he get's older, he should learn to defend less physically and rely more on clever positioning. Even players who have been playing in defensive midfield their entire career usually peak in their late twenties/early thirties. Definitely. Same goes Willian with his left foot.
  6. Don't let the height and frame fool you, Tomo. Pogba is no player for a role in front in of defence. He's very much a player for the Lampard role in terms of positional freedom, moving forward at any opportunity.
  7. Fair point on Matic. His form did really drop around Feb. I do think he has picked up his form in the past 3 or 4 games though. He was beastly in the first half of the season though. He was everywhere and was carrying the midfield in the big games. Constantly winning the ball early, and distributing it calmly. Majority of football fans were raving about him and wished they had him in their team. Best defensive stats in the league by far, one of the very best in the CL as well.
  8. Heynckes was a loser in 11/12, and the best thing to happen to Bayern in 12/13. That sums up football. There's no telling how Heynckes would've done if he stayed. You don't win trebles on the regular. Staying on top is harder than reaching the top. That's what made Barca special in 2008-2012. Mourinho left Inter after they won the treble. Brilliant move. Inter crumbled immediately. Guardiola wants to be too clever. He has these grand ideas, but they require perfect execution. When that doesn't happen, you could be heavily exposed. To his credit, he wasn't too stubborn to change. Barca should've scored a goal, but Neuer saved them and it stayed 0-0 at half time. The game looked like it was going to stay 0-0 in the second half, the game was very evenly balanced. But Messi went into god-mode for the last 15 min and won the game. Bayern created just 1 opportunity. Lack of creativity hurt them, but Barca also defended expertly. Fantastic pressing and Mascherano was brilliant at the back. Snuffing out any possible danger.
  9. You're one tough customer to please, Spike. But I can understand your ratings. This is very important. Multiple players suffering form drops at the same time. It really hurt the team. But the question is how did it happen? Is it simply fatigue? But why would Mourinho let that happen? Some say he barely rotated to maintain the lead at the top. But remember that the lead was lost. Man City came back to level points I think, until they imploded.
  10. I disagree. Most of his errors had nothing to do with his attacking role. Ivanovic would be at the back, but either position himself poorly, completely switch off for a second or two or simply fail to act. And this happened more than a few times. His lack of pace hurting him as well. Ivanovic must be the slowest fullback at top level. You're right when you say he's also produced some top performances, and I gave him credit for it. Again, crucial goals and assists. But plenty of average or poor performances on both ends of the pitch as well. He could be performing poorly, and suddenly score a goal or deliver a fantastic cross. Bizarre. A season of constant ups and downs for me. And especially at his age, I honestly hope he is replaced next season. Thanks for reacting. Some interesting ratings.
  11. Nice. Barca was my pick for the final, could not decide on a 2nd finalist. Never thought Juve would reach the semis, let alone a possible final. Messi is such a dork.
  12. As we all know, Chelsea's season was very much a season of two halves in terms of performance levels. I would like to know how the fans would rate the players for their performances in the first and second half of 14/15, on a scale of 1-10 (Messi being a 21). Wanted to add that a 10 is not a perfect score. No such thing as perfection in football. It simply indicates top quality showings and crucial contributions to the team. Courtois - 7 & 8 Ivanovic - 5 & 6 Cahill - 5 & 7 Terry - 7 & 10 Azpilicueta - 7 & 7 Fabregas - 10 & 6 Matic - 9 & 6 Willian - 5 & 7 Oscar - 7 & 4 Hazard - 8 & 10 Costa - 9 & 7 Ivanovic was the hardest to rate. I'm still a member of his fan club (shirts, boxers and socks printed with tiny Ivanovic faces all over for every new member). But this was a very strange season. He scored and provided crucial goals and assists, coupled with some top performances. But he also made a high amount of individual errors, at an unacceptable level imo, and plenty of average/poor performances. So I just went with a 6 & 6. Could've been a 5 & 6.
  13. Another worldie. That's what you call a counter-attack. Masterclass of precision and speed.
  14. I know you're not entirely serious, but 45% with 15 shots (8 shots on target) hardly compares to possession below 35%, or even 30%, and 2, 3 shots (0 or 1 shot on target).
  15. Hmm, interesting. Does that mean not one match would've been lost if he played in those three games? And what about Azpi's influence on Terry? Hazard and Terry were better overall imo, especially in terms of consistency. Matic was great of course, but also struggled for a good part of the season. Costa was crucial with his goals, physical presence and off the ball running up front. Cesc with his creativity (Ramires, Oscar and Willian aren't very helpful in this area), especially in the first half of the season when he was simply on fire. Think Costa, Cesc and Matic all make a strong claim for 3rd best.
  16. This Barca side have a lot more to prove before comparisons with Pep's Barca can be made. They dominated football, winning a ridiculous amount of trophies. Pep's Barca dominated every match. Opponents barely had the ball. They conceded a very low amount of goals. Pep's Barca had a better defence and midfield imo. Puyol and Abidal over Mascherano and Alba for me. Prime Xavi over Rakitic. Iniesta and Alves in their prime. As for being more effective... I think you're forgetting how often they scored. I think it's pretty evenly matched. I'm sure Messi alone scored over 200 goals under Pep. 12-13 and 13-14 Barca were a lot less effective, yeah.
  17. The match was evenly balanced in the second half, and then Messi decided to make the difference. Speed in transition killed them, it was to be expected. Barca deserved winners, better team over 90 min. That second goal.. ugh. Classic Messi. Boateng fainting like he was sentenced for life. Bayern failing to create chances without Robben and Ribery. Again, they're not the same without them. No one would be. Take out Messi and Neymar and Barca look a lot more ordinary as well. But Guardiola took a huge risk playing such a high line, trying to force the away goal. Backfired miserably, conceding a third. Guardiola's rep taking another hit. When will Luis Enrique receive his praise? Barca's so different. The precision is not nearly the same, but a lot more direct and pacey. And they're now capable of playing in a stretched playing field. With that super trio up front, they're definitely the favourites for the title. Which could mean another treble. Ridiculous.
  18. Barca's pressing is relentless though.
  19. That went by fast. Really enjoyed that first half. Barca should've scored. 2-3 great chances to score, and some other decent opportunities. Bayern with the Lewandowski chance after that brilliant ball by Muller. Looking forward to the second half.
  20. Terrible refereeing, Ballack chasing down Ovrebo (that was hilarious), tension you could feel deep in the forests of Sudan, a legendary last minute goal, the whole world against Chelsea and everyone supporting Barca, Drogba facing the camera afterwards with a look in his eyes that could kill. Yes, the match had everything. I still don't remember it fondly though. Maybe one day I'll be able to watch it again.
  21. Goal of the season is tough. Schurrle vs Burnley, Cesc vs Crystal Palace, Costa vs Arsenal, Ramires vs Leicester. So many I don't remember as well. Moment of the season: Away vs Schalke. A display of fantasy football. The day I see my team approach a match vs a top team with the same swagger, determination and confidence in their ability will be a dream come true.
  22. Cesc was so good in the first half of the season. It was as if he was playing in slow-motion.
  23. Barcelona for me. Find them more enjoyable to watch. This game is very interesting though. Both teams want the ball. Both teams usually play with a high line. But Bayern is weakened. Think Barca's pace in transition will be decisive.
  24. Rematch was not fantastic! 3-5 chances, not one went in. And that goal still stings.
  25. Hiddink went straight catenaccio at Camp Nou though. I still remember that game. Ultra defensive. Though unlike 2012 it was well executed if I remember correctly. They hardly created a chance, but neither did Chelsea.
