I would actually say full back is more important than centre back.
At least if we brought a full back it would free up Ivanovic to play at centre back when needed where he is a much better player and less exposed than out wide.
Also, if we only brought a centre back it would be a guarantee then that we would have Dave at LB and Ivanovic at RB for the rest of the season which is a lot worse than Terry and Cahill at CB.

The thing about our CB chase this summer that makes the situation even more frustrating and pisses me off is that our rivals have almost all gone out and signed their own. United got Bailley almost instantly and with zero fuss. City took longer with Stones but we knew for ages he would go there. They already had about £80m worth of CB's on their books but just easily went out and spent £50m on another. Even Liverpool have gone out and got themselves a starting CB.
Yet here we are with mere days before the window closes with no new defenders and the same group who were hopeless last season and are already looking just as shaky so far this one. It's almost inconceivable.
Our club is literally doing an Arsenal. The fans can all see the problem areas and the manager keeps saying over and over that we definitely need new players but the club are struggling with every deal.
Honestly, I wouldn't be totally shocked if the deadline passes without any more signings. We'll hear the famous Wenger line from Conte that the "value wasn't there" and that the club didn't want to pay huge prices for players. Also, "I'm happy with the squad I have" like José said through gritted teeth before the implosion.

We have been Stones'ed again. For the second time, just a year later. 
The club hasn't learned from it's mistakes.
Also, the second time this transferwindow we've got played by a players agent (Nainggolan). 

Waiting a week before the end of the window to try for different players is really fucking stupid though.

And Conte will be sacked at the end of december and Guus Hiddink will come in again and draw every game with Mikel and Matic as the core midfielders.

Lol it's the Same story than one year ago... Stones even requested a Transfer wish and Everton said no... So why should Napoli and especially De Laurentis Sell him so late in This transfer period???

Say what you want to stay but I think we would have got him if we wrapped it up before Juve took Higuain. Also think we would have got Nainggolan if we stopped low-balling before Juve came in and bought Pjanic in matter of days.
It's a shame really, it was a real chance to have a top draw signing. Now we have to settle for inferior alternatives. We will still get massive upgrades in Maksimovic or Manolas (that ship has probably long sailed by now) but to think we missed out on one of the best CBs in the world kind of hurts.

Let's not ever forget who is bankrolling this club and how we're able to make these expensive signings.
The fact is Roman is nowhere near as wealthy or as willing to spend money as he was when he first took over the club 13 years ago. He can no longer compete with the amount of money the two Manchester clubs are able to shed season after season. 
And this is disastrous for us since we took 10 steps backwards after Mourinho's 2nd coming. Any rebuild is going to be a slow and ardous one. We can't simply spend our way out of the current problems we have. It's possible we don't make any other signings this summer.  This is one of the most critical seasons in our history. If we don't qualify for the CL this season, we are in serious trouble.

I hate that I have to keep saying these negative things about all these players because we have lots of very good memories with them. I wouldn't even mind if they were squad players for us but they should not be starting. Unfortunately the club persists with these selections until the players become villains in the eyes of the fans. Ivanovic is WAY past it.

Getting pretty pissed at the club tbh. Of course they cannot help it that Napoli are huge asses like Everton to deal with, but that they seem not to have a GOOD replacement lined up. 
It all started last year, with Mou being unable to get his targets. Of course, the club doesn't have the power (anymore) to get the players who they want but they are milking this Koulibaly saga for too long now. They already could've gotten Mustafi or even Stefan de Vrij (also a very good choice, as I know him from his Feyenoord period and also for being Dutch) or even Maksimovic. And I would get him just to fuck with Napoli.  
Point is, just like last year at the end of the transferwindow, we are with empty hands an no new defenders. Maybe panic purchases like Papy.  
Even IF De Laurentiis gets Maksimovic, who says he's going to sell K2???? 
Move on Chelsea...for goodness sake. 

Probably going to be azpi Ivan again. But it's not as if selections like that caused our worst season in decades....

And you assume we're in a situation to be so nitpicky about our CB options? I don't mean to say we should be daft and go buy the first CB available, but it should be clear as day that Koulibaly is by far the best available option on the market and we shouldn't be afraid to overpay a little for a CB given the fact we have such bad defenders in our current squad. We simply cannot risk to miss out on Champions League again.

And tell us how Mahrez will help our bloomin defence.
I really can't see the problem.
We are in dire need of a good CB.
Theres a chance that we might be able to solve our problem what do we do?
Answer - We do all we can to buy that player.
We have and will be making money from selling players we apparently dont need  so its obviously going towards players we need.
I asked earlier just what we are doing with this extra TV money thats supposedly put teams onto an equal footing. IF we supposedlly were a rich club before the TV money rise then we should be at least that much richer now.
If we dont buy the standard of players we need to get ourselves on a more equal footing with the 9 teams ahead of us then we shall be playing to much less crowds against lower divison teams in our big new shiney stadium.

What's worse is that Alderweireld and Meunier could have been had for 20 million pounds or less which would have made the defense much better. Now we're looking out at missing out on a defender for 40 million + and looking at having Terry,Cahill, and Ivanovic on the back line. 

He is going to renew and Mustafi is going to sign for Arsenal.

If this transfer fails then the board has failed if they cannot bring in suitable secondary options. The back line was atrocious last year and the board failed to bring in a replacement as they whiffed. A second year of not bringing in a few defenders would be a colossal failure.
With a few additions on the back club this team is capable of challenging for the title. Without them this team will likely finish upper table but out of champions league spots.

So if you're so inured to the Chelsea situation, what causes you to come on the forum and post this as a response to someone else's post?
