  12. The Telegraph reports that Chelsea representatives are to meet with Bruno Satin, the agent of Atletico de Madrid hotshot Sergio Aguero, in the hope that the player will agree to terms with the west London club. TheCAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) has temporarily suspended thetransfer ban on the Roman Abramovich-owned club, who are consequentlyfree to bring in talent during the winter. Aguero has beenheavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in recent times, and wasreportedly close to a switch in the summer. Now, it is claimedthat the Blues are set to shatter the British transfer record bybringing in the 21-year-old striker for a fee believed to be in theregion of £40 million. The record currently stands at £32.5m for the transfer of Robinho from Real Madrid to Manchester City. Atletiare allegedly hoping to strike a hard bargain with the Blues, butbelieve that the pivotal point in the deal will be the meeting withSatin on Monday, as the player's representative is said to be demandingan agent's fee of around £5m if the transfer should go through. Itis also believed that Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has an eye castin the direction of Bayern Munich in the hope of mounting a bid forFranck Ribery once the Aguero deal reaches fruition.
  13. Chelsea on verge of signing Sergio Agüero for £40m from Atlético Madrid Chelsea are expected to clinch a British-record £40 million transfer deal to sign the Argentine international Sergio Agüero at a meeting scheduled with his agents next Monday. The 21-year-old Atlético Madrid striker is close to agreeing terms with Chelsea who had inquired about his availability during the summer. At that time Agüero had demanded a salary of more than £6 million-a-year which would have made him Chelsea's highest paid player – which the club balked at – but it is hoped he will now compromise on his wages. Chelsea will meet his agent Bruno Satin, who is head of the football division of IMG, one of the world's biggest sports agencies, on Monday to hopefully agree a deal after Atlético finally sanctioned Agüero's sale earlier this week. The Spanish club are still hoping to receive more than £50 million for Agüero but, it's understood, are now more willing to compromise on the transfer fee if a deal can be done. Nevertheless, a transfer of £40 million would represent a Premier League record, smashing the £32.5 million paid last year by Manchester City for Robinho, and would also be a restatement of Chelsea's intent, having not spent hugely under owner Roman Abramovich over the past three years. Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has targeted Agüero as one of his major signings during the January transfer window. The club have been given permission to buy and sell after the Fifa-imposed transfer ban, following the Gaël Kakuta affair, was frozen pending an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Agüero scored two spectacular goals during the recent 2-2 draw with Chelsea in the Champions League. After the match Ancelotti joked that he would like to sign the exciting striker but it appears he was deadly earnest. A meeting took place earlier this week with Chelsea discussing their strategy as to how they could acquire Agüero. Satin has also been demanding a hefty agent's fee – thought to be as much as £5 million – for the deal to go through but, again, he may be willing to compromise. If Chelsea sign Agüero, as all parties now expect, it will represent something of a coup especially as it was thought they may struggle to acquire big-name players in January. Indeed Chelsea may follow up the deal with a move for Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery, who would command a similar fee and who is also greatly admired by Ancelotti. The deal for Agüero is sensitive for Atlético, who have struggled this season. The striker is their main asset and also a huge fans' favourite and the club's board has been concerned about alienating supporters. Satin is in Brazil at the moment, having also travelled to Argentina, to try to clinch a number of deals to sign players who could replace Agüero in the fans' affection. Such is Chelsea's determination to secure the deal they may, eventually, be willing to go beyond the apparent ceiling of £40 million that was set to sign Agüero. They are acutely aware that if their CAS appeal fails, they cannot make another signing for some time. Even so Agüero will not be eligible for Chelsea in the Champions League this season, having already played for Atlético. If Agüero does sign it will cast some doubt on the first-team future of Nicolas Anelka, with Ancelotti set to partner the Argentine with Didier Drogba in a preferred two-man attack. Chelsea also remain keen on Benfica's Angel Di Maria, but deem the fee demanded for him too high, and Everton's Jack Rodwell. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/premierleague/Chelsea/6592672/Chelsea-on-verge-of-signing-Sergio-Aguero-for-40m-from-Atletico-Madrid.html

  16. Abramovich being sued for 5 BILLION Dollars! In the biggest claim for damages ever proposed in an English court, the Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is being sued for $5billion by another Russian, Boris Berezovsky. I know that Roman can be a little touchy when it comes to people reporting on his private life, so i think it will be safer if i just give you the article from TheLawyer.com, which i am sure knows what it can print and what it can’t! The article said: “Brick Court Chambers’ Andrew Popplewell QC went to the High Court last week (2 November) in a bid to strike out a $5bn (£3.05bn) claim against his client, Russian billionaire and Chelsea FC owner Roman Abramovich. The hearing began before the court’s summer recess and is expected to continue for another week. One partner close to the case said it is “unprecedented” for the Commercial Court, which sits in the High Court, to spend three weeks on a strike out hearing. Appearing on behalf of Russian businessman Boris Berezovsky, One Essex Court’s Laurence Rabinowitz QC argued that Abramovich used intimidation to force his client to sell shares in Russian oil company Sibneft and TV channel ORT at a discounted price. Berezovsky was granted political asylum in the UK after fleeing Russia, where he was wanted on charges of fraud and political corruption, in 2001. Attempts to extradite him have been rejected by the UK courts. The Russian oligarch is seeking between $3bn and $5bn in damages for breach of contract, breach of trust and breach of fiduciary claims. It is thought to be one of the largest claims ever to be heard in the Commercial Court. Popplewell argued that the claim should be thrown out because it has little chance of succeeding. Rabinowitz has been instructed by Addleshaw Goddard partner Mark Hastings, while Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom partner Paul Mitchard QC instructed Popplewell for Abramovich.” So there you have it. It looks like it could be an interesting couple of weeks up at the High Court!
