We can't sign Koulibaly from Napoli and we are probably going to fall back on Rudiger. Nevermind selling Willian of all people and think about replacing him with a player of higher quality. Not going to happen. Which are these players of higher quality who would come? And why would we make our already full hands, fuller with yet another position to fill in? There's a black hole binary system orbiting around our defence and midfield before we can even think about other areas of the pitch.

While we have no idea what the board is doing, early signs are not encouraging at all. One would think that after such a season, a club like Chelsea would have ready at least 2 signings before the euros. Keeping also in mind that this "inactivity" is coming after a whole two transfer windows or relative inactivity, it does not look rosy at all.

As I see it, Baba should be sold, Aké used as back up option and Da Silva is far from ready. FB does happen to be one of the positions where we need reinforcements, we have only Azpi. While Rodriguez can be considered suspect defensively, I would have him here without thinking twice.

Not at all. He can be a complete liability at times, at any given moment he can fuck up on the ball and doesn't seem to truly commit on tackles. To be fair to him, under Spalletti (second half of the season) he has improved a lot and has had some really decent games, but should we really taking a gamble such as this in defence? The big question is, can Conte take the best out of him and make him play decently? Yes, he most certainly is able of that, with time. Is time something we have on our hands? Absolutely not. We need to fire from all cylinders from the get go come august. What we can do with him is take him as a back-up and slowly blood him in the first team, then we would have on our hands a decent-ish CB. But we should really look to someone able to play at a top level since day 1.

One thing is spending 65m pound for a player we ultimately don't need and wouldn't add anything to our team. Another thing is penny pinching on a position such as CB where we are severely lacking in quality.
