  1. 5 signings. The exact replica of the Chelsea situation was Olympiakos Piraeus of 1987-88. In 1986-87 they won the championship. In 1987-88 they became relegation strugglers, quite against expectation. Then the tycoon George Koskotas became board manager and started buying everything. It was late but Oly came back and they won the cup. In the summer more signings took place, the famous one being Lajos Detari from Eintracht Frankfurt. The Koskotas family were engulfed in a huge economic scandal just a little later and in fact the government had to resign, but that's a different story. Had it not been for the Koskotas money (scandalously earned as well) Oly was a write off, for years at any rate.
  2. Ranieri lools like an extreme case. Lost to the Hebrides - Seychelles now he seems to be doing well. It proves to me that the board decisions is what influences football fortunes rather than managers. In the case of the Greek national squad, the old guard retired, the youths are amateurs.
  3. Mourinho appears useless in buying - transfer listing players. He is good at the bench imho but does n't work for him now.
  4. My criticism of Chelsea matches is no longer based on comparisons with 2014-15, 2013-14. It's a mid-table team as things stand. Bearing this in mind, Chelsea deserved more today. Remy's penalty should have been given - because no advantage accrued. The clinching detail was in my opinion Diego Costa's ineffectiveness. Diego Costa received some good balls but it seems he can only use his shins for control. Slow boat to China. Hazard-Pedro-Ramirez tried some long ones but no luck and Cesc is Spanish waiter in Chancery Lane coffee shop, thereabouts.
  5. It's L'pool obviously. I don't know why though. Never been there. Drove through with car only. I remember the church and I was disappointed because the harbour was blocked with fences allover and there was nothing to see.
  6. Gooners on the way out in the CL to Olympiakos Piraeus ! They used to come to Piraeus in previous seasons with depleted squad after having secured qualification, so helping Olympiakos go through as seconds. This time they are against the ropes. They need to beat Dynamo Zagreb in their next match and then a two goal win in Piraeus. In the Emirates Olympiakos beat them 3-2. Arsenal equalized twice and then lost ! You think they are done ? In the league it looks like one of their good seasons, as Arsenal goes.
  7. Kiyv are the equivalent of a midtable PL team. Against Porto it will be more interesting.
  8. We seem to have problems. This is not a team that shows signs of instability, after a championship winning season. Juve seems to be one such in Italy. What we 've got here is total eclipse.
  9. Many times but not always. The players of the premier league are not the types who throw the towel compared to the players of other leagues but ultimately they follow the same laws of nature.
  10. When you are down by two-three goals you don't care, but it is also a consequence of consecutive defeats. The player says "I 'm through, I 'm here till May, so forget it".
  11. I don't mind a low profile season. But this is Titanic, last minutes, holy cow ! Where will it end ?
  12. He is 23, she's 41. Sounds like Bonnie and Clyde. Eva Carneiro the voodooist is however a valid proposition. Stupid Jose did n't even tell the woman "don't go in there" and all that shouting of his, p*ta portuguesa and all the rest of it started when she was nearly back in the bench.
  13. Willian was never bad. Looked like he was to be transfer listed at times because he is n't tall. Now he looks like topest class because everyone else don't come to play.
  14. Well first of all gone are the days when a failure filled 98 pages. I do blame Mourinho because the ship has capsized. I don't blame him for today's events from 14.45 to 16.30. Unless the mischief maker is someone higher up.
  15. It's an all systems failure. Unwatchable. L'pool were no good either. I' m afraid it's the manager's problem. Unless he points to something else and gives thorough explanations. It's heads they win, tails he loses if he does that re. his stay at Chelsea but I 'm afraid it is so. There are two possibilities: The manager failed the company or the company itself failed. You can't blame individual players anymore. It's like a plague and we 're all sick. Also you can't blame it on depletion of the squad for such a thing did not happen this year.
  16. I know this thing about speed from myself. At the age of 20 I played in a college match after a long absence. During that absence I also had injections for back pains. For the first 5 minutes I ran up and down as fast as I could, mindful of the offside trap too. I managed a through ball to the right winger who missed it from close range. Then nearly collapsed. I stayed in but doing things real slow now. Rubbish. Best thing was when I took a corner kick later on. The next time the same feeling. But now my metabolism adjusted during play and I could do it. So it's like this. You move fast, you play well, you do useful things, spectators are excited. You move slow, they throw eggs.
  17. We are slow. 10 months now, the same thing. At first I thought it was a Mourinho tactic. Let time fly rather than go fast. Also we were in front early most matches. But it's not. It's a problem. Typically the midfield situation is sticky wicket and we see many back passes, when we expect forward movement. When at last we make a forward move, the final recipient, be it Hazard, Diego or someone else has to fight the battle of Stalingrad and win it before getting into a shooting position. 95% loses the ball - end of story. That was not so with Eto-Torres as also before, in Didier Drogba days. At the same time we seem to have a problem in defense too, with 10-12 goals conceded from set pieces plus that the no 1 goalkeeper Tibaut is injured. But the big deal is midfield-attack where things are not as they should. This is therefore what we need. Speed and sustained speed. Forget about all remarks concerning individuals, except in relation to running. We have become a team of pedestrians and it's the source of all the current troubles.
  18. This team lacks speed. Once speed is reestablished we 're back to business. United-Arsenal and City are w*nkos. Especially in Europe. The last two are waiting for ... Nigel Farage to prohibit Europe so they 're spared the embarassment.
  19. The best football manager of all time: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jen%C5%91_Csakn%C3%A1dy
  20. In the first half it looked like the Chelsea of old. Fast running, four or five good chances, we should have gone ahead really. Not so in the second half, even before their goal - we were down physically. In the ET some good chances again -against 10 men now- but again no penetration.
  21. More bitter poison. Against a non-entity. There were numerous flows. In the second half the team was tired. Stoke were also tired and they conceded Remy's equalizer in the last minute of normal time. There were a number of chances but when we attack there is no movement in the box. We pray for a miracle or a slip by a defender. There is no killer instinct and that's a word invented by Mourinho, only he has imparted none of it to the team.
  22. The offside cannot be cured by video technology. In this case the West Ham goalkeeper will say "hold on, I saw the flag and I did n't really try hard enough, what do you mean by letting the goal stand ?". You can correct many other things. Yaya Toure's corner decision early in the UTD - City match for instance. A robot lineseman hovering above the ground and equipped with sensors may, in some future time.
  23. The line follows the grass pattern so it's ok. The only possibility of an offside is if it is not really the moment Willian makes the pass.
