Kid looks interesting in that youtube video. Has some nice tools but a few of his touches are too flamboyant. Flamboyant isn't a bad thing in itself. To have the ability to do it when required is one sign of a good player, but when it's not required it's a hindrance not a help. Controlling the ball so that it pops up then falls back where you want it looks nice but it takes longer than a simpler touch and can rob you of the split second which makes all the difference. In that vid, there are moments when I'd say he appears to take his time, rather than simply have time because he does everything efficiently. There's a difference. I really like Nya's M.O. but he's going to require some coaching and if he is still playing school football then he should stop. Playing in games where he's a mile better than everyone else is only going to encourage extravagant touches when in fact he needs to develop his understanding of how and when to ration those. I hope the young man will get that coaching but, although I'm a long term supporter of, and apologist for, the academy, they are yet to convince me that they are fully delivering on their first, basic remit. I'm not talking about churning out first team squad members for CFC, but of the function which comes before that. The basic function of any educational establishment is to help the student maximise their potential. I'd like to believe we are achieving that but some of the evidence is doubtful. For example, I'm not persuaded that we have helped Jed, Charly or Ruben make the most of what they have. Footballers, nor their coaches, can do anything about a lack of talent,you can't teach that, but it seems to me that the flaws in the games of those three lads are teachable things. They don't seem to have been taught however. I don't know why Nya and his family decided to move but I hope it is more than just the contract on offer. I hope they have made a good choice, that Nya learns everything he needs to, that he enjoys his football and that he achieves his goals. Welcome son.

For me Pat has more to prove before I could endorse the top notch assessment but I hope Villa happens and that it turns out to be a good step for him.

I've seen nothing in his game which suggests that he can be a Chelsea player, and I can think of no reason, other than financial, why he should want to be a back up here. He should be allowed to move on as soon as it is sensible to do so.

People choose who they support and why they support who they do. I just feel some people would be much happier if they supported Arsenal instead of Chelsea. I know I would be if they did.

Yes. It's uefa's pathetic attempt to compensate national FAs after they complained that the watering down of the qualification stage for the Euros meant that some countries faced virtually no genuinely competitive football for two years. (As was the case with England for example.) Instead of cancelling the money grabbing silliness of a hopelessly easy qualifying campaign so as to reach a 24-team tournament where it takes 36 matches to eliminate almost nobody from the first round, they just lobbed this manufactured nonsense on top. I hate uefa. Of course we fans have no one to blame but ourselves. If we treated the Mickey-Mouse fixtures with the contempt they deserve, football bodies would have to do better in order to sell tickets and TV contracts. As long as the FA can sell out Wembley and pull in the TV audience for cakewalk fixtures against no-hope opposition however, they will just keep serving that stuff up.

Really want this deal to happen so fingers crossed.

I don't know as much about Batshuyai as you do so I can't be as bullish as you are about his prospects but I know that I like what I see and that what I have seen (90 minutes vs Rennes + youtube) suggests to me he is a level above Patrick Bamford, who, with or without the addition of Batshuyai, would not hold down a place in our squad in my opinion. Let's give chances to people whose skills give them a chance, let's not invest false hopes in players whose skills make further progress a challenge for them. You will of course make your own choice about it, but one thing I think we do owe our players is enough respect to at least try to get their names right.

I was once in a crowd of 8,000 at The Bridge (Bristol Rovers home, 1976) but I don't fully agree with the JCL bit. There is an impact of the hooliganism and racist behaviour we suffered in the dark days which I think people fail to take fully into account. A lot of solid people were disgusted by the behaviour and the atmosphere of threat they encountered when watching Chelsea. Decent fans were driven away from the club by it. David Mellor takes a lot of stick for being one of thoset. He was by no means the no means the only Chelsea fan to wash his/her hands and say I want no part of the violence, the anti-Semitic songs, the monkey-chanting, or the ugly side of skin-head culture. The only times I was threatened with violence at a football match happened at Chelsea and all three times it was Chelsea fans doing the threatening. Thousands, upon thousands of match going supporters were lost to the club at that time. My own dad refused to take me to The Bridge, which is how come my first Chelsea game was actually at Highbury. Here's the thing however, those people stopped showing up, and as a result their kids never acquired the match going habit, but the families remained Chelsea families. The club was still in the blood so, when times improved and the message began to spread that it was safe to get back to watching games in the flesh, those people and/or their now grown up kids began to return. Technically some of them were indeed new fans (not that there is anything wrong with that) but really they were just returning to the fold.

I don't think Dom deserves a chance. I see no reason to hope he'll get one in the coming season. I'd much rather see him try to make a step forward somewhere he'll get minutes.

You are right of course. If you are saying that you think Patrick is good and that he therefore deserves a chance at Chelsea then, although I vehemently disagree with it, I nevertheless respect it as an opinion. If however anyone says Pat's young so give him a chance, that cuts no ice with me. Youngsters don't deserve games because they are young, they deserve minutes if they are young and they are good. Before they get those minutes, they must persuade someone that they deserve them. Patrick has not yet made a strong case for himself to any Chelsea manager and nor did he to Alan Pardue.

The information Matt law bases his story on may be accurate, but the claims could still be wrong. This could very easily be a plant by Kante's agent intend to say to other interested clubs, that it's time to bid up either the wages offered to the player, or the fee offered to the agent, or both. Journalists must know, or at least must get a feel for when a story is a plant but they'll likely go with it anyway for a couple of reasons. A story they can stand up is still a story and they can do deals with agents where they do her/him a favour by running the story in exchange for early access to some information or other later on.

But what will you see? If you think the validity of my comment might be judged by the outcome of Kenneth future with Chelsea, then you have misunderstood my point. Kenneth clearly has very little chance of a future with the club but that does not rule out the likelihood that the loan is the correct decision for next season. The factors determining whether that is, or is not, so will never be 'seen' by you and me. A situation which further underlines my point that it is rash to issue judgement when you don't know many of the facts. I would have said that we don't know any of the facts but we do know one, namely that Ken is going on loan. The reasons for it, the factors which justify this as the best option available, are not matters which are ever likely to be made public. So, to condemn the people making these decisions, you would have to assume that they look at all factors and then make a stupid or illogical choice. As I didn't quite say, but I hope I implied, it would be deeply arrogant of you and me to imagine that people, including those representing Kenneth, are going to look at all the options, then pick the stupid one. It's possible they might, but it's not likely. My money remains on the probability that if you and I knew all of the considerations in hand, we would make the same choice, i.e. we'd send Kenneth on loan too. Much as it sometimes satisfies us all to imagine that they don't know what they're doing, and that we are much cleverer than everybody else, reality just isn't like that.

I'm hoping to see this deal completed too but, assuming it is happening, I seriously doubt we'll see anything confirmed today. Chelsea are just ridiculously cautious about making official announcements. Whatever it is we wait for before putting the news out takes its own sweet time.

I'm not one of those who was calling for Pat to be brought into Chelsea's squad. After watching Pat play for the development teams following his arrival from Forest I'm afraid I wrote off his chances of ever becoming a Chelsea first-teamer. Someone recently posted the opinion that Pat had outgrown the Championship but I think that's wrong. I hope for Pat's sake that this may be true one day but I'm not convinced it ever will be. It certainly is not true at the moment. Batshuayi, on the other hand, does look to me to have the quality required to make the grade for Chelsea. That's not to say it's guaranteed but, in my opinion, his skills give him a chance, whereas Pat's do not. For me, judgement always trumps statistics. Van Persie produced outstanding stats at PSV then Kezman produced even better ones. Once having watched the two players however, only an idiot could have concluded that Kezman was the better player. I doubt any of us who use this site would have required more than 15 minutes to see that van Persie was a quality footballer and that Kezman was not.

I'd rather see you fall flat on your face. If United finish runners up in The Cap One, The FA Cup, & The League to Chelsea in each case, then win the Europa League, that'll be fine with me.

And frankly I'm fed up with people who are more or less the same as me, that is to say enthusiastic and serious football fans but no more than that, who, despite knowing none of the pertinent facts, manage to believe they know more about running a football club than people who actually do it. The people who run the club are numerous and bring varied skill sets to the table. They are experienced in many areas, both business and footballing plus they have the same basic grounding that we here have because almost all of them are football fans too. On top of all that they do know all the facts. If Kenneth is going on loan again there must be a reason for it, many reasons probably. We can all come up thoughts about what those reasons may be, but all we really need is the sense to understand that there is some reason. Those involved; Kenneth, his people, club officers both administrative and footballing, etc, have looked at this from their varying angles and all have signed off on this solution. It is possible that you and others are right, while those actually involved are wrong but I know where my money is. Edit: I should mention that the people in charge of CFC, who have been characterised by members of this forum as stupid, ignorant, unfit to hold their jobs, and even as deliberately setting out to ruin the club, have nevertheless made Chelsea the second most successful team in England over the past 13 seasons.

I understand what you're saying, and understand too that you are not directly comparing Patrick Bamford with Michy Batshuayi or expressing an opinion on that comparison, but... I doubt there are any football fans who hold up stats as the be-all and end-all of football analysis and this comparison is a great example of why. What percentage of fans who watch Bamford and Batshuayi play, would then conclude that Pat is the better player? I'd be surprised if it was as many 5%. My point is that Batshuayi's case can't be set aside because of the status of the league he played in last season and nor can Pat's case be advanced because he produced reasonable statistics in a league claimed to be superior to France's top division. At some point people have to exercise their judgement and when they do, there can surely be only one winner.

Says nothing about the board but it might say a little something about the person who wrote the script.
