  1. I don't believe Mourinho rates Sporting as a strong team. I would be surprised if he puts Chelsea's strongest 11. On the other hand, he probably doesn't want to risk looking bad in front of his country xD
  2. Lucky them. Sporting's academy is in the same standard as Barcelona's and Ajax's. We formed Cristiano and Figo and practically all high quality players of the starting 11 of the national team for the past decade. Even young kids who support other clubs, are known to choose Sporting as their academy till they grow older. We definitely have the most passionate fanbase in the country (although I'm a little biased here ) .
  3. He managed Benfica and Porto, our two rivals. At Porto I remember he made some very offensive comments about our club at some point so maybe the most fanatic fans still have a grudge against him because of that but most of us (at least the ones I know) have a neutral/positive idea of him.
  4. Messi last season won 0 trophies. Not to mention he was massively criticized by Barcelona's own fan base for dragging himself through the field in the club's most important games. He scored almost nothing against top teams last season. Even in the world cup, a hero against Iran, Bosnia, etc. and disappeared against Neatherlands, Germany, Belgium. Ronaldo will outscore him again this year. Specially considering Suarez will now be taking away goals from Messi. I'm not going to enter the debate of whether Ronaldo is better than Messi because everyone has his opinion but whether you like it or not, Ronaldo will be the Ballon D'or again this year. That's an unshakable fact. And I'm confident they will finish their careers with the same number of Ballon D'ors. 100 years from now, people will still be debating who was better.
  5. You didn't address my point that the best players from ALL continents are all concentrated in Europe today, making competition and individual brilliance extremely more difficult to achieve. Today professional football players go through at least 3 phases before they reach the top: - Play football with your local boys and your talent stands out. - Join a junior/professional club and play with other talented kids nationally and locally. - Your talent still stands out and you move to a stronger league/country where you'll be up against the very best players from all over the globe. To become the best, you have to rise in all of these three phases today. Yet Pele never had to go past the second phase. How many players show astonishing skill in phases 1/2 and then completely disappear when they come across the tactical and talent-rich football of Europe's top leagues? Brazil has a perfect example with Robinho. He was absolutely marvelous in Brazil, tearing apart all defenses and people said he would be the next Pele. He went to Real Madrid and after 1 season he was a bench warmer. Now imagine if Robinho played in the 60s and ALL his career was made in Brazil. People today would view footage of him and say he was one of the best of all time.
  6. His argument is actually valid. Pele, for example, played before the tactical revolution of total football. He played at a time where small teams were cannon fodder to be beaten 10-0 in a lot of games. Not unlike today where it's not uncommon for a small team to beat a big one (e.g. Leicester vs United) if the managers do a good job. Football is much more tactical and organized. Today players like Messi and Cristiano are given a very specific list of instructions whereas back then, the star of the team was just told to get in there and try to score goals. Besides, today the very best players from all continents are concentrated in Europe. Even small teams have players from all over the world. Which means players like Messi and Cristiano are competing at a level that Pele, for example, never had to deal with. Not even close. I do believe the top players today are much better than the ones from past generations. And certainly football will continue to evolve and 50 years from now those generations will be even better than the ones from today.
  7. - Play your strongest 11 against Schalke, be blamed for using your strongest 11 against a weak team, not taking into consideration City on weekend. - Don't play your strongest 11, be blamed for not doing it on such an important game.
  8. Fabregas would have gone to Arsenal if the club wanted him back. Ashley Cole didn't come to Chelsea to be a bench warmer. There are no double standards here.
  9. I wonder why a loan never took place.
  10. Best goalkeeper in the world next to Neuer and he is only 22 years old. God knows how good he will be when he reaches Neuer's age. We need to sign him for 10 years, not 5.
  11. If everyone is fit, this is arguably Manchester United's strongest XI.
  12. So a club with 3 quality strikers loans one of them out and then spends 20 million singing another one? It's as if Chelsea was to spend 20m for another quality goal keeper. What a joke of a club this Man Shitty is.
  13. Nope. Wrong again. The aim of the game is to score more goals than your opponent and win more points. The team that wins several games 10-0 will still lose the league to a team with less goals and more points. Believe it or not. Thus, it is the goal of every team to build itself in a way where it scores more and concedes less. By winning a game 3-0, that objective is fully complete. By winning a game 6-3, there are still things to work on. Please just log off.
  14. It's useless. All you see is goals goals goals, numbers numbers numbers. What the rest of us see is mistakes, discipline, defensive strength and intelligence.
  15. Football is not math. Football is football. By conceding 3 goals, it means the team showed vulnerability in defense. Mistakes were made. Maybe to a mathematician such as yourself, this is irrelevant but to someone who knows about football, this is something to worry about. Thus, I repeat, ANY top manager in the world, again, ANY top manager in the world, would take home a 3-0 result over a 6-3. It means the team did everything right and nothing wrong.
  16. The image is a little old. It says "Mourinho, thank you for fighting against tide and wind". And it refers mostly to the pressure Jose received when he benched Sergio Ramos (for a few games) and Casillas as those were considered untouchable players in the club.
  17. No it's not. ANY top manager in the world would take a 3-0 over a 6-3 result. With 6-3, Mourinho will have issues to worry about and work on to improve. With a 3-0, there would be nothing to address.
