Are we witnessing the permanent downfall of Manchester United as THE top club?
HD3D replied to HD3D's topic in Football Chat
But why do you keep comparing them to us? The Glazers are not Abramovich. For them, Manchester United is a business with one sole purpose: to enrich their family. The Glazers would be happy if United was a mid table team as long as that didn't damage the brand and the club's shares, which it does. You keep saying that a river of money will bring United back to the top and yes I do agree it could. I just don't believe that river of money will ever come, and if it does, I'm skeptical about how long it will last.- 142 replies

And all of that while playing for Moyes. Imagine him playing for a manager that has the ability to lift his confidence, make him believe he's better and stronger than he actually is, and create an emotional bond with him. How big would his work rate be then? Mourinho has the power to turn Rooney into a scary beast that will make international headlines. If he ever wants to find out just how far up his potential can go, he should come knocking on Chelsea's door. If he chooses to stay at that sinking ship for the 300k a week, then well, it's his career.

Tottenham spent 100 million last summer. Do you see them challenging for the title anytime soon? United spent 64 million on Fellaini and Mata and it didn't solve anything. They will have to give Moyes 30 million in compensation if they do decide to sack him. That's 94 million gone to the trash with a bunch of owners that HATE to spend money. How long will it be until the Glazers become more and more conservative about their investment? Perhaps United is not doomed just yet, but next year will be absolutely crucial. One mistake by the board could have massive consequences. I personally wish they hit the bottom face down. I know they would be having the biggest laugh at us if it was the other way around.- 142 replies

This Piligrini guy has no clue. He first walked into Jose territory by setting up an attacking team with disorganized defense that allowed Chelsea to play in the way it thrives on, which is counter-attack. He probably still has no idea how he managed to escape a 4-0/5-0 hammering. And now he's walking into Mourinho's territory again by letting him use the media as a weapon to get under his skin. The FA cup game hasn't even started yet and he's already losing. ^^

Except they don't have Ferguson anymore. Even if Ferguson acts as director of football and chooses the players HE thinks the team needs, there's no guarantee the new manager will know how to work with them. You didn't read my post. I do acknowledge that United has the capital to invest. But it's not as simple as it sounds: - The Glazers have always been unwilling to pour money into the club. - Financial fair play rules will prevent them from abusing in spending. - They will struggle to attract top players without CL football. - They don't have a top manager anymore, and whoever they hire will still not be as good as Ferguson. Now let me ask you something, what if the greedy Glazers do decide to inject a vast amount of money and the club continues to under preform? They have already spent big on Fellaini/Mata and got nothing out of it.- 142 replies

As is Pele. ^^

A lot of people claim they are just having a bad transitional period but if you actually take a closer look at it, the mess that they are in has all the ingredients to cause permanent damage and turn them into another Liverpool: - Clueless manager. - Aging team. - Huge debt. - Rich owners known for being greedy and only interested in milking the club for profit. ----- Now here's the gravity of these problems: - Their clueless manager seems to be protected by the club's belief that he needs time, which means they will allow him to do even more damage. I think it will only take 2 or 3 more years of this for United to lose its status and popularity as the EPL's top dog. By then, people will see them as "just another above-average club like Liverpool". It will be harder to attract players AND managers. - When they do start looking for a new manager, they will need a new world class manager on the level of Mou, Guardiola, Klopp or Ancelotti. But what are the odds such a manager would want to go to a club with no Champions league football, and unwilling to invest money to fix the squad's problems? - By the end of the season, how many of their best players will want out if given an offer by a title contender with CL football? - Even if the club's owners decided to inject a few hundred millions to lift the team, they are in debt and the Financial Fair Play rules would limit their spending. - No European football means not many world class players will want to join them. - They've been dominating the EPL for a decade. How much of their fanbase is composed by band wagoners who will now stop supporting the club? - This is a league with the likes of Chelsea, City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, etc. These are all teams with the power to slap them down every time they try to bounce back up. Every time United tries to sign a world class player, these clubs will be there to snatch him from them. Every time United tries to get top 4 or win a cup, these clubs will be there. The EPL is the most competitive league, what is the likelihood that they can continue to compete with us, with so many issues at hand?

Well, to be fair, they ARE bayern/barcelona fans lol.
-
Actually, all 3 of them were so eager to impress the manager that they ended up playing selfishly and ruining the opportunity. Which is ironic because at some point both Schurrle and Salah could have assisted one another in scoring a goal, but instead chose to go at it alone. If they had chosen to help each other, they would have impressed a lot more for coming on and changing the result.

First of, a player DOESN'T sign for a club if he doesn't want to. Secondly, Mourinho said Mata WANTED to go to United and not only has Mata not denied this, he actually CONFIRMED it in his goodbye letter to Chelsea fans: Mata: " I hope you understand that after going through a complicated and, for me, new situation in the last few months, I believe this is the best choice in order to carry on with my football career and to keep enjoying this sport. " Or did Mourinho also go ninja on Mata's mind and tricked him into writing that? There's a line that separates being in denial from being stupid, try not to cross it mate.

Having watched him play for Benfica, I can guarantee you his shot against City definitely wasn't a fluke.

What a scandalous player. Has just arrived and already established himself as an irreplaceable influence in our midfield. Not to mention he's only 25 years old and he hasn't even fully adapted yet. He will keep getting better and better!

Mourinho put on 3 attacking players who are fighting for their place in the team. Predictably, they're all being selfish... ^^

Yes. I'm watching the game with no sound

There goes our clean sheet.

He's fast.... Should have passed though.

How about Salah? Come on!
-
He's being honest, but not because he doesn't think Chelsea has a chance this season, in my opinion. I think he's assuming that position in self-defense. Let's not forget Chelsea is a sacking club with very little tolerance for failure. If Mourinho claims we're in for the title race this season (knowing it will be very difficult) and in the end we fail, then the pressure will be on. The media will be all over it too. Can you imagine the summer headlines? "Is Mourinho getting sacked after falling short in the title race?" or "Will Abramovich give Mourinho another chance after a season without silverware?" . To prevent this, he chooses to warn everyone beforehand, including the Chelsea board, that Chelsea is not yet ready and it's very likely we won't win anything at the end of this season. But I'm sure he knows we have a chance.
-
Hopefully we'll get to see Salah in action.

You must be new to the internet

I'm going to pretend I didn't see Hazard making fun of their defense the whole game and vote Matic MOTM.
