When Torres is on form, this is him. A soloist at the best of times. He will come good, he's a natural finisher and a player with plenty of skill and determination. Give him a break..

To be honest, i don't see him becoming that Torres anymore. He's lost too much strength/balance, agility and pace, Those things, together with his phenomenal finishing and movement, were his main strengths. He still has some pace but nowhere near as impressive as before but his great agility and balance is gone.

I just hope that with confidence his finishing abilities of two years back will return (or at least something close to it). And his great movement and positioning will hopefully return when he's full of confidence too.

Disagree highly. He's 26 and is suffering from lack of confidence. If Carlo can sort Torres out psychologically we'll see him recapture that deadly form we paid £50million for. He showed that in his last days at Liverpool under Dalglish Clarke. Once we get the service to him right, he'll start to shine. It just takes one goal to start a wave.

Confidence doesn't bring back your physical attributes.. (and i'm not basing it on what he's shown at Chelsea, at Liverpool it was already obvious he lost those things I mentioned)

I'm not saying he won't be a great striker for us but i don't think he'll be that Torres again. That Torres was probably the best striker around.

Well you speak of a loss of pace, but I think there is a psychological barrier there. We're not giving him much to chase really, when we do, he does go for them. Look at how he chased Luiz's ball last night, sure his touches were poor, but his determination to win that ball was evident.

I doubt it. Ronaldo also lost pace because of injuries and he never became as fast and agile as he was in his Inter/Barca/PSV days again. He was like 24 back then.

Instead he became the best finisher around in his Real Madrid days (and things like his positional sense and anticipation became legendary).

I agree with you in principle though I think the physical decline isn't quite so clear. He's still quite pacey when he needs to motor it. I think the stop and start acceleration is what he's missing the most. Like all athletes, he'll need to adjust his game as he gets older. I'm sure he's smart enough to do it, the issue would be if his ego will recognize the need to change.

I agree that he's still a pacey, said it in my first post, but just nowhere near as fast. His acceleration was incredible back in 08.

About the part I put in bold, yeah that's what I can only hope will happen.

It's interesting to read the comments on this forum compared to LFC forums. Even before Torres was leaving, many posters there were complaining about him and how crap he was. Seeming to forget he was the quickest LFC player to 50 goals. Great to see the Chelsea fans aren't looking to throw him under the bus and understand it takes time.

I hope he scores soon and then often to repay the Chelsea fans who seem to have welcomed him with open arms. $50M is a jaw-dropping number (CRAZY!) but the market is what the buyer is willing to spend. He's not a technical maestro but when he's on he's fun to watch and you're glad he plays for you.

I haven't read much from LFC forums today but funny enough, they're saying that Chelsea fans have turned on him already. I'm not in England so I'm not getting the radio shows and papers, but from I've read here and a couple of other CFC boards, most have been quite level-headed about Torres.

Wait a minute...is a player who suffer from lack of confidence worth 50m ?? The confidence is also a atribute who makes a great footballer. If he has a confidence problem its his fault.

I've followed Torres since he was Atleti. Followed him at Liverpool and follow him at Spain. Now following him at Chelsea. Read the LFC forums a lot but never posted. Maybe because there are quite a lot of loons out there posing as fans. Also because they're not the most welcoming bunch especially if you don't follow the LFC mantra to the T. What I like about the Chelsea forums, the supporters seem to be reasonable even when disagreeing. I'm all for dialogue, debate, and even the occasional "you're a moron!" but the f-bombs and cursing at each other make those forums too hard to read.

I've stopped reading the LFC forums and deleted them as favorites because the nastiness there just isn't worth my time.

I've mentioned it somewhere but I don't think it's a confidence issue. I think he's the new guy trying to fit in with new teammates, new manager. He didn't do much against LFC. Yesterday, much better and it'll come.

Haha come on, that's a bit unfair. All players go through that "lack of confidence" phase, all the best players of past have. Great thing about confidence is, it can come back in an instant.

External environment effects an individuals confidence.

He's been at a club that haven't been competing for trophys.

No we're not like them scouse idiots. A player scores a goal and he's a legend,if he wants to better himself then they burn his shirt.

I remember when Kuyt first joined them, there was a banner in the crowd calling him a dutch legend !!!!

We don't big ourselves or our players up like them fickle scouse morons do.

Scouse bastards talk shit. Don't listen to them. The media and scousers are desperately hoping he'll be a failure that's all. No sane Chelsea fan has turned on him.

Proof last night was Sky sports news, here in England.

It's top story was " Torres fails to score and Luiz gives away a penalty"

I thought it was disgusting but laughed at the same time. The usual headline would be Chelsea held to a 0-0,but no they have to mention Torres not scoring which is the first headline i've ever seen like that.
