Chelsea sporting director Frank Arnesen has signed a three-year contract to take up a similar position at Bundeliga side Hamburg in the summer.

The 54-year-old Dane, who previously held a comparable role at Tottenham, announced last November that he would leave Chelsea at the end of the season.

"I am convinced that with the strength we have and the right decisions we can develop something big," said Arsensen.

Chelsea's chief scout Lee Congerton will also make the move to Germany.

Well we ll knew this was imminent but I suspect Hamburg isn't a bad team to sign for.

All those rumors to Real Madrid and Man City were no doubt created by Arnesen himself to make those teams aware he was available. Nobody but Hamburg, a midtable German team, wanted him which says it all.

This guy has played a big role in creating the mess that we find ourselves in.

Gillhaus (end of contract), Arnesen, Congerton (HSV), Hillion (Nantes), wouldn't be surprised if others were on their way too.

Also talk that Hoffenheim boss Marco Pezzaiuoli could want Michael Piwowarski, who does some scouting in Germany for #CFC, to join him.

he said he wanted a challenge..moving to Madrid or Manchester..he might aswell have stayed with us.

just because he chose to go to Hamburg does not mean that only them wanted him.

Interesting theory but you can't overlook the fact that he would never gotten the control he'll have at Hamburn with either Real Madrid or City.

All of his players are under 20 years old.

Doesn't take much scouting ability to spot the most highly rated youngsters and barge in with Roman's money. Anyways we'll see how many of 'his' players become useful to the Chelsea senior squad, I doubt it will be more than 1 or 2. And let's keep in mind that McEachran, by far and away the best young player at the club, was already here before Arnesen arrived. -_-

To his credit, besides international and regional scouting he's been also responsible for the reforming of our academy. You can't take away from that.

Well duh. It's to be expected considering he was starting from scratch and working for a club with unlimited resources.

With the amount of money he has spent and his various promotions he should have something more tangible to show than 'reforming an academy' that pretty much never existed before he came!

Bringing it to (reportedly) the level of established top English (or even European) academies is admirable no matter the resources he had.

I'm not exactly sober atm so you'll have to excuse any glaring grammatical, syntactic or logical mistakes :D

But you forget where he came from and which player he scoutet in PSV Eindhoven. Let`s name a few: Robben, Ronaldo, Stam , Van Nistelroy. Its way to soon to judge him and the academy, in fact

i`m sure the future will prove you`re wrong.

Dunno about the others but scouting Ronaldo was no feat. He was probably as famous as Neymar is now when he signed for PSV.
